Musnad Ahmad 1763Sahih
He said, "O Messenger of Allah, your uncle Abu Talib used to protect and benefit you." He (Prophet Muhammad) said, "Indeed, he is in the lowest depths of Hell. If it were not for me, he would have been in the very bottom of Hell."
Musnad Ahmad 1764Sahih
✧ When a man prostrates, seven parts of his body prostrate with him: his face, his two palms, his two knees, and his two feet.

✧ He came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of God, I am your uncle. My age has advanced and my term has drawn near, so teach me something by which God may benefit me.' He said: 'O Abbas, you are my uncle, and I cannot avail you anything against God, but ask your Lord for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.' He said it three times. Then he came to him at the turn of the year and said the same to him.
Musnad Ahmad 1767Hasan
✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: O Messenger of Allah, I am your paternal uncle; my age has grown old.
Musnad Ahmad 1768Sahih
✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, did you benefit Abu Talib in any way? For he used to protect you and become angry for you. He said: Yes, he is in a shallow part of the Fire, and were it not for that, he would have been in the lowest depths of the Fire.
Musnad Ahmad 1769Sahih

We said: And al-muzn. He said: And al-ʿanān. He said: Then we fell silent. He said: Do you know how much is between the heaven and the earth? He said: We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: Between them is a journey of five hundred years, and from each heaven to the next is a journey of five hundred years, and the thickness of each heaven is five hundred years. Above the seventh heaven there is a sea between its lowest and highest parts like that between the heaven and the earth. Then above that are eight mountain goats, between their knees and hooves like that between the heaven and the earth. Then above that is the Throne, between its lowest and highest parts like that between the heaven and the earth. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted, is above that, and nothing of the deeds of the children of Adam is hidden from Him.

✧ I witnessed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the Battle of Ḥunayn. He said: I saw the Prophet ﷺ with no one but me and Abū Sufyān b. al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib. We stayed close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and did not leave him while he was on a grayish mule—and sometimes Maʿmar said: white—a gift given to him by Farwah b. Naʿāmah al-Judhāmī. When the Muslims and the disbelievers met, the Muslims turned back in retreat, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began spurring his mule toward the disbelievers. Al-ʿAbbās said: I was holding the bridle of the Messenger of Allah's mule, restraining it, while he spared no effort speeding toward the polytheists, and Abū Sufyān b. al-Ḥārith was holding the stirrup of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O ʿAbbās, call out: O companions of the samurah tree. He said: I was a loud-voiced man, so I called out at the top of my voice: Where are the companions of the samurah tree? He said: By Allah, it was as if their turning when they heard my voice was like the turning of cows toward their calves. They said: At your service, at your service, at your service. The Muslims came forward and fought with the disbelievers. The Anṣār called out, saying: O company of the Anṣār. Then the call was restricted to the Banū al-Ḥārith b. al-Khazraj, and they called: O Banū al-Ḥārith b. al-Khazraj. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked on while on his mule, as if leaning forward over it at their fighting, and said: Now the oven has heated up. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took some pebbles and threw them at the faces of the disbelievers, then said: They have been defeated, by the Lord of the Kaʿbah; they have been defeated, by the Lord of the Kaʿbah. He said: I went to look, and the fighting appeared to me as it had been. He said: By Allah, it was only when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw his pebbles at them that I kept seeing their strength weakened and their affair in retreat until Allah defeated them. He said: It is as if I am looking at the Prophet ﷺ spurring on behind them on his mule.

✧ Al-ʿAbbās entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, we go out and see Quraysh talking, but when they see us they fall silent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry, and a vein between his eyes throbbed. Then he said: By Allah, faith will not enter the heart of a man until he loves you for the sake of Allah and for my kinship.

✧ Umar summoned him... and he mentioned the hadith. He said: While I was with him, his doorkeeper Yarfa' came and said, 'Will you see Uthman, Abd al-Rahman, al-Zubayr, and Sa'd? They are asking permission.' He said, 'Yes, admit them.' He waited a little, then came to him and said, 'Will you see Ali and Abbas? They are asking permission.' He said, 'Yes,' and he gave them permission. When they entered, Abbas said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, judge between me and this one'—meaning Ali—and they were disputing about the properties (al-sawafi) that Allah granted His Messenger as booty from the wealth of Banu al-Nadir. The group said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, judge between them and relieve one of them from the other.' Umar said, 'Wait. I adjure you by Allah, by Whose permission the heaven and the earth stand: do you know that the Prophet ﷺ said, "We are not inherited from; what we leave is charity"?'—meaning himself. They said, 'He did say that.' Then Umar turned to Ali and Abbas and said, 'I adjure you both by Allah: do you know that the Prophet ﷺ said that?' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'I will tell you about this matter. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, singled out His Messenger in this fay' with something He gave no one else. He said, "And what Allah restored to His Messenger from them—you did not spur for it any horses or camels"... up to "Allah is over all things competent." This was a special right of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then, by Allah, he did not keep it from you or monopolize it over you; he gave it to you and distributed it among you until this wealth remained. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spend on his family their yearly expenses from this wealth, then take what remained and make it the property of Allah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ acted on that throughout his life. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, and Abu Bakr said, "I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and Abu Bakr took charge of it and acted with it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had acted.

✧ While I was sitting with him, his doorkeeper Yarfa' came to him and said to Umar, 'Will you see Uthman, Abd al-Rahman, Sa'd, and al-Zubayr? They are asking permission.' He said, 'Yes, give them permission.' They entered, greeted, and sat. Then Yarfa' waited a little and said to Umar, 'Will you see Ali and Abbas?' He said, 'Yes,' and he gave them permission. When they entered and sat, Abbas said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, judge between me and Ali.' The group—Uthman and his companions—said, 'Judge between them and relieve one of them from the other.' Umar said, 'Wait. I adjure you by Allah, by Whose permission the heaven and the earth stand: do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We are not inherited from; what we leave is charity"?'—meaning by that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself. The group said, 'He did say that.' Then Umar turned to Ali and Abbas and said, 'I adjure you both by Allah: do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [indeed] said that?' They said, 'He did say that.' Umar said, 'I will tell you about this matter. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, singled out His Messenger in this fay' with something He gave no one else. Allah [Most High] said, "And what Allah restored to His Messenger from them—you did not spur for it any horses or camels"—the verse. This verse was a special right of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I adjure you by Allah: do you know that?' They said, 'Yes.' He said to Ali and Abbas, 'I adjure you both by Allah: do you know that?' They said, 'Yes.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, and Abu Bakr said, "I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Abu Bakr took charge of it and acted with it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had acted with it, while you at that time'—and he turned to Ali and Abbas—'claimed that Abu Bakr in it was such-and-such. By Allah, he was in it truthful, righteous, rightly guided, a follower of the truth.'
Musnad Ahmad 1783Hasan
✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me something I may supplicate with.' He said, 'Ask Allah for pardon and well-being.' Then I came to him another time and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me something I may supplicate with.' He said, 'O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ask Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter.'
Musnad Ahmad 1784Sahih
✧ I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while his wives were with him, and they veiled themselves from me except Maymunah. He said, 'No one in the house who witnessed the ladud (medicine) shall remain unless he is given it—except that my oath did not include al-Abbas.' Then he said, 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' Aishah said to Hafsah, 'Tell him that Abu Bakr is a man who, when he stands in your place, weeps.' He said, 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' Abu Bakr stood and prayed. The Prophet ﷺ felt some relief, came, and Abu Bakr stepped back, intending to withdraw. He sat beside him and then recited.

✧ During his illness he said, 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' Abu Bakr went out and said the takbir. The Prophet ﷺ felt some relief and came out, leaning between two men. When Abu Bakr saw him, he stepped back, but the Prophet ﷺ gestured to him: 'Stay in your place.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat beside Abu Bakr and recited from the point in the surah that Abu Bakr had reached.

✧ I was a merchant, and I came for Hajj. I went to al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib to buy some merchandise from him, for he was also a merchant. By Allah, while I was with him at Mina, a man came out of a tent nearby. He looked at the sun, and when he saw that it had declined—meaning—he stood to pray. He said: Then a woman came out of the same tent from which that man had emerged and stood behind him to pray. Then a boy who was nearing puberty came out of that tent and stood with him to pray. He said: I asked al-Abbas, “Who is this, Abbas?” He replied, “This is Muhammad b. Abdullah b. Abd al-Muttalib, my nephew.” I asked, “Who is this woman?” He replied, “This is his wife, Khadijah bt. Khuwaylid.” I asked, “Who is this young man?” He replied, “This is Ali b. Abi Talib, his cousin.” I then asked, “What is he doing?” He replied, “He is praying and claims that he is a prophet. No one has followed him in his cause except his wife and his cousin, this young man. He also claims that the treasures of Khosrow and Caesar will be opened to him.” Afif, who was a cousin of al-Ashath b. Qays, later accepted Islam and became a good Muslim. He would say, “If only Allah had granted me Islam that day, so that I might have been a third alongside Ali b. Abi Talib.”

✧ Al-Abbas had a gutter spout over Umar b. al-Khattab's path. Umar put on his clothes on Friday, and two chicks had been slaughtered for al-Abbas. When he reached the gutter, water mixed with the blood of the two chicks was poured, and it hit Umar, containing the blood of the chicks. Umar ordered it to be removed. Then Umar went back, threw off his clothes, put on other clothes, came, and led the people in prayer. Al-Abbas came to him and said, 'By Allah, it is the very spot where the Prophet ﷺ placed it.'
✧ Al-Ghumaysa—or al-Rumaysa—came to the Messenger of God ﷺ complaining about her husband, claiming that he had not had intercourse with her. It was only a short while before her husband came and claimed that she was lying, but that she wanted to return to her former husband. So the Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'You have no right to that until another man tastes your honey.'
