حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلاثَةَ عَنْ مَسْلَمَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا، فَبَرِحَ ظَبْيٌ، فَمَالَ فِي شِقِّهِ، فَاحْتَضَنْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، تَطَيَّرْتَ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا الطِّيَرَةُ مَا أَمْضَاكَ، أَوْ رَدَّكَ

✧ I went out with the Messenger of God ﷺ one day, and a gazelle appeared, so it went to one side, and I caught it. I said: O Messenger of God, do you regard it as a bad omen? He said: An omen is only what makes you proceed or turns you back.
