✧ We were sitting with the Messenger of God ﷺ when a woman came to him with a child or two children of hers, carrying them, and another young son. He said: I think she was pregnant. He said: I think she did not ask the Messenger of God ﷺ for anything that day except that he gave it to her. When she turned away, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Carriers, bearers, merciful ones. Were it not for what they do to their husbands, those among them who pray would enter Paradise."

✧ I witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage and heard him say: "God, Mighty and Majestic, has given every possessor of a right his right, so there is no bequest to an heir. The child belongs to the bed, and the stone to the adulterer. Their reckoning is with God. Whoever claims descent from other than his father or affiliates himself with other than his patrons, upon him is the curse of God, continuous until the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, it is not lawful for a woman to give anything from her husband's wealth except with his permission." A man said: "O Messenger of God, not even food?" He said: "That is the best of our wealth."

✧ Debt is to be repaid, and borrowed property is to be returned, and the gift given for temporary use is to be given back, and the guarantor is liable.

✧ Ablution expiates what came before it, and prayer becomes supererogatory.” It was said, “Did you hear it from the Messenger of God ﷺ?” He said, “Not once, not twice, not three, not four, not five.”

✧ God, Mighty and Majestic, created the creation and decreed the decree and took the covenant of the prophets while His Throne was upon the water. So the people of Paradise are its people, and the people of the Fire are its people.

✧ Among the people I most envy is a servant who has a share of prayer, who obeys his Lord and increases his worship in secret, who is not pointed at with fingers, who is obscure among people, whose livelihood is just enough, whose death comes quickly, whose inheritance is little, and whose weepers are few.

✧ God, Mighty and Majestic, sent me as guidance and mercy for the worlds, and commanded me to eradicate stringed instruments, wind instruments, idols, crosses, and the affairs of the pre-Islamic era. And my Lord swore by His might and majesty—or by His oath: No servant of My servants drinks a gulp of wine deliberately in this world but that I will give him to drink in its place from the pus on the Day of Resurrection, whether forgiven or punished. And no one gives it to drink to a weak Muslim child but that I will give him to drink in its place from the pus on the Day of Resurrection, whether forgiven or punished. And no one leaves it out of fear of Me but that I will give him to drink it in the enclosure of holiness. Their selling is not lawful, nor their buying, nor trading in them, and their price is forbidden.

✧ When a Muslim performs ablution and does it well, then if he sits, he sits forgiven, and if he prays, it is a merit for him.” It was said to him, “Or a supererogatory prayer?” He said, “Supererogatory prayers were only for the Prophet ﷺ.”

✧ I was with Abu Umamah when heads of the Kharijites were brought and set up on the steps of Damascus. He said, “Dogs of the Fire”—he said it three times—“the worst of those slain under the shade of the sky. The best of those slain are those whom they killed and who killed them.” He said it three times. I said, “Something you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ or something you say by your own opinion?” He said, “Then I would be bold, then I would be bold. Rather, it is something I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ.”

✧ A people of this community will spend the night on food, drink, amusement, and play, and will wake up transformed into apes and pigs. And they will be struck by sinking and pelting until people wake up and say, ‘The tribe of so-and-so was swallowed up last night,’ and ‘The house of so-and-so was swallowed up last night,’ specifically. And He will send upon them a storm of stones from the sky as it was sent upon the people of Lot upon tribes among them and upon houses. And He will send upon them the barren wind that destroyed ‘Ad upon tribes among them and upon houses because of their drinking wine, their wearing silk, their taking female singers, their consuming usury, and their severing ties of kinship.” And one trait Ja‘far forgot.

✧ Excellent, excellent! Five things, how heavy they are: ‘Glory be to God,’ ‘Praise be to God,’ ‘There is no god but God,’ ‘God is greatest,’ and a righteous child who dies and his parent seeks reward for him.
