إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكُونُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ وَالْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ وَالْجِهَادِ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ سِهَامَ الْخَيْرِ، وَمَا يُجْزَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَّا بِقَدْرِ عَقْلِهِ
✧ A man may be among the people of prayer, zakāh, ḥajj, ʿumrah, and jihād—until he mentioned the shares of good—and on the Day of Resurrection he will be recompensed only according to the measure of his intellect.

نَضَّرَ اللهُ عَبْدًا سَمِعَ مَقَالَتِي فَوَعَاهَا وَحَفِظَهَا، فَرُبَّ حَامِلِ عِلْمٍ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ مِنْهُ ثَلَاثٌ لَا يُغِلُّ عَلَيْهِنَّ الْقَلْبُ: إِخْلَاصُ الْعَمَلِ لِلهِ، وَمُنَاصَحَةُ الْوُلَاةِ، وَلُزُومُ الْجَمَاعَةِ
✧ May Allah brighten the face of a servant who hears my words, understands them, and memorizes them. For perhaps a bearer of knowledge carries it to one more knowledgeable than himself. Three things upon which the heart does not bear malice: sincerity of action for Allah, sincere counsel to the rulers, and adherence to the community.

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي لَأَذْبَحُ الشَّاةَ وَأَنَا أَرْحَمُهَا، فَقَالَ: وَالشَّاةُ إِنْ رَحِمْتَهَا يَرْحَمْكَ اللهُ
✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, I slaughter a sheep while I feel compassion for it. He said: And the sheep—if you have mercy on it, Allah will have mercy on you.

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَحْرَقَنِي لِسَانِي. قَالَ: فَأَيْنَ أَنْتَ عَنِ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ ؟ إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ
✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, my tongue has burned me. He said: Where are you from seeking forgiveness? I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance one hundred times a day.

✧ Does not the one who raises his head before the imam fear that Allah will turn his head into the head of a donkey?

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْبَلَاءَ، وَمَا أَعَدَّ اللهُ لِصَاحِبِهِ مِنْ جَزِيلِ الثَّوَابِ إِذَا هُوَ صَبَرَ، وَذَكَرَ الْعَافِيَةَ، وَمَا أَعَدَّ اللهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - لِصَاحِبِهَا مِنْ جَزِيلِ الثَّوَابِ إِذَا هُوَ شَكَرَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَئِنْ أُعَافَى فَأَشْكُرَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُبْتَلَى فَأَصْبِرَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَرَسُولُ اللهِ يُحِبُّ مَعَكَ الْعَافِيَةَ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned affliction and the abundant reward Allah has prepared for its bearer if he is patient, and he mentioned well-being and the abundant reward Allah—Mighty and Majestic—has prepared for its bearer if he is grateful. I said: O Messenger of Allah, if I am given well-being and I am grateful, that is more beloved to me than being afflicted and being patient. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: And the Messenger of Allah loves well-being along with you.

تَعَاهَدُوا الْقُرْآنَ، فَلَهُوَ أَشَدُّ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ نَوَازِعِ الطَّيْرِ إِلَى أَوْطَانِهَا
✧ Keep reciting the Qur'an, for it slips away more swiftly than birds fly to their nests.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَجْلِسُ بَعْدَمَا يُسَلِّمُ حَتَّى يَقُولَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would sit after saying the taslim until he said: O Allah, You are Peace, and from You is peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ: كَتَبَ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ: مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللهِ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ: أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا، فَمَا قَرَأَهُ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ، فَهُمْ يُسَمَّوْنَ بَنِي الْكَاتِبِ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to Bakr b. Wa'il: From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Bakr b. Wa'il: Submit and you will be safe. No one read it except a man from Banu Dubay'ah, so they are called Banu al-Katib.

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيِ الْعَشِيِّ: الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ: أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ فَقَالَ: بَلْ نَسِيتُ، فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in one of the two evening prayers—Zuhr or 'Asr—and he gave the salam after two rak'ahs. A man called Dhu al-Yadayn said to him: Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget? He said: Rather I forgot. So he stood and prayed the two rak'ahs, then prostrated two prostrations while sitting, then gave the salam.

بَنُو آدَمَ عَلَى طَبَقَاتٍ شَتَّى: مِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُولَدُ مُؤْمِنًا، وَيَحْيَى مُؤْمِنًا، وَيَمُوتُ مُؤْمِنًا، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُولَدُ كَافِرًا، وَيَحْيَى كَافِرًا، وَيَمُوتُ كَافِرًا، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُولَدُ كَافِرًا، وَيَحْيَى كَافِرًا، وَيَمُوتُ مُؤْمِنًا
✧ The children of Adam are on varying tiers: among them is one who is born a believer, lives as a believer, and dies as a believer; among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, and dies as a disbeliever; and among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, and dies as a believer.
