    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «قُمْتُ عَلَى بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ يَدْخُلُهَا الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَّا أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَدِّ مَحْبُوسُونَ إِلَّا أَهْلَ النَّارِ فَقَدْ أُمِرَ بِهِمْ إِلَى النَّارِ وَوَقَفْتُ عَلَى بَابِ النَّارِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ دَخَلَهَا النِّسَاءُ»

    ✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: “I stood at the gate of Paradise, and most of those who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were held back, except the people of the Fire, who had already been ordered to the Fire. And I stood at the gate of the Fire, and most of those who entered it were women.”

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Recite the Quran as long as your hearts remain united upon it, but when you differ, then leave.”

    هَجَّرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَسَمِعَ رَجُلَيْنِ يَخْتَلِفَانِ فِي آيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَخَرَجَ وَالْغَضَبُ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِاخْتِلَافِهِمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ»

    ✧ I went early to the Messenger of God ﷺ one day, and he heard two men disagreeing about a verse from the Book of God. He came out with anger recognizable on his face and said: “Those before you were destroyed only by their disagreement about the Book.”

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ فَقَدِمَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَسَمِعْتُ الْأَنْصَارََََُ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَوَافَوْا صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رَآهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَظُنُّكُمْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدِمَ بِشَيْءٍ؟» قَالَوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ قَبْلَكُم فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا فَتُهْلِكَكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ»

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah, and he came with wealth from Bahrain. The Ansar heard of Abu Ubaydah's arrival and attended the dawn prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ. After the prayer, the Messenger of God ﷺ left, and they approached him. He smiled when he saw them and said: “I think you heard that Abu Ubaydah has come with something?” They said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He said: “Rejoice and hope for what pleases you. By God, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those before you, and you will compete for it as they competed, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.”

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُ اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ شَبَابَكَ قَبْلَ هَرَمِكَ وَصِحَّتَكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ وَغِنَاكَ قَبْلَ فَقْرِكَ وَفَرَاغَكَ قَبْلَ شُغْلِكَ وَحَيَاتِكَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِكَ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to a man while advising him: “Seize five things before five: your youth before old age, your health before sickness, your wealth before poverty, your free time before occupation, and your life before death.”

    قَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ هَذَا مَقَامُ أَخِيكِ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ أَوْ كَرَبَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ يَقْرَأُ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ يَرْكَعُ وَيَسْجُدُ وَيَبْكِي {أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ } [الجاثية 21] الْآيَةَ

    ✧ A man from the people of Makkah said to me: This is the station of your brother Tamim al-Dari. I saw him one night until morning, or nearly until morning, reciting a verse from the Book of God, bowing, prostrating, and weeping: {Or do those who commit evils think that We will make them like those who believe and do righteous deeds?} [Al-Jathiyah 21], the verse.

    ✧ I heard al-Zubayr b. al-'Awwam saying: Whoever can have for himself a hidden store of righteous deeds, let him do so.

    «إِذَا كَانَ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَرْضِ قِيٍّ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ تَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ يُنَادِي بِالصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يُقِيمُهَا ثُمَّ يُصَلِّيهَا إِلَّا أُمَّ مِنْ جُنُودِ اللهِ صَفًّا» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَزَادَنِي سُفْيَانُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ يَرْكَعُونَ بِرُكُوعِهِ وَيَسْجُدُونَ بِسُجُودِهِ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ عَلَى دُعَائِهِ

    ✧ "When a man is in a barren land and performs wudu, and if he does not find water, he performs tayammum, then calls the adhan for prayer, then says the iqama, then prays it, except that a row of Allah's soldiers will be formed." 'Abdullah said: And Sufyan added to me, from Dawud, from Abu 'Uthman, from Salman: "They bow with his bowing and prostrate with his prostration and say amin to his supplication."

    ✧ 'Abdullah: "I have known that I will enter the Fire, and I do not know whether I will be saved from it or not."

    فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ يَا أَبَا مَيْسَرَةَ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَيْكَ هَدَاكَ لِلْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ «أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ بَيْنَ لَنَا أَنَّا وَارِدُونَ النَّارَ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ لَنَا أَنَّا صَادِرُونَ مِنْهَا»

    ✧ His wife said: O Abu Maysara, Allah has been good to you—He guided you to Islam. He said: "Yes, but Allah has made clear to us that we will enter the Fire, and He has not made clear to us that we will come out of it."

    قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ رَجُلٌ قَلِيلُ الْعَمَلِ قَلِيلُ الذُّنُوبِ أَعْجَبُ إِلَيْكِ أَوْ رَجُلٌ كَثِيرُ الْعَمَلِ كَثِيرُ الذُّنُوبِ؟ قَالَ «لَا أَعْدِلُ بِالسَّلَامَةِ شَيْئًا»

    ✧ A man said to him: A man of few deeds and few sins is more pleasing to you, or a man of many deeds and many sins? He said: "I would not equate anything with safety."

    وَاللهِ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا سَيَخْلُو بِرَبِّهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَا غَرَّكَ بِي؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا عَمِلْتَ فِيمَا عَلِمْتَ؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا أَجَبْتَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ؟

    ✧ By Allah, there is none of you but will be alone with his Lord, and He will say: O son of Adam, what deceived you concerning Me? O son of Adam, what did you do with what you knew? O son of Adam, what did you answer the messengers?

    أُتِيَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بِشَرَابٍ فَقَالَ «نَاوِلْ عَلْقَمَةَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلِ الْأَسْوَدَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلْ فُلَانًا» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَكُلُّهُمْ يَقُولُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنِّي لَسْتُ بِصَائِمٍ فَأَخَذَ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ {يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ الْقُلُوبُ وَالْأَبْصَارُ} [النور 37]

    ✧ Abdullah was brought a drink, so he said, "Give it to someone else." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to Aswad." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to so-and-so." He said, "I am fasting." All of them said, "I am fasting." Abdullah said, "I am not fasting." So, he took it and drank it, then he said, "They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned." [Surah An-Noor, 37]

    عَبْدُ اللهِ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {اتَّقُوا اللهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] قَالَ {حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] «أَنْ يُطَاعَ فَلَا يُعْصَى وَأَنْ يَشْكُرَ فَلَا يُكَفِّرُ وَأَنْ يَذْكُرَ فَلَا يَنْسَى» قَالَ مُرَّةُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ {وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ} [البقرة 177] قَالَ «وَأَنْتَ حَرِيصٌ شَحِيحٌ تَأْمُلُ الْغِنَى وَتَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ»

    ✧ 'Abdullah said about this verse: {Fear Allah as He should be feared} [Al 'Imran 102]: {As He should be feared} [Al 'Imran 102] "is that He is obeyed and not disobeyed, thanked and not denied, remembered and not forgotten." Murra said: 'Abdullah said: {And gives wealth in spite of love for it} [al-Baqarah 177]: "while you are eager, stingy, hoping for wealth and fearing poverty."

    أُغْمِيَ عَلَى أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَأَفَاقَ فَإِذَا بِلَالٌ ابْنُهُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَاخْرُجْ عَنِّي ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِمِثْلِ مَضْجَعِي هَذَا؟ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مِثْلَ سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ؟ {وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ} [الأنعام 110] أَبَيْتُمْ ثُمَّ يُغْمَى عَلَيْهِ فَيَلْبَثُ لَبْثًا ثُمَّ يُفِيقُ فَيَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُرَدِّدُهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ

    ✧ Abu al-Darda' fell unconscious, then regained consciousness, and there was Bilal, his son, with him. He said: “Get up and leave me.” Then he said: “Who will act for the likes of this resting place of mine? Who will act for the likes of this hour of mine?” {We will turn their hearts and their eyes away [from the truth], just as they did not believe in it the first time, and We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly} [al-An'am 110]. “You refused.” Then he would fall unconscious, remain for some time, then regain consciousness and say the like of that, and he kept repeating it until he passed away.

    ✧ I said to Umm al-Darda': “Which act of worship of Abu al-Darda' was most frequent?” She said: “Reflection and taking heed.”

    ✧ Aisha wrote to Muawiyah: After this, fear Allah, for if you fear Allah, it will be sufficient for you in dealing with people. But if you fear people, they will not benefit you at all against Allah.

    ✧ “I found them striving between the targets, and some of them laughing at others, but when night came they were like monks.”

    إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَمْرًا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ فَلَا تُؤَخِّرْهُ لِغَدٍ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ آخِرَةٍ فَامْكُثْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ الدُّنْيَا فَتَوَجَّهْ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ تُصَلِّي فَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ إِنَّكَ تُرَائِي فَزِدْهَا طَوْلًا

    ✧ If you intend to do something good, do not delay it until tomorrow. If you are engaged in a matter of the Hereafter, remain in it as long as you can. If you are engaged in a matter of this world, then turn to it. If you are praying and Satan says, “You are showing off,” then increase its length.

    سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيُذْنِبُ الذَّنْبَ فَمَا يَزَالُ بِهِ كَئِيبًا حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ»

    ✧ I heard Al-Hasan saying, "Indeed, a person may commit a sin and continue to feel remorseful until they enter Paradise."

    يَطْلُعُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَى قَوْمٍ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَيَقُولُونَ مَا أَدْخَلَكُمُ النَّارَ فَإِنَّا أُدْخِلْنَا الْجَنَّةَ بِفَضْلِ تَأْدِيبِكُمْ وَتَعْلِيمِكُمْ؟ فَقَالَوا إِنَّا كُنَّا نَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْخَيْرِ وَلَا نَفْعَلُهُ

    ✧ Some people of Paradise will look at some people of the Fire and say: “What made you enter the Fire, when we entered Paradise by the virtue of your discipline and teaching?” They will say: “We used to command you to do good but we did not do it ourselves.”

    «مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً فِي بُقْعَةٍ مِنْ بِقَاعِ الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا شَهِدَتْ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَبَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ يَمُوتُ»

    ✧ “There is no servant who prostrates to Allah a single prostration in any spot of the earth but that it will testify for him on the Day of Resurrection and weep over him on the day he dies.”

    قُلْ لَهُ «عَلَيْكًَ بِالَّذِي يَبْقَى لَكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ فَإِنَّ مَا بَقِيَ عِنْدَ اللهِ بَقِيَ عِنْدَ النَّاسِ وَمَا لَمْ يَبْقَ عِنْدَ اللهِ لَمْ يَبْقَ عِنْدَ النَّاسِ»

    ✧ Say to him: “You must hold onto that which remains for you with Allah, for indeed whatever remains with Allah remains with people, and whatever does not remain with Allah does not remain with people.”

    كَانَ عَمْرو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ يَخْرُجُ عَلَى فَرَسِهِ لَيْلًا فَيَقِفُ عَلَى الْقُبُورِ فَيَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ أَقَدْ طُوِيَتِ الصُّحُفُ؟ أَقَدْ رُفِعَتِ الْأَعْمَالُ؟ ثُمَّ يَبْكِي ثُمَّ يُصْفِنُ بَيْن قَدَمَيْهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ فَيَرْجِعَ فَيَشْهَدَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ

    ✧ Amr b. Utbah b. Farqad used to go out on his horse at night and stand by the graves and say: “O people of the graves! Have the scrolls been folded? Have the deeds been raised?” Then he would weep, then he would stand still between his feet until morning, then return and attend the morning prayer.

    ✧ "What was stolen cannot be found except for his legs, swollen from the prolonged standing in prayer," she said, "By Allah, if I were to sit behind him, I would weep out of mercy for him."
