  1. Sunan ad-Darimi 2062Accepted

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ «سَمِّ اللَّهَ وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to him: “Mention Allah's name, and eat from what is near you.”

  2. Sunan ad-Darimi 2063Sahih

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْكُلُ طَعَامًا فِي سِتَّةِ نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَأَكَلَهُ بِلُقْمَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَوْ ذَكَرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ لَكَفَاكُمْ فَإِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ نَسِيَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ was eating food with six of his companions when a Bedouin came and ate it up in two mouthfuls. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, if he had mentioned the name of Allah, it would have sufficed you all. So when one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allah, let him say: In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end.”

    أَخْبَرَنَا بُنْدَارٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بُدَيْلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ

    ✧ Bundar informed us, Muadh b. Hisham narrated to us from his father, from Budayl, from Abdullah b. Ubayd b. Umayr, from Umm Kulthum, from Aishah, with this hadith.

  4. Sunan ad-Darimi 2065Accepted

    قَالَ أَبِي لِأُمِّي لَوْ صَنَعْتِ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَعَامًا فَصَنَعَتْ ثَرِيدَةً وَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ يُقْلِلُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبِي فَدَعَاهُ فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ عَلَى ذِرْوَتِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «خُذُوا بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ» فَأَخَذُوا مِنْ نَوَاحِيهَا فَلَمَّا طَعِمُوا دَعَا لَهُمْ فَقَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ وَبَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِي رِزْقِهِمْ»

    ✧ My father said to my mother: If you would make food for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So she made a tharidah, and he gestured with his hand, indicating little. My father went and invited him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his hand on its top and then said: “Take, in the name of Allah.” They took from its sides. When they had eaten, he supplicated for them, saying: “O Allah, forgive them, have mercy on them, and bless them in their provision.”

  5. Sunan ad-Darimi 2066Sahih

    كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَوْ شَرِبَ قَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ غَيْرَ مَكْفُورٍ وَلَا مُوَدَّعٍ وَلَا مُسْتَغْنًى عَنْهُ رَبِّنَا»

    ✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate or drank, he would say: “Praise be to Allah, abundant, good, blessed praise, not rejected, nor left, nor dispensed with, O our Lord.”

  6. Sunan ad-Darimi 2067Hasan

    «الطَّاعِمُ الشَّاكِرُ كَالصَّائِمِ الصَّابِرِ»

    ✧ “The grateful eater is like the patient fasting person.”

  7. Sunan ad-Darimi 2068Sahih

    «إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَلْعَقْ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلَاثَ»

    ✧ “When one of you eats, let him lick his three fingers.”

  8. Sunan ad-Darimi 2069Sahih

    «إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلَا يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَ أَصَابِعَهُ أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا »

    ✧ “When one of you eats, let him not wipe his hand until he licks his fingers or has them licked.”

  9. Sunan ad-Darimi 2070Sahih

    دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا نُبَيْشَةُ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَأْكُلُ طَعَامًا فَدَعَوْنَاهُ فَأَكَلَ مَعَنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ

    ✧ Nubayshah, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, came in upon us while we were eating some food. We invited him, and he ate with us, then he said:

    «إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَمْسَحْ عَنْهَا التُّرَابَ وَلْيُسَمِّ اللَّهَ وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا»

    ✧ “When a morsel of one of you falls, let him wipe off the dust from it, pronounce the name of Allah, and eat it.”

    كَانَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ يَتَغَدَّى فَسَقَطَتْ لُقْمَتُهُ فَأَخَذَهَا فَأَمَاطَ مَا بِهَا مِنْ أَذًى ثُمَّ أَكَلَهَا قال فَجَعَلَ أُولَئِكَ الدَّهَاقِينُ يَتَغَامَزُونَ بِهِ فَقَالُوا لَهُ مَا تَرَى مَا يَقُولُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَعَاجِمُ يَقُولُونَ انْظُرُوا إِلَى مَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ وَإِلَى مَا يَصْنَعُ بِهَذِهِ اللُّقْمَةِ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ لِأَدَعَ مَا سَمِعْتُ منْ رسولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِقَوْلِ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَعَاجِمِ إِنَّا كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِنَا أَنْ يُمِيطَ مَا بِهَا مِنَ الْأَذَى وَأَنْ يَأْكُلَهَا»

    ✧ Maʿqil b. Yasār was eating lunch when his morsel fell. He took it, removed whatever dirt was on it, then ate it. Those village chiefs began winking at one another about him, and they said to him, “Do you not see what these non-Arabs are saying? They say, ‘Look at the food in front of him and what he does with this morsel!’” He said, “I will not abandon what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ because of the words of these non-Arabs. We were commanded, when a morsel of one of us fell, to remove whatever dirt was on it and to eat it.”

  12. Sunan ad-Darimi 2073Sahih

    «إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِيَمِينِهِ وَلْيَشْرَبْ بِيَمِينِهِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِشِمَالِهِ وَيَشْرَبُ بِشِمَالِهِ»

    ✧ “When one of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and let him drink with his right hand. Indeed, Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand.”

  13. Sunan ad-Darimi 2074Sahih

    أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ

    ✧ ʿAmr b. ʿAwn narrated to us, from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Bakr, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.

  14. Sunan ad-Darimi 2075Hasan

    أَبْصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بُسْرَ بْنَ رَاعِي الْعِيرِ يَأْكُلُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَقَالَ «كُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ» قَالَ لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ قَالَ «لَا اسْتَطَعْتَ» قَالَ فَمَا وَصَلَتْ يَمِينُهُ إِلَى فِيهِ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw Busr b. Rāʿī al-ʿĪr eating with his left hand, so he said, “Eat with your right hand.” He said, “I cannot.” He said, “May you never be able.” And his right hand never reached his mouth after that.

  15. Sunan ad-Darimi 2076Sahih

    «كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ بِثَلَاثِ أَصَابِعَ وَلَا يَمْسَحُ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا»

    ✧ “The Prophet ﷺ used to eat with three fingers and would not wipe his hand until he had licked it.”

  16. Sunan ad-Darimi 2077Accepted

    كَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ الثَّلَاثِ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ لَعِقَهَا»

    ✧ “He used to eat with his three fingers, and when he finished, he would lick them.”

  17. Sunan ad-Darimi 2078No grade recorded

    «مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ جَارَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِِيَصْمُتْ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ جَائِزَتَهُ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً وَالضِّيَافَةُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ صَدَقَةٌ»

    ✧ “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his neighbor. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say what is good or remain silent. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest with his due reward for a day and a night. Hospitality is three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity.”

  18. Sunan ad-Darimi 2079Sahih

    «مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيُحْسِنْ إِلَى جَارِهِ وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَسْكُتْ»

    ✧ “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him be good to his neighbor. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say what is good or remain silent.”

  19. Sunan ad-Darimi 2080Hasan

    «أَيُّمَا مُسْلِمٍ ضَافَ قَوْمًا فَأَصْبَحَ الضَّيْفُ مَحْرُومًا فَإِنَّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ نَصْرَهُ حَتَّى يَأْخُذَ لَهُ بِقِرَى لَيْلَتِهِ مِنْ زَرْعِهِ وَمَالِهِ»

    ✧ “Any Muslim who is a guest of a people and wakes up as a deprived guest, then every Muslim is obligated to help him until he takes for him the hospitality of his night from their crops and wealth.”

  20. Sunan ad-Darimi 2081Sahih

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا سَقَطَ الذُّبَابٌ فِي شَرَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْمِسْهُ كُلَّهُ ثُمَّ لِيَنْزِعْهُ فَإِنَّ فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَيْهِ دَاءً وَفِي الْآخَرِ شِفَاءً»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When a fly falls into the drink of one of you, let him immerse it completely, then remove it. For in one of its wings is disease and in the other is a cure.”

  21. Sunan ad-Darimi 2082Weak

    إِذَا وَقَعَ الذُّبَابٌ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْمِسْهُ فَإِنَّ فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَيْهِ دَاءً وَفِي الْآخَرِ شِفَاءً

    ✧ When a fly falls into the vessel of any of you, let him immerse it, for in one of its wings there is disease and in the other there is healing.

  22. Sunan ad-Darimi 2083Weak

    «الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ»

    ✧ The believer eats in one stomach, and the disbeliever eats in seven stomachs.

  23. Sunan ad-Darimi 2084Sahih

    أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

    ✧ Ubayd Allah b. Umar al-Qawariri reported to us: Yahya b. Sa'id narrated to us from Ubayd Allah: Nafi' narrated to me from Ibn Umar from the Prophet ﷺ.

  24. Sunan ad-Darimi 2085Weak

    وحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْوَدَّاكِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

    ✧ And Yahya narrated to me from Mujalid from Abu al-Waddak from Abu Sa'id from the Prophet ﷺ.

  25. Sunan ad-Darimi 2086Hasan

    «الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ»

    ✧ The believer eats in one stomach, and the disbeliever eats in seven stomachs.

  26. Sunan ad-Darimi 2087Sahih

    «طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ وَطَعَامُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ يَكْفِي ثَمَانِيَةً»

    ✧ The food of one suffices two, the food of two suffices four, and the food of four suffices eight.

  27. Sunan ad-Darimi 2088Accepted

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ «سَمِّ اللَّهَ وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Mention the name of Allah and eat from what is near you.'

  29. Sunan ad-Darimi 2090Sahih

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِجَفْنَةٍ أَوْ قَالَ قَصْعَةٍ مِنْ ثَرِيدٍ فَقَالَ كُلُوا مِنْ حَافَاتِهَا أَوْ قَالَ جَوَانِبِهَا وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ وَسَطِهَا فَإِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ تَنْزِلُ فِي وَسَطِهَا

    ✧ A large bowl of tharid was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or he said a small bowl, and he said: 'Eat from its edges,' or he said 'its sides, and do not eat from its middle, for the blessing descends in its middle.'

  30. Sunan ad-Darimi 2091Hasan

    أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ إِذَا أُتِيَتْ بِثَرِيدٍ أَمَرَتْ بِهِ فَغُطِّيَ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ فَوْرَةُ وَدُخَانُهُ وَتَقُولُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «هُوَ أَعْظَمُ لِلْبَرَكَةِ»

    ✧ When tharid was brought to her, she ordered that it be covered until its bubbling and steam subsided, and she said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: It is greater for blessing.'

  31. Sunan ad-Darimi 2092Sahih

    أَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِيَدِي ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ فَقَالَ «هَلْ مِنْ غَدَاءٍ أَوْ مِنْ عَشَاءٍ؟» شَكَّ طَلْحَةُ قَالَ فَأَخْرَجَ إِلَيْهِ فِلَقًا مِنْ خُبْزٍ فَقَالَ «أَمَا مِنْ أُدْمٍ؟» قَالُوا لَا إِلَّا شَيْءٌ مِنْ خَلٍّ فَقَالَ «هَاتُوهُ فَنِعْمَ الْإِدَامُ الْخَلُّ» قَالَ جَابِرٌ «فَمَا زِلْتُ أُحِبُّ الْخَلَّ مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»

    ✧ One day the Prophet ﷺ took me by the hand to his house and said: 'Is there any lunch or dinner?' Talhah was uncertain. He said: Then he brought out to him broken pieces of bread and said: 'Is there any condiment?' They said: 'No, except a little vinegar.' He said: 'Bring it, for how excellent a condiment vinegar is.' Jabir said: 'I have not ceased to love vinegar since I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'

  32. Sunan ad-Darimi 2093Sahih

    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «نِعْمَ الْإِدَامُ أَوْ نِعْمَ الْأُدْمُ الْخَلُّ»

    ✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: 'How excellent a condiment is vinegar, or how excellent a relish is vinegar.'

  33. Sunan ad-Darimi 2094Sahih

    «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِمَرَقَةٍ فِيهَا دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ يَأْكُلُهُ»

    ✧ I saw the Prophet ﷺ when a broth containing gourd and dried meat was brought to him, and I saw him picking out the gourd and eating it.

  34. Sunan ad-Darimi 2095Sahih

    «كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْجِبُهُ الْقَرْعُ» قَالَ «فَقُدِّمَ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَنَاوَلُهُ وَأَجْعَلُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to like gourd. He said: So it was offered to him, and I began to take some and place it before him.

  35. Sunan ad-Darimi 2096Hasan

    «كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ فَإِنَّهُ مُبَارَكٌ وَائْتَدِمُوا بِهِ وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ»

    ✧ Eat olive oil, for it is blessed; use it as a dip and apply it as oil, for it comes from a blessed tree.

  36. Sunan ad-Darimi 2097Sahih

    قَالَ فِي غَزْوَةِ خَيْبَرَ «مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ يَعْنِي الثُّومَ فَلَا يَأْتِيَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said in the Battle of Khaybar, "Whoever eats from this tree, meaning garlic, should not come to the mosques."

  37. Sunan ad-Darimi 2098Sahih

    نَزَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّفْنَا لَهُ طَعَامًا فِيهِ شَيْءٌ مِنْ بَعْضِ هَذِهِ الْبُقُولِ فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَا بِهِ كَرِهَهُ وَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ «كُلُوا فَإِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ أُوذِيَ صَاحِبِي»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down to us, and we went to some trouble to prepare food for him containing some of these herbs. When we brought it, he disliked it and said to his companions: 'Eat, for I am not like any of you; I fear that I may offend my companion.'

  38. Sunan ad-Darimi 2099Sahih

    كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى فَقَدَّمَ طَعَامُهُ فَقُدِّمَ فِي طَعَامِهِ لَحْمُ دَجَاجٍ وَفِي الْقَوْمِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللَّهِ أَحْمَرُ فَلَمْ يَدْنُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو مُوسَى «ادْنُ فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ»

    ✧ We were with Abu Musa when his food was served, and among his food was chicken meat. In the group was a man from Banu Taym Allah who was reddish in complexion, and he kept away. Abu Musa said to him: 'Come close, for I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eat from it.'

  39. Sunan ad-Darimi 2100Sahih

    ذَكَرَ الدَّجَاجَ فَقَالَ «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْكُلُهُ»

    Why do you put on the lower garment in this way? He replied: It is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4096)

  40. Sunan ad-Darimi 2101Sahih

    «لَا تَصْحَبْ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنًا وَلَا يَأْكُلْ طَعَامَكَ إِلَّا تَقِيٌّ»

    ✧ Do not keep company except with a believer, and let no one eat your food except a pious person.

  41. Sunan ad-Darimi 2102Sahih

    رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَأْكُلُ الْقِثَّاءَ بِالرُّطَبِ»

    ✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eating cucumber with fresh dates.

    كُنَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَأَصَابَتْنَا سَنَةٌ فَكَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ يَرْزُقُ التَّمْرَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَمُرُّ بِنَا وَيَقُولُ لَا تُقَارِنُوا «فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْقِرَانِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ»

    ✧ We were in Madinah when a year of famine struck us, and Ibn al-Zubayr was distributing dates as provision. Ibn Umar would pass by us and say: 'Do not pair dates together, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade pairing unless a man seeks permission from his brother.'

    ✧ Whoever sleeps with the smell of grease on his hand and something happens to him should blame no one but himself.

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَرَأَى عَلَيْهِ وَضَرًا مِنْ صُفْرَةٍ «مَهْيَمْ؟» قَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ قَالَ «أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, seeing on him a trace of yellow, “Mahyam?” He said, “I have married.” He said, “Hold a walimah, even if with a sheep.”

    ✧ “The walimah on the first day is a right, the second is a kindness, and the third is fame and showing off.”

    «شَرُّ الطَّعَامِ طَعَامُ الْوَلِيمَةِ يُدْعَى إِلَيْهِ الْأَغْنِيَاءُ وَيُتْرَكُ الْمَسَاكِينُ وَمَنْ تَرَكَ الدَّعْوَةَ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ»

    ✧ “The worst food is the food of a walimah to which the rich are invited and the poor are left out. Whoever abandons the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.”

    جَاءَ رَجُلٌ قَدْ صَنَعَ طَعَامًا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ هَكَذَا وَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ بِيَدِهِ قَالَ يَقُولُ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «هَكَذَا» وَأَشَارَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ قَالَ لَا فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ الثَّانِيَةَ وَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «وَهَذِهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ فَانْطَلَقَ مَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَعَائِشَةُ فَأَكَلَا مِنْ طَعَامِهِ

    ✧ A man came who had prepared food to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, like this,” and he gestured to him with his hand. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Like this,” and he pointed to ʿĀʾishah. He said, “No.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him. Then he gestured to him a second time, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him. Then he gestured to him a third time, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “And this one?” He said, “Yes.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went with him along with ʿĀʾishah, and they both ate from his food.

    كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامًا أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ قَالَ فَدَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنَا خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَهَذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ تَبِعَنِي فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ تَرَكْتَهُ» قَالَ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ

    ✧ There was a man called Abū Shuʿayb, and he had a slave boy who was a butcher. He said, “Prepare for me some food so that I may invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the fifth of five.” He said: He invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the fifth of five, and a man followed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “You invited us as the fifth of five, and this man has followed me. If you wish, you may permit him, and if you wish, you may leave him.” He said: So he permitted him.

    ✧ “The excellence of ʿĀʾishah over women is like the excellence of tharīd over all other food.”

    زَوَّجَنِي أَبِي فِي إِمَارَةِ عُثْمَانَ فَدَعَا رَهْطًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ فِيمَنْ دَعَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «انْهَسُوا اللَّحْمَ نَهْسًا فَإِنَّهُ أَشْهَى وَأَمْرَأُ»

    ✧ My father married me off during the emirate of ʿUthmān, and he invited a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Among those he invited was Ṣafwān b. Umayyah, who was a very old man. He said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Bite the meat with a proper bite, for it is more appetizing and more wholesome.’”

    كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِالْبَاكُورَةِ بِأَوَّلِ الثَّمَرَةِ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا وَفِي ثَمَرَتِنَا وَفِي مُدِّنَا وَفِي صَاعِنَا بَرَكَةً مَعَ بَرَكَةٍ» ثُمَّ يُعْطِيهِ أَصْغَرَ مَنْ يَحْضُرُهُ مِنَ الْوِلْدَانِ

    ✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought the first fruits, he would say, “O Allah, bless us in our Madinah, in our fruits, in our mudd, and in our ṣāʿ, blessing upon blessing.” Then he would give it to the youngest child present.

    «إِذَا جَاءَ خَادِمُ أَحَدِكُمْ بِالطَّعَامِ فَلْيُجْلِسْهُ فَإِنْ أَبَى فَلْيُنَاوِلْهُ»

    ✧ “When the servant of one of you brings the food, let him seat him; if he refuses, let him hand it to him.”

    «إِذَا أَتَى أَحَدَكُمْ خَادِمُهُ بِطَعَامٍ فَلْيُجْلِسْهُ مَعَهُ أَوْ َلْيُنَاوِلْهُ لُقْمَةً أَوْ لُقْمَتَيْنِ أَوْ أُكْلَةً أَوْ أُكْلَتَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُ وَلِيَ حَرَّهُ وَدُخَانَهُ»

    ✧ “When one of you’s servant brings him food, let him seat him with him or hand him a morsel or two morsels or a bite or two bites, for he has endured its heat and its smoke.”

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ came out from relieving himself, and food was presented to him. It was said to him, “Will you not perform ablution?” He said, “Should I pray, and then perform ablution?”

    «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَجْنَبَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ»

    ✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he was in a state of major ritual impurity and wanted to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution.”

    أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِذَا طَبَخْتَ مَرَقَةً فَأَكْثِرْ مَاءَهَا ثُمَّ انْظُرْ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ مِنْ جِِيرَانِكََ فَاغْرِفْ لَهُمْ مِنْهَا»

    ✧ My close friend ﷺ advised me, saying, “When you cook broth, increase its water, then look for a household among your neighbors and ladle out some for them.”

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the food is served, remove your shoes, for it is better for your feet."

    «اعْبُدُوا الرَّحْمَنَ وَأَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ تَدْخُلُوا الْجِنَانَ»

    ✧ “Worship the Most Merciful, spread peace, and feed food, and you will enter the gardens.”

    «أَجِيبُوا الدَّاعِيَ إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ» قَالَ وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَأْتِي الدَّعْوَةَ فِي الْعُرْسِ وَفِي غَيْرِ الْعُرْسِ وَيَأْتِيهَا وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ

    ✧ “Answer the caller when you are invited.” He said: And 'Abdullah would attend the invitation at a wedding and at other than a wedding, and he would attend it while fasting.

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about a mouse that fell into clarified butter. He said, “Throw it away and what is around it, and eat.”

    سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْ فَأْرَةٍ وَقَعَتْ فِي سَمْنٍ فَمَاتَتْ فَقَالَ «خُذُوهَا وَمَا حَوْلَهَا فَاطْرَحُوهُ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a mouse that fell into clarified butter and died. He said, “Take it and what is around it, and discard it.”

    حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد «إِذَا كَانَ ذَائِبًا أُهَرِيقَ»

    ✧ Zayd b. Yahya narrated to us: Malik narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Ubayd Allah b. 'Abd Allah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from Maymunah, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly. Abu Muhammad said, “If it is liquid, it is poured out.”

  71. Sunan ad-Darimi 2132Hasan

    «مَنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَتَخَلَّلْ فَمَا تَخَلَّلَ فَلْيَلْفِظْهُ وَمَا لَاكَ بِلِسَانِهِ فَلْيَبْتَلِعْ»

    ✧ “Whoever eats should use a toothpick, and what he picks out he should spit out, and what he chews with his tongue he should swallow.”
