✧ That he heard 'Abd Allah b. 'Umar when a man from Banu Ka'b called Mas'ud b. 'Amr asked him: O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, my son was in the land of Persia among those with 'Umar b. 'Ubayd Allah, and a severe plague struck al-Basrah. When that reached me, I vowed that if Allah brought my son back, I would walk to the Ka'bah. He returned sick and died. What do you think? Ibn 'Umar said: Were you not forbidden from vows? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A vow does not bring anything forward or delay it; it only extracts something from the miser." Fulfill your vow.
