   قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أُصَلِّي خَلْفَ فُلَانٍ، وَإِنَّهُ يُطِيلُ الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى رُبَّمَا تَأَخَّرْتُ ! قَالَ: فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَضَبًا مَا رَأَيْتُهُ غَضِبَهُ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ قَطُّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ، فَمَنْ أَمَّ النَّاسَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ بِهِمُ الصَّلَاةَ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

   ✧ A man said: “O Messenger of God, I pray behind so-and-so, and he prolongs the prayer until sometimes I lag behind!” He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ became angry with an anger I never saw him show in any admonition before, then he said: “Among you are those who drive people away. Whoever leads the people in prayer should keep it light for them, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with needs.”

   صَنَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ طَعَامًا، فَقَالَ: تَعَالَ أَنْتَ وَخَمْسَةٌ مَعَكَ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: تَأْذَنُ لِي فِي السَّادِسِ

   ✧ A man among us called Abū Shuʿayb prepared food for the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: “Come, you and five others with you.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Will you permit me to bring a sixth?”

   " كُنَّا نَتَحَامَلُ فَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ الْعَظِيمَةِ فَيُقَالُ: مُرَاءٍ ! وَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِنِصْفِ صَاعٍ، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

   ✧ We used to carry heavy loads, and a man would come with a large charity and it would be said: “He is showing off!” And another man would come with half a ṣāʿ. Then this verse was revealed: “Those who criticize the volunteers among the believers concerning charities,” up to His saying: “a painful punishment.”

   أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَاقَةٍ مَزْمُومَةٍ صَدَقَةً، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِهَا سَبْعُمِائَةِ نَاقَةٍ مَزْمُومَةٍ

   ✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ with a bridled she-camel as charity. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: “On the Day of Resurrection you will have seven hundred bridled she-camels for it.”

   أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: احْمِلْنِي فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ أُبْدِعَ بِي. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " ائْتِ فُلَانًا فَاسْأَلْهُ "، فَأَتَاهُ فَسَأَلَهُ فَحَمَلَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَنْ دَلَّ عَلَى خَيْرٍ فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ فَاعِلِهِ "، أَوْ قَالَ " عَامِلِهِ

   ✧ A man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: “Give me a mount, for I am stranded.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Go to so-and-so and ask him.” He went to him and asked him, and he gave him a mount. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Whoever guides to a good deed has the like of the reward of the one who does it,” or he said: “of its doer.”

   " لَا تُجْزِئُ صَلَاةٌ لِرَجُلٍ لَا يُقِيمُ صُلْبَهُ - أَوْ قَالَ: ظَهْرَهُ - فِي الرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ

   ✧ “The prayer of a man is not sufficient if he does not keep his backbone straight—or he said: his back—in bowing and prostration.”

   كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُسَوِّي مَنَاكِبَنَا، يَعْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَيَقُولُ: اسْتَوُوا، وَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ، وَلْيَلِنِي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو الْأَحْلَامِ وَالنُّهَى "، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ "، قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ: فَأَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ أَشَدُّ اخْتِلَافًا

   ✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to straighten our shoulders, meaning in prayer, and say: “Stand straight and do not differ, lest your hearts differ. Let those of you with maturity and sound judgement stand nearest to me, then those next to them, then those next to them.” Abū Masʿūd said: “Today you differ more severely.”

    " أَيُغْلَبُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ ؟ " قُلْنَا: وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ ثُلُثُ الْقُرْآنِ

    ✧ "Would any of you be unable to recite one third of the Quran every night?" We said, "And who can manage that, O Messenger of God?" He said, "'Say: He is God, One' is one third of the Quran."

    " يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَأَقْدَمُهُمْ قِرَاءَةً، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا، وَلَا تَؤُمَّ الرَّجُلَ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَلَا فِي سُلْطَانِهِ، وَلَا تَجْلِسْ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ "، أَوْ قَالَ: " إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَكَ

    ✧ "The one who should lead the people in prayer is the one who has most knowledge of the Book of God and has been reciting it longest. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who made the hijrah first. If they are equal in hijrah, then the eldest among them. And no man should lead another in prayer in his own home or in his own place of authority, nor should he sit on his special seat, except with his permission," or he said, "unless he gives you permission."

    دَخَلْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي بَيْتٍ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ لَا يَزَالُ فِيكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ وُلَاتُهُ مَا لَمْ تُحْدِثُوا أَعْمَالًا، فَإِذَا أَحْدَثْتُمُوهَا سَلَّطَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ شِرَارِ خَلْقِهِ فَالْتَحَوْكُمْ كَمَا يُلْتَحَى الْقَضِيبُ

    ✧ We entered with the Prophet ﷺ into a house and he said: "This matter will not cease to be among you, and you its guardians, as long as you do not introduce new deeds. But when you introduce them, God, Mighty and Majestic, will set over you the worst of His creation and they will strip you as a branch is stripped of its bark."

    أَلَا أُصَلِّي بِكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْنَا: بَلَى. قَالَ: " فَصَلَّى بِنَا أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ، فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَفَرَّجَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَاسْتَوَى قَائِمًا حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ، فَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ "، ثُمَّ قَالَ: هَكَذَا كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

    ✧ "Shall I not lead you in prayer as the Messenger of God ﷺ used to pray?" He said: We said, "Yes." He said: "Then he led us in four rak'ahs, the noon or the afternoon prayer, and he placed his hands on his knees and spread his fingers apart. He said: Then he raised his head and stood straight until every part of him settled into place. He did that until he finished his prayer." Then he said, "This is how the prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ was."

    " إِنَّ مِمَّا أَدْرَكَ النَّاسُ مِنْ كَلَامِ النُّبُوَّةِ الْأُولَى إِذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحْيِ فَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْتَ

    ✧ "Among what people have retained from the words of the earlier prophethood is: If you feel no shame, do as you wish."
