✧ We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Batḥāʾ when a cloud passed by. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do you know what this is? He said: We said: The cloud. He said: And al-muzn. We said: And al-muzn. He said: And al-ʿanān. He said: Then we fell silent. He said: Do you know how much is between the heaven and the earth? He said: We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: Between them is a journey of five hundred years, and from each heaven to the next is a journey of five hundred years, and the thickness of each heaven is five hundred years. Above the seventh heaven there is a sea between its lowest and highest parts like that between the heaven and the earth. Then above that are eight mountain goats, between their knees and hooves like that between the heaven and the earth. Then above that is the Throne, between its lowest and highest parts like that between the heaven and the earth. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted, is above that, and nothing of the deeds of the children of Adam is hidden from Him.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationHe is not corroborated, and his narrations are not preserved (ghayr maḥfūẓ). Yaḥyā b. al-ʿAlāʾ is clearly weak (ḍaʿīf) in his narration and his ḥadīth.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 1777
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationI do not know of any raised (marfūʿ) ḥadīth on this topic except the ḥadīth of ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmayrah, and it is a well-known (mashhūr) ḥadīth with this chain. A group narrated it from Simāk, among them Abū Khālid al-Dālānī, ʿUmar and Ibn Abī ʿAmr b. Abī Qays, Shuʿayb b. Abī Khālid, Ibn Abī al-Miqdām, Ibrāhīm b. Ṭahmān and al-Walīd b. Abī Thawr.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 1777
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationThere is disagreement about it from Simāk. al-Bukhārī said: It is not known that he heard from al-Aḥnaf.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 1777
  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim

machine translationThe chain is sound (ṣaḥīḥ al-isnād).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 1777
