أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ كَانَا مُتَوَاخِيَيْنِ فَاسْتُشْهِدَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَبَقِيَ الثَّانِي بَعْدَ الْمُسْتَشْهَدِ سَنَةً، قَالَ طَلْحَةُ: فَرَأَيْتُ الْآخِرَ مِنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ قَبْلَ الْمُسْتَشْهَدِ فَحَدَّثْتُ النَّاسَ بِذَلِكَ فَبَلَغَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَلَيْسَ هُوَ صَامَ بَعْدَهُ رَمَضَانَ وَصَلَّى بَعْدَهُ سِتَّةَ آلَافِ رَكْعَةٍ وَمِائَةَ رَكْعَةٍ يَعْنِي صَلَاةَ السَّنَةِ
✧ Two men were brothers. One of them was martyred, and the second remained alive for a year after the martyr. Talhah said: I saw the latter of the two men enter Paradise before the martyr. I told the people about that, and it reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, who said: 'Did he not fast Ramadan after him and pray six thousand one hundred rak'ahs after him, meaning the prayer of the year?'

سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، يَقُولُ لِطَلْحَةَ رَحِمَهُمَا اللهُ: مَا لِي أَرَاكَ كَئِيبًا مُنْذُ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، لَعَلَّكَ إِنَّمَا بِكَ إِمْرَةُ ابْنِ عَمِّكَ قَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ وَإِنِّي لَأَجْدَرُكُمْ أَنْ لَا أَفْعَلَ، قَالَ: فَمَا لَكَ ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ كَلِمَةً لَا يَقُولُهَا رَجُلٌ بِحَضْرَةِ الْمَوْتِ، إِلَّا وَجَدَ لَهَا رَوْحًا حِينَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: أَنَا أَعْلَمُهَا، قَالَ: وَمَا هِيَ ؟ قَالَ: الْكَلِمَةُ الَّتِي قَالَهَا يَعْنِي لِعَمِّهِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ
✧ I heard 'Umar b. al-Khattab say to Talhah, may God have mercy on them both: 'Why do I see you gloomy since the Messenger of God ﷺ died? Perhaps it is because of the leadership of your cousin.' He said: 'No, by God, and I am the most deserving of you not to do that.' He said: 'Then what is the matter with you?' He said: 'I heard him ﷺ say: I know a word that no man says at the time of death but that he finds relief for it when his soul leaves his body.' 'Umar said: 'I know it.' He said: 'What is it?' He said: 'The word he said to his uncle: There is no god but God.'

كُنَّا مَعَ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ وَنَحْنُ حُرُمٌ فَأُهْدِيَ لَهُ طَيْرٌ، وَطَلْحَةُ رَاقِدٌ فَمِنَّا مَنْ أَكَلَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ تَوَرَّعَ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا انْتَبَهَ طَلْحَةُ أُخْبِرَ فَوَفَّقَ مَنْ أَكَلَهُ وَقَالَ: أَكَلْنَاهُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ
✧ We were with Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah while we were in a state of ihram, and a bird was gifted to him. Talhah was asleep, so some of us ate and some of us refrained. He said: When Talhah woke up, he was informed, and he agreed with those who ate it and said: 'We ate it with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَاللهِ مَا نَدْرِي هَذَا الْيَمَانِيَّ أَعْلَمُ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْكُمْ أَوْ هُوَ يَقُولُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ؟ يَعْنِي أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ: وَاللهِ مَا نَشُكُّ أَنَّهُ قَدْ سَمِعَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا لَمْ نَسْمَعْ وَعَلِمَ مَا لَمْ نَعْلَمْ، إِنَّا كُنَّا أَقْوَامًا أَغْنِيَاءَ وَلَنَا بُيُوتَاتٌ وَأَهْلُونَ، وَكُنَّا نَأْتِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ، وَكَانَ مِسْكِينًا لَا مَالَ لَهُ وَلَا أَهْلَ، إِنَّمَا كَانَتْ يَدُهُ مَعَ يَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ يَدُورُ مَعَهُ حَيْثُمَا دَارَ، وَلَا نَشُكُّ أَنَّهُ قَدْ عَلِمَ مَا لَمْ نَعْلَمْ وَسَمِعَ مَا لَمْ نَسْمَعْ، وَلَمْ نَجِدْ أَحَدًا فِيهِ خَيْرٌ يَقُولُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ.
✧ I was with Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah when a man entered and said: 'O Abu Muhammad, by Allah, we do not know whether this Yamani is more knowledgeable about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than you, or whether he says about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what he did not say?' He meant Abu Hurayrah. Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah said: 'By Allah, we do not doubt that he heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what we did not hear and knew what we did not know. We were wealthy people with houses and families, and we used to come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the two ends of the day. He was poor, with no wealth and no family; his hand was always with the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he used to go around with him wherever he went. We do not doubt that he knew what we did not know and heard what we did not hear, and we do not find anyone in whom there is good saying about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what he did not say.'

جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ بَدَوِيٌّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعْنَا لَهُ هَمْهَمَةً وَلَا نَدْرِي مَا يَقُولُ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ: " خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ " قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُنَّ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا " وَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ، فَقَالَ: " شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ " قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا " وَذَكَرَ الزَّكَاةَ فَقَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهَا ؟ قَالَ: " لَا " قَالَ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَلَا أَنْقُصُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَفْلَحَ إِنْ صَدَقَ
✧ A Bedouin Arab came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we heard a murmuring from him but did not know what he was saying. He asked him about Islam, and he said: 'Five prayers in the day and night.' He asked: 'Is there anything else due upon me?' He said: 'No.' He asked him about fasting, and he said: 'The month of Ramadan.' He asked: 'Is there anything else due upon me?' He said: 'No.' Then he mentioned zakah, and he said: 'Is there anything else due upon me?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I will not add to these nor diminish from them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'He will succeed if he is truthful.'

أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ، مَرَّ بِطَلْحَةَ، حِينَ اسْتُخْلِفَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ، فَقَالَ: أَرَاكَ كَئِيبًا لَعَلَّكَ كَرِهْتَ إِمْرَةَ ابْنِ عَمِّكَ قَالَ: لَا وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كَلِمَةً لَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ عَنْهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ قَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ كَلِمَةً لَا يَقُولُهَا عَبْدٌ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ إِلَّا كَانَتْ نُورًا فِي صَحِيفَتِهِ وَإِنَّ رُوحَهُ وَجَسَدَهُ لَيَجِدَانِ لَهَا رَاحَةً عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُهَا هِيَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، هِيَ الْكَلِمَةُ الَّتِي أَرَادَ عَمَّهُ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ: لَا أُرَاهَا إِلَّا إِيَّاهَا
✧ That 'Umar b. al-Khattab, may Allah have mercy on him, passed by Talhah when Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, was appointed caliph, and said: 'I see you sad; perhaps you dislike the leadership of your cousin.' He said: 'No, but I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say a word which I did not ask him about until he passed away. He said: "I know a word that no servant says at the time of his death except that it becomes light in his record, and his soul and body find rest for it at death."' 'Umar said: 'I know it; it is la ilaha illa Allah, the word for which he wanted his uncle.' He said: 'I do not think it is anything other than it.'

✧ I accompanied Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah and Sa'd, and I did not hear either of them narrating from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, except Talhah, for I heard him narrating about the Day of Uhud.

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the road to Makkah: 'The best women who have ridden camels are the women of Quraysh, the most tender to a child and the most attentive to a husband.'

مَرَرْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَخْلٍ فَرَأَى قَوْمًا فِي رُءُوسِ النَّخْلِ يُلَقِّحُونَ فَقَالَ: مَا تَصْنَعُونَ أَوْ مَا يَصْنَعُ هَؤُلَاءِ ؟ قَالَ: يَأْخُذُونَ مِنَ الذَّكَرِ وَيَجْعَلُونَ فِي الْأُنْثَى فَقَالَ: مَا أَظُنُّ هَذَا يُغْنِي شَيْئًا فَبَلَغَهُمْ ذَلِكَ فَتَرَكُوهُ فَصَارَ شِيصًا، فَقَالَ: أَنْتُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُصْلِحُكُمْ فِي دُنْيَاكُمْ، وَإِنِّي قُلْتُ لَكُمْ ظَنًّا ظَنَنْتُهُ، فَمَا قُلْتُ لَكُمْ قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلَنْ أَكْذِبَ عَلَى اللهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى
✧ I passed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ through some palm trees, and he saw people on the tops of the palms pollinating them. He said: 'What are you doing, or what are these people doing?' They said: 'They take from the male and put into the female.' He said: 'I do not think this helps at all.' That reached them, so they abandoned it, and the palms became unproductive. He said: 'You know better what is beneficial for your worldly affairs. I only said what I thought was an opinion. What I said to you, if Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has said it, then I would never lie about Allah, Blessed and Exalted.'

أَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ جُمَيْعٍ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ إِسْرَائِيلُ، وَأَسْبَاطُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ يُرْوَى عَنْ طَلْحَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ. وَرَوَاهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْهُمْ: أَنَسٌ، وَعَائِشَةُ، وَرَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ، وَجَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، وَيَسِيرُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو
✧ This is narrated by Hafs b. Jami', from Simak b. Harb, from Musa b. Talhah, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. This hadith has been narrated from Simak by Isra'il, Asbat b. Nasr, and more than one. We do not know of it being narrated from Talhah except through this chain. A group narrated it from the Prophet ﷺ, including Anas, 'A'ishah, Rafi' b. Khadij, Jabir b. 'Abd Allah, and Yasir b. 'Amr.

He said: 'Say: O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim, and bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.'

أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالُوا لِأَعْرَابِيٍّ: سَلْهُ عَنْ مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ مَنْ هُوَ، وَهَؤُلَاءِ لَا يَجْتَرِئُونَ عَلَى مَسْأَلَتِهِ، فَسَأَلَهُ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ فَقَالَ: مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ ؟ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ مِنْ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ قَالَ: أَنَا ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: هَذَا مِمَّنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ
✧ The companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ said to a Bedouin: "Ask him about the one who has fulfilled his vow—who is he?" But these [companions] did not dare ask him themselves. The Bedouin asked him: "Who has fulfilled his vow?" He turned away from him. Then he asked again, and he turned away from him. Then he went out of the mosque gate, and I was with him. He said: "Where is the one asking about who has fulfilled his vow?" He said: "Here I am, O Messenger of God." He said: "This one is among those who have fulfilled their vows."

تَمَشَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَعَنَا بِمَكَّةَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَأَجْهَدَهُ الصَّوْمُ فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ نَاقَةً لَنَا فِي قَعْبٍ وَصَبَبْنَا عَلَيْهِ عَسَلًا نُكْرِمُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ فِطْرِهِ، فَلَمَّا غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ نَاوَلْنَاهُ الْقَعْبَ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَهُ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ كَأَنَّهُ يَقُولُ: مَا هَذَا ؟ قُلْنَا: لَبَنًا وَعَسَلًا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُكْرِمَكَ بِهِ، أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ: أَكْرَمَكَ اللهُ بِمَا أَكْرَمْتَنِي، أَوْ دَعْوَةً هَذَا مَعْنَاهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ أَغْنَاهُ اللهُ، وَمَنْ بَذَّرَ أَفْقَرَهُ اللهُ، وَمَنْ تَوَاضَعَ رَفَعَهُ اللهُ، وَمَنْ تَجَبَّرَ قَصَمَهُ اللهُ
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ walked with us in Makkah while he was fasting, and the fast exhausted him. We milked a she-camel of ours into a wooden bowl and poured honey over it to honor the Messenger of God ﷺ at his breaking of the fast. When the sun set, we handed him the bowl. When he tasted it, he gestured with his hand as if to say: "What is this?" We said: "Milk and honey; we wanted to honor you with it." I think he said: "May God honor you as you have honored me," or a supplication of this meaning. Then he said: "Whoever is moderate, God enriches him; whoever is extravagant, God impoverishes him; whoever is humble, God raises him; and whoever is arrogant, God breaks him."

✧ He forbade branding on the face. He said: A camel that had been branded on its face was brought past the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: "Would that fire were kept away from the face of this animal." So I said: "I will certainly brand in the farthest place," and I branded on the tailbone.

✧ I entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ and in his hand was a quince. He said: "Take it, Abu Muhammad, for it strengthens the heart."

أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ، كَانَا مُتَوَاخِيَيْنِ فَمَاتَ الَّذِي هُوَ أَفْضَلُ فِي نَفْسِ طَلْحَةَ، وَبَقِيَ الْآخَرُ بَعْدَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَصَامَ رَمَضَانَ، وَصَلَّى كَذَا وَكَذَا ثُمَّ مَاتَ فَرَأَى طَلْحَةُ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنَّ الْآخِرَ مَوْتًا أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِ وَأَرْفَعُ دَرَجَةً قَالَ طَلْحَةُ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَلَيْسَ قَدْ بَقِيَ بَعْدَهُ حَتَّى عَاشَ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَصَامَ كَذَا ؟ قُلْتُ: بَلَى، قَالَ فَبَيْنَهُمَا أَبْعَدُ عَمَّا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ
✧ Two men were sworn brothers. The one who was more virtuous in Talha's estimation died, and the other remained after him for such and such a time. He fasted Ramadan and prayed such and such, then he died. Talha saw in a dream that the one who died later was superior to the first and higher in rank. Talha said: I mentioned that to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: "Did he not remain after him, living such and such, and fasting such and such?" I said: "Yes." He said: "The distance between them is greater than that between heaven and earth."

كَانَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَوْلَ الْكَعْبَةِ فِيهِمْ أَبُو جَهْلٍ لَعَنَهُ اللهُ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ: قَبُحَتِ الْوُجُوهُ فَخَرَسُوا فَمَا أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ تَكَلَّمَ بِكَلِمَةٍ، وَلَقَدْ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَهْلٍ، وَهُوَ يَعْتَذِرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَمْسِكْ عَنَّا وَيَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا أَمْسِكُ عَنْكُمْ أَوْ أَقْتُلُكُمْ، فَقَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ: أَنْتَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اللهُ يَقْتُلُكُمْ
✧ A group of polytheists were around the Kaaba, among them Abu Jahl—may God curse him. The Messenger of God ﷺ approached and stood before them and said: "Ugly are the faces!" They fell silent, and not one of them uttered a word. I looked at Abu Jahl as he apologized to the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying: "Hold back from us." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "I will not hold back from you until I kill you." Abu Jahl said: "Can you do that?" The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "God will kill you."

شَهِدْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ يَوْمَ حُوصِرَ وَالنَّاسُ فِي مَوْضِعِ الْجَنَائِزِ، فَلَوْ أَنَّ حَصَاةً أُلْقِيَتْ مَا وَقَعَتْ إِلَّا عَلَى رَأْسِ إِنْسَانٍ فَرَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ أَشْرَفَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْخَوْخَةِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْمَقَامَ مَقَامَ جِبْرِيلَ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - فَقَالَ: أَفِيكُمْ طَلْحَةُ ؟ فَسَكَتُوا، فَقَالَ: أَفِيكُمْ طَلْحَةُ ؟ فَسَكَتُوا، فَقَالَ: أَفِيكُمْ طَلْحَةُ ؟ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: مَا كُنْتُ أَظُنُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ يَسْمَعُ نِدَائِي آخِرَ ثَلَاثِ مَرَّاتٍ، فَلَا يُجِيبُنِي نَشَدْتُكَ اللهَ يَا طَلْحَةُ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ بِمَكَانِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَأَنَا وَأَنْتَ لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرِي وَغَيْرُكَ، فَقَالَ: يَا طَلْحَةُ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ رَفِيقًا مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَإِنَّ عُثْمَانَ هَذَا رَفِيقِي فِي الْجَنَّةِ ؟ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ وَانْصَرَفَ
✧ I witnessed 'Uthman b. 'Affan on the day he was besieged while the people were in the place of funerals. If a pebble had been thrown, it would not have fallen except on a person's head. I saw 'Uthman look out at them from the small door that faces the station—the station of Gabriel ﷺ —and he said: "Is Talha among you?" They remained silent. He said: "Is Talha among you?" They remained silent. He said: "Is Talha among you?" Then 'Uthman said: "I did not think that in a gathering that hears my call three times, no one would answer me. I adjure you by God, O Talha: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ was at such and such a place, with no one with him except me and you, and he said: 'O Talha, every prophet has a companion from his community in Paradise, and this 'Uthman is my companion in Paradise'?" He said: "O God, yes," and turned away.

أَنَّ ثَلَاثَةَ نَفَرٍ مِنَ الْعُذْرِيِّينَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى بَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ عِنْدَهُمْ شَيْءٌ يَكْفِيهِمْ فَقَالَ: مَنْ يَكْفِيهِمْ ؟ فَقَالَ طَلْحَةُ: أَنَا أَكْفِيكَهُمْ فَكَفَيْتُهُمْ، قَالَ طَلْحَةُ: فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَرِيَّةً فَخَرَجَ أَحَدُهُمْ فَقُتِلَ ثُمَّ بَعَثَ سَرِيَّةً أُخْرَى فَخَرَجَ الثَّانِي فَقُتِلَ ثُمَّ مَرِضَ الثَّالِثُ فَضَنِيَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَمَاتَ، فَرَآهُمْ طَلْحَةُ فِيمَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ كَانَ أَوَّلُهُمْ دُخُولًا الْجَنَّةَ الَّذِي مَاتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ، ثُمَّ الثَّانِي، ثُمَّ الثَّالِثُ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى أَوْ قَالَ: بِصَلَاتِهِ وَصَوْمِهِ وَتَسْبِيحِهِ وَكَذَا وَكَذَا
✧ Three men from the 'Udhri tribe came to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He sent to some of his wives, but they had nothing to suffice them. He said: "Who will take care of them?" Talha said: "I will take care of them for you." So I took care of them. Talha said: Then the Messenger of God ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and one of them went out and was killed. Then he sent another expedition, and the second went out and was killed. Then the third fell ill and wasted away on his bed and died. Talha saw them in a dream: the first of them to enter Paradise was the one who died on his bed, then the second, then the third. He mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "Did you not know that he prayed—or he said: with his prayer, fasting, glorification of God, and such and such?"

صَحِبْتُ طَلْحَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، فَمَا سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِشَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى قُبُورِ الشُّهَدَاءِ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلْنَا مِنْ حُرَّةِ وَاقِمٍ رَأَيْنَا قُبُورًا بِمَحْنِيَّةِ الْجَبَلِ فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَؤُلَاءِ إِخْوَانُنَا، قَالَ: هَؤُلَاءِ أَصْحَابُنَا. ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا حَتَّى جِئْنَا قُبُورَ الشُّهَدَاءِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " هَذِهِ قُبُورُ إِخْوَانِنَا وَدَعَا لَهُمْ
✧ I accompanied Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah, and I never heard him narrate anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except that he said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to the graves of the martyrs. When we descended from the Harrah of Waqim, we saw graves at the foot of the mountain, and we said: O Messenger of Allah, are these our brothers? He said: These are our companions. Then we went out until we came to the graves of the martyrs, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "These are the graves of our brothers," and he supplicated for them.

قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ بِحَلُوبَةٍ لِي فَلَقِيتُ طَلْحَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ يَبِيعَ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ لَبِعْتُ لَكَ، وَلَكِنْ سَاوِمْ وَاسْتَشِرْنِي أَشِرْ عَلَيْكَ
✧ I came to Madinah with a milch camel of mine and met Talhah b. 'Ubayd Allah. I mentioned that to him, and he said: Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade a townsman to sell on behalf of a Bedouin, I would have sold it for you. But bargain and consult me, and I will advise you.

نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ طَلْحَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا قَالَ: عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ إِلَّا مُؤَمَّلًا عَنْ حَمَّادٍ، وَغَيْرُ مُؤَمَّلٍ يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ
✧ Hammad b. Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, from Salim al-Makki, from a man, from Talhah, from the Prophet ﷺ, with something similar. And this hadith we do not know of it being narrated from Talhah except from this route, and we do not know anyone who said: from Salim from his father from Talhah except Mu'ammal from Hammad, and other than Mu'ammal narrates it from a man.

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَحِمَهُ اللهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ الْجَمَلِ لِطَلْحَةَ: أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ يَا طَلْحَةُ أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَذَكَرَهُ وَانْصَرَفَ
✧ I heard 'Ali, may Allah have mercy on him, say on the day of the Camel to Talhah: I adjure you by Allah, O Talhah, did you not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him and be an enemy to whoever is hostile to him? He said: Yes. He said: Then he mentioned it and turned away.

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عُثْمَانَ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ حِينَ حُوصِرَ فَقَالَ: هَاهُنَا طَلْحَةُ ؟ فَقَالَ طَلْحَةُ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: نَعَمْ، فَقَالَ: نَشَدْتُكَ اللهَ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: لِيَأْخُذْ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ بِيَدِ جَلِيسِهِ فَأَخَذْتَ أَنْتَ بِيَدِ فُلَانٍ، وَأَخَذَ فُلَانٌ بِيَدِ فُلَانٍ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِ صَاحِبِهِ، وَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِي، فَقَالَ: هَذَا جَلِيسِي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَوَلِيِّي فِي الْآخِرَةِ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ
✧ I was with 'Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, when he was besieged, and he said: Is Talhah here? Talhah, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you not know that we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: Let each man of you take the hand of his companion. So you took the hand of so-and-so, and so-and-so took the hand of so-and-so, until every man took the hand of his companion, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took my hand and said: This is my companion in this world and my ally in the Hereafter. He said: By Allah, yes.
