شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رُجِمَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَجُلٌ قَصِيرٌ ذُو عَضَلَاتٍ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ رَجْمِهِ قَالَ: كُلَّمَا نَفَرْنَا غَازِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يَخْلُفُ أَحَدُهُمْ يَنِبُّ نَبِيبَ التَّيْسِ يَمْنَحُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْكُثْبَةَ، أَمَا إِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يُمَكِّنِّي مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا نَكَّلْتُهُ وَجَعَلْتُهُ نَكَالًا
✧ I witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ when Maiz b. Malik, a short man with muscles, was stoned. When he finished stoning him, he said: "Whenever we go out as raiders in the path of God, one of them stays behind and bleats like a goat, giving one of them a small amount of milk. Indeed, God has not enabled me against any of them except that I would make an example of him and turn him into a warning."

✧ "He was asked about ablution from the meat of sheep, and he allowed it. He was asked about praying in sheep folds—or he said: their resting places (Abu Dawud was uncertain)—and he allowed it. He was asked about ablution from the meat of camels, and he commanded it. He was asked about praying in camel resting places, and he forbade it and disliked it."

✧ I said to Jabir b. Samurah: "Did you sit with the Prophet ﷺ?" He said: "Yes. He was long-silent and rarely laughed, and his companions would sometimes recite poetry to one another in his presence and talk about some of their affairs, and they would laugh; and sometimes he would smile."

كَيْفَ كَانَ يَخْطُبُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: مَنْ حَدَّثَكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَطَبَ قَاعِدًا فَكَذِّبْهُ، فَأَنَا شَهِدْتُ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا، قُلْتُ: فَكَيْفَ كَانَتْ خُطْبَتُهُ ؟ قَالَ: كَانَ قَصْدًا، كَانَ يَقْرَأُ آيَاتٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ وَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِكَلِمَاتٍ يَعِظُ بِهِنَّ النَّاسَ
✧ How did the Messenger of God ﷺ deliver the sermon? He said: "Whoever tells you that the Messenger of God ﷺ delivered a sermon sitting down, disbelieve him. I witnessed him delivering the sermon standing." I said: "How was his sermon?" He said: "It was moderate; he would recite verses from the Book of God and speak words of admonition to the people."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَتْ لَهُ نَاقَةٌ بِالْحَرَّةِ فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَى رَجُلٍ وَقَدْ كَانَتْ مَرِضَتْ، فَلَمَّا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَمُوتَ قَالَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ: لَوْ نَحَرْتَهَا وَأَكَلْنَا مِنْهَا ! فَأَبَى، وَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَعِنْدَكُمْ مَا يُغْنِيكُمْ ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَكُلُوهَا، وَكَانَتْ قَدْ مَاتَتْ، قَالَتْ: فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْ وَدَكِهَا وَلَحْمِهَا وَشَحْمِهَا نَحْوًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ يَوْمًا، ثُمَّ لَقِيَ صَاحِبَهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ: أَلَا كُنْتَ نَحَرْتَهَا ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْكَ
✧ A man had a she-camel in the Harrah. He gave it to another man when it had become ill. When it was about to die, his wife said to him: "If only you would slaughter it and we could eat from it!" But he refused. He went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said: "Do you have anything that would suffice you?" He said: "No." He said: "Then eat it." It had already died. She said: "We ate from its fat, meat, and suet for about twenty days. Then he met its owner and said to him: 'Why didn't you slaughter it?' He said: 'I was too shy before you.'"

✧ I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ pointing with his finger in the prayer. When he said the salam, I heard him say: O God, I ask You for all good, what I know of it and what I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, what I know of it and what I do not know.
