✧ There was a man called Abū Shuʿayb, and he had a slave boy who was a butcher. He said, “Prepare for me some food so that I may invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the fifth of five.” He said: He invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the fifth of five, and a man followed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “You invited us as the fifth of five, and this man has followed me. If you wish, you may permit him, and if you wish, you may leave him.” He said: So he permitted him.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationShuʿbah narrated it from al-Aʿmash, from Shaqīq, from Abū Masʿūd in the same way. Ibn Numayr contradicted him, (narrating) from al-Aʿmash, from Shaqīq, from Abū Masʿūd, from a man of the Anṣār called Abū Shuʿayb, so it became a report transmitted on the authority of Abū Shuʿayb. The view closer to correct is that of the one who transmitted it with a connected chain from Abū Masʿūd.
