عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
كَانَ عَمْرو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ يَخْرُجُ عَلَى فَرَسِهِ لَيْلًا فَيَقِفُ عَلَى الْقُبُورِ فَيَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ أَقَدْ طُوِيَتِ الصُّحُفُ؟ أَقَدْ رُفِعَتِ الْأَعْمَالُ؟ ثُمَّ يَبْكِي ثُمَّ يُصْفِنُ بَيْن قَدَمَيْهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ فَيَرْجِعَ فَيَشْهَدَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ
Translation

✧ Amr b. Utbah b. Farqad used to go out on his horse at night and stand by the graves and say: “O people of the graves! Have the scrolls been folded? Have the deeds been raised?” Then he would weep, then he would stand still between his feet until morning, then return and attend the morning prayer.
