✧ While I was shooting arrows, the sun eclipsed. I threw them away and went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I reached him while he was standing, raising his hands, glorifying Allah, saying 'Allah is greater,' praising his Lord, and supplicating until the eclipse cleared. He recited two surahs in two rak'ahs.

✧ "The sun set during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and prolonged his standing until it was said he would not prostrate. Then he prostrated and prolonged his prostration until it was said he would not raise his head. Then he raised his head and prolonged his standing until it was said he would not bow. Then he bowed and prolonged his bow until it was said he would not raise his head. Then he raised his head and prolonged his standing until it was said he would not prostrate." And the rest of the narration mentions the Hadith of Al-Thawri narrated by Ya'la bin 'Ata', which is a strange, authentic Hadith. "So the two sheikhs have provided evidence with Mu'ammal ibn Isma'il, but they did not exclude it. As for 'Ata' bin Al-Sa'ib, they did not exclude it."

✧ Samurah said: One day while I and a boy from the Ansar were shooting at a target of ours during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was about two or three spear-lengths above the horizon in the eye of the beholder, it darkened until it became like a colocynth. One of us said to his companion: Let us go to the mosque, for by Allah, the affair of this sun will certainly bring about something new for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his community. We rushed to the mosque and found him coming out. We met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as he came out to the people. He came forward and led us in prayer with the longest standing he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he bowed with the longest bowing he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he prostrated with the longest prostration he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he did the same in the second rak'ah. The clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rak'ah. Then he said the salam, praised Allah, extolled Him, bore witness that there is no god but Allah, and bore witness that he is His servant and Messenger. Then he said: 'O people, I am only a human being and the Messenger of Allah. I remind you of Allah: if you know that I have fallen short in conveying any of the messages of my Lord, then tell me so that I may convey the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if you know that I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then tell me.' The people stood up and said: We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, advised your community, and fulfilled what was upon you. Then they fell silent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'To proceed: Some men claim that the eclipse of this sun, the eclipse of this moon, and the disappearance of these stars from their rising places are due to the death of great men among the people of the earth. They have lied. Rather, they are signs among the signs of Allah by which He tests His servants, to see who among them will turn in repentance. By Allah, since I stood to pray, I have seen what you will encounter in your worldly life and your hereafter. By Allah, the Hour will not come until thirty liars appear, the last of whom is the one-eyed Dajjal, whose left eye is effaced, as if it were the eye of Abu Yahya, an old man from the Ansar. When he appears, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, accepts him, and follows him, no righteous deed he did before will benefit him. Whoever disbelieves in him and rejects him will not be punished for anything he did before. He will dominate the entire earth except the Haram and Jerusalem. He will besiege the believers in Jerusalem, and they will be shaken with a severe earthquake. Then Jesus, son of Mary, will appear among them, and Allah will defeat him and his armies, until the base of a wall and the root of a tree will call out to the believer: "Here is a disbeliever hiding behind me, come and kill him."' He said: 'That will not happen until you see matters whose importance grows in your minds, and you ask among yourselves whether your Prophet ﷺ mentioned any of them to you, and until mountains move from their foundations. Then, in the wake of that, the taking of souls'—and he gestured with his hand. Then he witnessed another sermon and mentioned this hadith, neither advancing nor delaying it.

✧ The sun eclipsed on the day Ibrahīm, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. People thought it eclipsed because of his death. The Prophet ﷺ stood and said: 'O people, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. If you see that, then hasten to prayer, to the remembrance of Allah, supplicate, and give charity.'

Allah brings about in His creation whatever He wills. When Allah, Blessed and Exalted, manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it submits to Him. Whichever of them eclipses, pray until it clears or Allah brings about a matter.'

✧ The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for a very long time leading the people, then bowed, then stood, then bowed, then stood, then bowed. He performed two rak'ahs, in each rak'ah three bowings. He bowed the third, then prostrated. Men fainted that day from how long he stood with them, and buckets of water were poured on them. When he bowed he said 'Allah is greater,' and when he rose he said 'Allah hears the one who praises Him,' until the sun cleared. Then he said: 'The sun and the moon do not eclipse for anyone's death or life, but they are two signs among the signs of Allah by which Allah frightens His servants.
