✧ Samurah said: One day while I and a boy from the Ansar were shooting at a target of ours during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was about two or three spear-lengths above the horizon in the eye of the beholder, it darkened until it became like a colocynth. One of us said to his companion: Let us go to the mosque, for by Allah, the affair of this sun will certainly bring about something new for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his community. We rushed to the mosque and found him coming out. We met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as he came out to the people. He came forward and led us in prayer with the longest standing he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he bowed with the longest bowing he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he prostrated with the longest prostration he ever did in any prayer, and we did not hear his voice. Then he did the same in the second rak'ah. The clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rak'ah. Then he said the salam, praised Allah, extolled Him, bore witness that there is no god but Allah, and bore witness that he is His servant and Messenger. Then he said: 'O people, I am only a human being and the Messenger of Allah. I remind you of Allah: if you know that I have fallen short in conveying any of the messages of my Lord, then tell me so that I may convey the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if you know that I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then tell me.' The people stood up and said: We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, advised your community, and fulfilled what was upon you. Then they fell silent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'To proceed: Some men claim that the eclipse of this sun, the eclipse of this moon, and the disappearance of these stars from their rising places are due to the death of great men among the people of the earth. They have lied. Rather, they are signs among the signs of Allah by which He tests His servants, to see who among them will turn in repentance. By Allah, since I stood to pray, I have seen what you will encounter in your worldly life and your hereafter. By Allah, the Hour will not come until thirty liars appear, the last of whom is the one-eyed Dajjal, whose left eye is effaced, as if it were the eye of Abu Yahya, an old man from the Ansar. When he appears, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, accepts him, and follows him, no righteous deed he did before will benefit him. Whoever disbelieves in him and rejects him will not be punished for anything he did before. He will dominate the entire earth except the Haram and Jerusalem. He will besiege the believers in Jerusalem, and they will be shaken with a severe earthquake. Then Jesus, son of Mary, will appear among them, and Allah will defeat him and his armies, until the base of a wall and the root of a tree will call out to the believer: "Here is a disbeliever hiding behind me, come and kill him."' He said: 'That will not happen until you see matters whose importance grows in your minds, and you ask among yourselves whether your Prophet ﷺ mentioned any of them to you, and until mountains move from their foundations. Then, in the wake of that, the taking of souls'—and he gestured with his hand. Then he witnessed another sermon and mentioned this hadith, neither advancing nor delaying it.
