✧ Maʿqil b. Yasār was eating lunch when his morsel fell. He took it, removed whatever dirt was on it, then ate it. Those village chiefs began winking at one another about him, and they said to him, “Do you not see what these non-Arabs are saying? They say, ‘Look at the food in front of him and what he does with this morsel!’” He said, “I will not abandon what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ because of the words of these non-Arabs. We were commanded, when a morsel of one of us fell, to remove whatever dirt was on it and to eat it.”
