كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ وَجَارِيَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لَهَا، فَنَظَرَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ خَلْفَهَا وَقَدْ تَضَايَقَ بِهِمُ الْجَبَلُ، فَقَالَتْ: حَلٍ حَلْ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ - تَعْنِي لِبَعِيرِهَا - فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ صَاحِبُ هَذَا الْبَعِيرِ أَوِ الرَّاحِلَةِ، فَلَا يَصْحَبُنَا بَعِيرٌ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ اللهِ لَعْنَةٌ
✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and a girl from the Ansar was on a camel of hers. She looked at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ behind her and the mountain had become narrow for them, so she said: 'Hal! Hal! May the curse of Allah be upon you'—meaning her camel. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Who is the owner of this camel, or this mount? No camel carrying the curse of Allah should accompany us.'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ فَأَفَاءَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: " هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ " فِي الثَّانِي وَالثَّالِثِ، قَالُوا: لَا، قَالَ: لَكِنِّي أَفْقِدُ جُلَيْبِيبًا انْطَلِقُوا فَالْتَمِسُوهُ فِي الْقَتْلَى، فَالْتَمَسُوهُ فَوَجَدُوهُ إِلَى جَنْبِ سَبْعَةٍ قَدْ قَتَلَهُمْ، ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأُخْبِرَ، فَجَاءَ حَتَّى قَامَ، فَقَالَ: " هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ قَتَلَ سَبْعَةً، هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ " يَقُولُهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ حَمَلَهُ عَلَى سَاعِدَيْهِ مَا لَهُ سَرِيرٌ غَيْرَ سَاعِدَيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حَتَّى حُفِرَ لَهُ وَدُفِنَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ غُسْلًا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met the enemy and Allah granted him spoils. He said: 'Do you miss anyone?' They said: 'Yes, so-and-so and so-and-so.' Then he said: 'Do you miss anyone?' a second and third time. They said: 'No.' He said: 'But I miss Julaybib. Go and look for him among the slain.' They looked for him and found him beside seven whom he had killed, and then they killed him. The Prophet ﷺ was informed, so he came and stood over him and said: 'This one is from me and I am from him. He killed seven. This one is from me and I am from him'—he said it twice. Then he carried him on his forearms, with no bier except the forearms of the Prophet ﷺ, until a grave was dug for him and he was buried, and he did not mention washing him.

كُنْتُ أَتَمَنَّى أَنْ أَلْقَى رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الْخَوَارِجِ، فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا بَرْزَةَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِأُذُنِي وَرَأَيْتُهُ بِعَيْنِي أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَالٍ فَأَعْطَى مَنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمَنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ، وَلَمْ يُعْطِ مَنْ وَرَاءَهُ شَيْئًا، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، وَاللهِ مَا عَدَلْتَ فِيَّ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمِ، وَكَانَ رَجُلًا أَسْوَدَ مَطْمُومَ الشَّعَرِ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَبْيَضَانِ، قَالَ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَضَبًا شَدِيدًا، وَقَالَ: اللهِ لَا تَجِدُونَ بَعْدِي رَجُلًا هُوَ أَعْدَلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنِّي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " يَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ كَأَنَّ هَذَا مِنْهُمْ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحْلِيقُ، لَا يَزَالُونَ يَخْرُجُونَ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ آخِرُهُمْ مَعَ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ، شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ
✧ I wished to meet a man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ to ask him about the Khawarij. I met Abu Barzah on a day of 'Id among a group of his companions. I said to him: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with my own ears and saw him with my own eyes. Wealth was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave to those on his right and those on his left, but did not give those behind him anything. A man from behind him stood up and said: 'O Muhammad, by Allah, you have not been just to me today.' He was a black man with shaved hair, wearing two white garments. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became very angry and said: 'By Allah, you will not find after me a man more just to you than me.' Then he said: 'In the last days, there will come a people, as if this man is from among them. They recite the Qur'an but it does not go beyond their collarbones. They pass through Islam as an arrow passes through its target. Their mark is shaving. They will keep emerging until the last of them comes out with the false Messiah, the Dajjal. So when you meet them, kill them. They are the worst of creation and creatures.'

✧ Hisham b. Hassan narrated to us, from Jamil b. Murrah, from Abu al-Wadi', from Abu Barzah, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.

✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me something from which I may benefit. He said: 'Remove harmful things from the path of the Muslims.'

" إِنَّ لِي حَوْضًا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْلَةَ وَصَنْعَاءَ عَرْضُهُ كَطُولِهِ، يَعُبُّ فِي مِيزَابَانِ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ أَحَدُهُمَا مِنْ وَرِقٍ، وَالْآخَرُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، وَأَبْيَضُ مِنَ اللَّبَنِ، وَأَحْلَى مِنَ الْعَسَلِ، وَأَبْرَدُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ، فِيهِ آنِيَةٌ عَدَدُ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ، مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ شَرْبَةً لَمْ يَظْمَأْ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ
✧ I have a cistern between Aylah and Sana'a, its width like its length. Two spouts from Paradise pour into it, one of silver and the other of gold. Its water is whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, and colder than snow. In it are vessels as numerous as the stars of the sky. Whoever drinks a drink from it will never thirst until he enters Paradise.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ رَجُلًا إِلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ أَحْيَاءِ الْعَرَبِ، فَسَبُّوهُ وَضَرَبُوهُ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ، فَقَالَ: لَوْ أَهْلَ عُمَانَ أَتَيْتَ إِذًا مَا ضَرَبُوكَ وَلَا سَبُّوكَ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a man to a tribe among the Arab tribes. They reviled him and beat him. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said: 'If you had come to the people of Oman, they would not have beaten you or reviled you.'

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا جَلَسَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ، قَالَ: " سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ " قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّكَ لَتَقُولُ كَلَامًا مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُهُ فِيمَا خَلَا، فَقَالَ: " هَذَا كَفَّارَةُ مَا يَكُونُ مِنَ الْمَجْلِسِ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ, when he sat and wanted to get up, would say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, you are saying words that you did not use to say before." He said: "This is an expiation for what occurs in the gathering."

نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ. 4501 - وَحَدِيثُ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَحَسَبُ وَهِمَ فِيهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، وَالصَّوَابُ: خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ، وَأَبُو الْمِنْهَالِ اسْمُهُ سَيَّارُ بْنُ سَلَامَةَ
✧ Muhammad b. Ja'far narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu al-Minhal, from Abu Barzah, from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. And the hadith of Khalid al-Hadhdha', from al-Mughirah b. Abi Barzah, from his father, I think 'Uthman b. 'Uthman erred in it, and the correct version is: Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu al-Minhal, from Abu Barzah. Abu al-Minhal's name is Sayyar b. Salamah.

" الْأُمَرَاءُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، وَلِي عَلَيْهِمْ حَقٌّ، وَلَهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَقٌّ مَا فَعَلُوا ثَلَاثًا: مَا اسْتُرْحِمُوا فَرَحِمُوا، وَحَكَمُوا فَعَدَلُوا، وَعَاهَدُوا فَوَفَوْا، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُمْ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ
✧ "The rulers are from Quraysh. I have a right over them, and they have a right over you as long as they do three things: when mercy is sought from them, they show mercy; when they judge, they are just; and when they make a covenant, they fulfill it. Whoever among them does not do that, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people."

✧ Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Ali b. Zayd, from al-Mughirah b. Abi Barzah, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. We do not know this hadith to be narrated from Abu Barzah except through this route, and we do not know anyone who narrated it from 'Ali b. Zayd except Shu'bah.

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا بَرْزَةَ وَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الْحَوْضِ، قَالَ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ دَخَلَ مَعَهُ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا رَآهُ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: إِنَّ مُحَمَّدِيَّكُمْ هَذَا لَدَحْدَاحٌ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا سَمِعَهَا أَبُو بَرْزَةَ، قَالَ: مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنْ أَعِيشَ حَتَّى أُعَيَّرَ بِصُحْبَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ: إِنَّكَ لَا تُعَيَّرُ بِذَلِكَ، قَالَ: وَسَأَلَهُ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَوْضِ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ لِي حَوْضًا فَمَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهِ لَا أَوْرَدَهُ اللهُ. يَعْنِي إِيَّاهُ
✧ I saw Abu Barzah when Ibn Ziyad sent for him asking him about the Hawd (the Pond). He said: Someone who entered with him informed me. He said: When Ibn Ziyad saw him, he said: "This Muhammadan of yours is short and stout." When Abu Barzah heard it, he said: "I never thought I would live to be reproached for the companionship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: It was said to him: "You are not reproached for that." He said: Ibn Ziyad asked him about the Hawd, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say - I think he said: "I will have a pond; whoever denies it, may Allah not let him reach it," meaning it.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَظَرَ إِلَى رَجُلَيْنِ فِي أُحُدٍ يَتَمَثَّلَانِ شِعْرًا فِي حَمْزَةَ: تَرَكْتَ حَوَرِيًّا تَلُوحُ عِظَامُهُ زَوَى الْحَرْبَ عَنْهُ أَنْ يُجَنَّ فَيُقْبَرَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اللَّهُمَّ ارْكُسْهُمَا فِي الْفِتْنَةِ رَكْسًا وَادْعُهُمْ إِلَى الْعَذَابِ دَعًّا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at two men at Uhud who were reciting poetry about Hamzah: "You left a companion whose bones gleam; war turned away from him so that he could be buried." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Allah, topple them headlong into dissension and drive them harshly to the punishment."

غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا، حَتَّى عَدَّ ثَمَانَ غَزَوَاتٍ فَمَا رَأَيْنَا مِنْهُ إِلَّا التَّيْسِيرَ وَالتَّخْفِيفَ
✧ I went on such-and-such a military expedition with the Messenger of God ﷺ—until he counted eight expeditions—and we saw nothing from him but ease and lightening (of burdens).
