أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ صُرَدٍ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ نَحْوُ هَذَا الْكَلَامِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ وُجُوهٍ، وَأَعْلَى مَنْ رَوَى ذَلِكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ. وَلَا نَعْلَمُ لِجُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ إِسْنَادًا غَيْرَ هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ، وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، فَاقْتَصَرْنَا عَلَى حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ وَشُعْبَةَ دُونَ غَيْرِهِمَا، وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدٍ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ، قَدْ رَوَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ غَيْرَ حَدِيثٍ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ رَوَى عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ إِلَّا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدٍ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَزْهَرَ
✧ Shu'bah reported to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Sulayman b. Surad, from Jubayr b. Mut'im, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly. This hadith has a sound chain, and similar wording has been narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ through various routes. The highest narrator of this wording from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is Jubayr b. Mut'im, and we know of no chain for Jubayr b. Mut'im other than this one. A group narrated this hadith from Abu Ishaq, and we have limited ourselves to the hadith of al-Thawri and Shu'bah rather than others. Sulayman b. Surad was a Companion and narrated more than one hadith from the Prophet ﷺ, and we know of no Companion who narrated from Jubayr b. Mut'im except Sulayman b. Surad and 'Abd al-Rahman b. Azhar.

لَمَّا قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَهْمَ ذِي الْقُرْبَى بَيْنَ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، أَتَيْتُهُ أَنَا وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنُو هَاشِمٍ، لَا نُنْكِرُ فَضْلَهُمْ لِمَكَانِكَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكَ اللهُ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ، فَمَا بَالُ بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ وَمَنَعْتَنَا، وَإِنَّمَا نَحْنُ وَهُمْ مِنْكَ بِمَنْزِلَةٍ، قَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُفَارِقُونِي جَاهِلِيَّةً، وَلَا إِسْلَامًا، وَإِنَّمَا بَنُو هَاشِمٍ وَبَنُو الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ " وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ ".
✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the share of the near relatives between Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib, I and 'Uthman b. 'Affan came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, these are Banu Hashim; we do not deny their virtue because of the position in which Allah has placed you among them. But what about Banu al-Muttalib? You gave them and refused us, although we and they are in the same position in relation to you.' He said: 'They never separated from me in Jahiliyyah nor in Islam. Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib are one and the same thing.' And he interlaced his fingers.

✧ "May Allah brighten [the face of] a person who hears my statement, memorizes it, and conveys it as he heard it; for perhaps the one who carries understanding conveys it to one who has more understanding than him, and perhaps the one who carries understanding is not himself a jurist."

✧ "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was distributing the spoils of Hunayn, when a samurah tree snatched his cloak. He said: 'O people, return my cloak to me! For by the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if you had as many gold [pieces] as the leaves of that tree, I would distribute them among you, and you would not find me miserly or cowardly. It is only the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you.'"

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ at al-Juhfah when he said: "Do you not testify that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and that the Qur'an came from Allah?" We said: "Indeed." He said: "Then rejoice, for this Qur'an—one end is in Allah's hand and the other end is in your hands. Hold fast to it, for you will never be destroyed nor go astray after it, ever."

✧ "We were around an idol of ours a month before the Prophet ﷺ was sent, and we had slaughtered a camel, when a crier cried out from inside it: 'Listen to the wonder! Polytheism and defilement have gone, and the shooting stars have been sent for a prophet in Makkah whose name is Ahmad, and whose migration is to Yathrib.'"

أَخْبَرَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ. وَإِنَّمَا ذَكَرْنَا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَلَى اخْتِلَافِ إِسْنَادِهِ وَاضْطِرَابِهِ، لِأَنَّا لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنْ وَجْهٍ مُتَّصِلٍ غَيْرُ هَذَا فَذَكَرْنَاهُ وَبَيَّنَّا مَا فِيهِ مِنَ الْعِلَّةِ
✧ Husayn b. 'Ali informed us, from Ibn 'Uyaynah, from 'Amr b. Dinar, from Jabir. We have mentioned this hadith despite the differences in its chain and its instability, because we do not know of it being narrated from the Prophet ﷺ through any connected route other than this; so we mentioned it and clarified the defect in it.

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "The people of Yemen have come to you, as if they are pieces of cloud; they are the best of the people of the earth." A man from the Ansar said: "Except us." He said: "Except you"—a light word.

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ الْبُلْدَانِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللهِ ؟ وَأَيُّ الْبُلْدَانِ أَبْغَضُ إِلَى اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ جِبْرِيلَ ﷺ " فَأَتَاهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ جِبْرِيلُ، أَنَّ أَحَبَّ الْبِقَاعِ إِلَى اللهِ الْمَسَاجِدُ، وَأَبْغَضُ الْبِقَاعِ إِلَى اللهِ الْأَسْوَاقُ
✧ A man said: "O Messenger of God, which lands are most beloved to God, and which lands are most hateful to God?" He said: "I do not know until I ask Jibril ﷺ." So he came to him, and Jibril informed him that the most beloved places to God are the mosques, and the most hateful places to God are the markets.

✧ I heard Ya'qub b. 'Utbah and Jubayr b. Muhammad b. Jubayr, from his father, from his grandfather—this is how Abu Musa, Bundar, and 'Abd al-A'la b. Hammad narrated it to us, and they were followed in that, for they all agreed upon this chain, because the copy of Wahb b. Jarir, from his father, from Ibn Ishaq, belonged to 'Abd al-A'la b. Hammad, and it was thus in his book, and Abu Musa and Bundar copied from the book of 'Abd al-A'la, so it fell in their books thus.

أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَعْرَابِيٌّ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، جُهِدَتِ الْأَنْفُسُ، وَضَاعَ الْعِيَالُ، وَهَلَكَتِ الْأَمْوَالُ، فَاسْتَسْقِ اللهَ لَنَا، فَإِنَّا نَسْتَشْفِعُ بِكَ عَلَى اللهِ، وَنَسْتَشْفِعُ بِاللهِ عَلَيْكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " وَيْحَكَ تَدْرِي مَا تَقُولُ ؟ " فَسَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، حَتَّى عُرِفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَوُجُوهِ أَصْحَابِهِ، وَقَالَ: وَيْحَكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يُسْتَشْفَعُ بِاللهِ عَلَى أَحَدٍ، إِنَّ اللهَ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ
✧ A bedouin came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of God, souls are exhausted, families are lost, and wealth is destroyed. Ask God for rain for us, for we seek intercession through you with God, and we seek intercession through God with you." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Woe to you! Do you know what you are saying?" The Messenger of God ﷺ then glorified God until that was evident in his face and the faces of his companions, and he said: "Woe to you! God is not to be sought as an intercessor with anyone. God is greater than that."

✧ Ahmad b. 'Abdah and Ahmad b. Aban informed us, saying: Sufyan informed us, from 'Amr b. Dinar, from Nafi' b. Jubayr b. Mut'im, from a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, from the Prophet ﷺ, with something similar. We do not know any route for this hadith from Jubayr b. Mut'im except this route, and we do not know anyone who narrated it and named [the man] after Nafi' b. Jubayr except Hammad b. Salamah.
