✧ We said: "O Messenger of Allah, how were you taken on the night journey?" He said: "I prayed the 'Isha' prayer for my companions in Makkah after darkness had set in. Then Jibril came to me with a white animal, larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. He said: 'Mount.' It became difficult for me, so he turned it by its ear until it carried me. It set off flying with us, placing its hooves wherever its gaze reached. We reached a land with palm trees. He said: 'Dismount.' So I dismounted. Then he said: 'Pray.' So I prayed. Then we mounted, and he asked me: 'Do you know where you prayed?' I said: 'Allah knows best.' He said: 'You prayed in Yathrib; you prayed in Taybah.' Then it set off flying, placing its hooves wherever its gaze reached, until we reached a white land. He said: 'Dismount.' So I dismounted. Then he said: 'Pray.' So I prayed. Then we mounted, and he asked: 'Do you know where you prayed?' I said: 'Allah knows best.' He said: 'You prayed in Madyan; you prayed at the tree of Musa.' Then it set off, placing its hooves—or its hoof would fall—wherever its gaze reached. Then we ascended, and he said: 'Dismount.' So I dismounted. He said: 'Pray.' So I prayed. Then we mounted, and he asked: 'Do you know where you prayed?' I said: 'Allah knows best.' He said: 'You prayed in Bayt Lahm, where the Messiah 'Isa b. Maryam was born.' Then he took me until we entered the city from its eighth gate. He came to the qiblah of the mosque and tied his mount. We entered the mosque through a gate where the sun and the moon incline. I prayed in the mosque as much as Allah willed." This is how Ibn Zabraq said it. "Then two vessels were brought to me, one containing milk and the other honey; both were sent to me. I considered them both, then Allah guided me to it. I took the milk and drank until it touched my forehead. In front of me was an old man reclining. He said: 'Your companion has taken the fitrah,' or he said: 'with the fitrah.' Then he took me until we came to the valley which is in the city, and behold, Hell was uncovered, resembling a kind of carpet." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, how did you find it?" He said: "Like..." and he mentioned something that slipped my mind. "Then we passed by a caravan of Quraysh at such-and-such a place; they had lost a camel of theirs. I greeted them, and some of them said: 'This is the voice of Muhammad.' Then I came to my companions before dawn in Makkah. Abu Bakr came to me and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, where were you tonight? I looked for you in your place.' He said: 'I went to Bayt al-Maqdis tonight.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it is a month's journey; describe it to me.' So it was opened for me as clearly as if I were looking at it. They did not ask me about anything except that I informed them about it. Abu Bakr said: 'I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.' The polytheists said: 'Look at the son of Abu Kabshah; he claims that he went to Bayt al-Maqdis tonight.' He said: 'Yes, and I passed by a caravan of yours at such-and-such a place; they had lost a camel of theirs at such-and-such a place. I am directing them for you; they will encamp at such-and-such, then they will come to you on such-and-such a day, led by a brown camel, with a black saddlecloth and two black sacks.' When that day came, the people went out to look, until close to midday, when the caravan approached, led by that camel exactly as the Messenger of Allah had described.

✧ Indeed, the best of your days is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he passed away, and on it the trumpet will be blown. So send abundant blessings upon me on that day, for your blessings are presented to me. It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, how are they presented to you when you have decayed?"—they meant, "when you have turned to dust." He said: "Indeed, Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the prophets."

✧ There will be rulers after me who kill the prayer by delaying it from its proper times. So pray the prayer at its proper time, and make your prayer with them a supererogatory prayer. When al-Hajjaj delayed the prayer from its times, I used to pray the prayer at its proper time and make my prayer with them a supererogatory prayer.

✧ Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, gathered the earth for me until I saw its easts and its wests. The dominion of my nation will reach what was gathered for me of it. My Lord gave me the two treasures: the red and the white. I asked my Lord not to destroy them with a widespread drought, not to set an enemy over them to annihilate them all, not to divide them into sects, and not to make some of them taste the violence of others. He said: "O Muhammad, when I decree a matter, it cannot be repelled. I have granted you for your nation that I will not destroy them with a widespread drought, nor set an enemy over them to annihilate them all, until some of them kill others and some of them take others captive." The Prophet ﷺ said: "I do not fear for my nation except the misleading rulers. When the sword is placed in my nation, it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection."

✧ The master of seeking forgiveness, when one of you finishes his prayer, is to say: O Allah, You created me and I am Your servant; I am upon Your covenant and Your promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.

    " الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللهِ

✧ The shrewd one is he who calls himself to account and acts for what comes after death; and the helpless one is he who lets his soul follow its desires and yet hopes in Allah.
