   «مَا تَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دِينَارًا وَلَا دِرْهَمًا وَلَا عَبْدًا وَلَا أَمَةً إِلَّا بَغْلَتَهُ الشَّهْبَاءَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَرْكَبُهَا وَسِلَاحَهُ وَأَرْضًا جَعَلَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ» وَقَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى «صَدَقَةً»

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left behind neither a dinar nor a dirham, nor a male slave nor a female slave, except his gray mule which he used to ride, his weapons, and a piece of land which he made in the way of Allah. And Qutaybah said another time: as charity.

   أَصَبْتُ أَرْضًا مِنْ أَرْضِ خَيْبَرَ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ أَصَبْتُ أَرْضًا لَمْ أُصِبْ مَالًا أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ وَلَا أَنْفَسَ عِنْدِي مِنْهَا قَالَ «إِنْ شِئْتَ تَصَدَّقْتَ بِهَا» فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا عَلَى أَلَّا تُبَاعَ وَلَا تُوهَبَ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ وَذِي الْقُرْبَى وَالرِّقَابِ وَالضَّيْفِ وَابنِ السَّبِيلِ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَى مَنْ وَلِيَهَا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ غَيْرَ مُتَمَوِّلٍ مَالًا وَيُطْعِمَ 6392 أَخْبَرَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَزَّارُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيِّ عَنْ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ

   ✧ I acquired a piece of land from the land of Khaybar, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'I have acquired a piece of land, and I have never acquired wealth more beloved to me or more precious in my sight than it.' He said: 'If you wish, you may give it as charity.' So he gave it as charity on the condition that it not be sold or gifted, for the poor, the relatives, the slaves, the guest, and the wayfarer. There is no blame on the one who administers it to eat from it in a reasonable manner, without accumulating wealth, and to feed others. [6392] Harun b. Abd Allah al-Bazzar informed me; he said: Muawiyah b. Amr narrated to us from Abu Ishaq al-Fazari, from b. Awn, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ, a similar report.

   أَصَابَ عُمَرُ أَرْضًا بِخَيْبَرَ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَصَبْتُ أَرْضًا لَمْ أُصِبْ مَالًا قَطُّ أَنْفَسَ عِنْدِي مِنْهُ فَكَيْفَ تَأْمُرُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ «إِنْ شِئْتَ حَبَّسْتَ أَصْلَهَا وَتَصَدَّقْتَ بِهَا» فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا عُمَرُ أَنَّهُ لَا يُبَاعَ أَصْلُهَا وَلَا يُوهَبَ وَلَا يُورَثَ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ أَوِ الْقُرْبَى وَالرِّقَابِ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَالضَّيْفِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَى مَنْ وَلِيَهَا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيُطْعِمَ صَدِيقًا غَيْرَ مُتَمَوِّلٍ فِيهِ

   ✧ Umar acquired land at Khaybar. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have acquired land such that I have never acquired property more precious to me than it, so how do you command me regarding it?" He said, "If you wish, you may hold back its principal and give it in charity." So Umar gave it in charity on condition that its principal not be sold, given as a gift, or inherited—for the poor, the relatives, the freeing of slaves, in the cause of God, for the guest, and the wayfarer.    ✧ Umar acquired land at Khaybar. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and sought his counsel regarding it, saying, "I have acquired land at Khaybar such that I have never acquired property more precious to me than it, so what do you command regarding it?" He said, "If you wish, you may hold back its principal and give it in charity." So he gave it in charity on condition that its principal not be sold, given as a gift, or inherited. He gave it in charity for the poor, the relatives, the freeing of slaves, in the cause of God, the wayfarer, and the guest—there is no blame..." Then the transmission was cut off for Abu Mu'awiyah: "or to feed a friend, without enriching himself." The wording is that of Isma'il.

   أَنَّ عُمَرَ أَصَابَ أَرْضًا بِخَيْبَرَ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَسْتَأْمِرُهُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «إِنْ شِئْتَ حَبَّسْتَ أَصْلَهَا وَتَصَدَّقْتَ بِهَا» فَحَبَّسَ أَصْلَهَا أَنْ لَا يُبَاعَ وَلَا يُوهَبَ وَلَا يُورَثَ فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا عَلَى الْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْقُرْبَى وَالرِّقَابِ وَفِي الْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ وَالضَّيْفِ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَى مَنْ وَلِيَهَا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ أَوْ يُطْعِمَ صَدِيقَهُ غَيْرَ مُتَمَوِّلٍ فِيهِ

   ✧ That Umar acquired land at Khaybar. He came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking his counsel regarding that. He said, "If you wish, hold back its principal and give it in charity." So he held back its principal, on condition that it not be sold, given as a gift, or inherited. He gave it in charity for the poor, the relatives, the freeing of slaves, for the needy, the wayfarer, and the guest.    لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ} [آل عمران 92] قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أَرَى رَبَّنَا يَسْأَلُنَا مِنْ أَمْوَالِنَا فَأُشْهِدُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنِّي قَدْ جَعَلْتُ أَرْضِي لِلَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اجْعَلْهَا فِي قَرَابَتِكَ فِي حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ»

   ✧ When this verse was revealed: {You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love} [Al 'Imran: 92], Abu Talha said, "I see that our Lord is asking us from our wealth, so I call you to witness, O Messenger of God, that I have made my land for God." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Place it among your relatives—Hassan b. Thabit and Ubayy b. Ka'b."

   قَالَ عُمَرُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ الْمِائَةَ سَهْمٍ الَّتِي لِي بِخَيْبَرَ لَمْ أُصِبْ مَالًا قَطُّ هُوَ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيَّ مِنْهَا قَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «احْبِسْ أَصْلَهَا وَسَبِّلْ ثَمَرَتَهَا»

   ✧ Umar said to the Prophet ﷺ, "The hundred shares that I have at Khaybar—I have never acquired property more beloved to me than them. I have wanted to give them in charity." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Hold back their principal and devote their fruit."

    جَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ مَالًا لَمْ أُصِبْ مِثْلَهُ قَطُّ كَانَ لِي مِائَةُ رَأْسٍ فَاشْتَرَيْتُ بِهَا مِائَةَ سَهْمٍ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا وَإِنِّي قَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَقَرَّبَ بِهَا إِلَى اللهِ تَعَالَى قَالَ «فَاحْبِسْ أَصْلَهَا وَسَبِّلِ الثَّمَرَةَ»

    ✧ Umar came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of God, I have acquired property such as I have never acquired the like of. I had one hundred head, and I bought with them one hundred shares from Khaybar from its people. I want to draw near to God Almighty with them." He said, "Hold back their principal and devote the fruit."

    سَمِعْتُ الْأَحْنَفَ يَقُولُ أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا حَاجٌّ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ فِي مَنَازِلِنَا نَضَعُ رِحَالَنَا إِذْ أَتَانَا آتٍ فَقَالَ قَدِ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَإِذَا النَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ وَإِذَا بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِهِمْ نَفَرٌ قُعُودٌ فَإِذَا هُوَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَالزُّبَيْرُ وَطَلْحَةُ وَسَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ قِيلَ هَذَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ قَدْ جَاءَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ وَعَلَيْهِ مُلَيَّةٌ صَفْرَاءُ قُلْتُ لِصَاحِبِي كَمَا أَنْتَ حَتَّى أَنْظُرَ مَا جَاءَ بِهِ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ أَهَاهُنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ؟ أَهَاهُنَا الزُّبَيْرُ؟ أَهَاهُنَا طَلْحَةُ؟ أَهَاهُنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ مِرْبَدَ بَنِي فُلَانٍ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ» فَابْتَعْتُهُ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي ابْتَعْتُ مِرْبَدَ بَنِي فُلَانٍ قَالَ «فَاجْعَلْهُ فِي مَسْجِدِنَا وَأَجْرُهُ لَكَ»؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ بِئْرَ رُومَةَ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ» فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ قَدِ ابْتَعْتُ بِئْرَ رُومَةَ قَالَ «فَاجْعَلْهَا سِقَايَةً لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَأَجْرُهَا لَكَ»؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يُجَهِّزْ جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ» فَجَهَّزْتُهُمْ حَتَّى مَا يَفْقِدُونَ عِقَالًا وَلَا خِطَامًا؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ

    ✧ I heard al-Ahnaf saying: I came to Madinah while I was a pilgrim. While we were in our lodgings, setting down our baggage, someone came to us and said, "The people have gathered in the mosque." I went and found the people gathered, and among them a small group seated. There were 'Ali b. Abi Talib, al-Zubayr, Talha, and Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. I stood by them. It was said, "This is 'Uthman b. 'Affan, he has come." He came wearing a yellow cloak. I said to my companion, "Stay put until I see what he brings." 'Uthman said, "Is 'Ali b. Abi Talib here? Is al-Zubayr here? Is Talha here? Is Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas here?" They said, "Yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever buys the camel pen of Banu so-and-so, God will forgive him'? So I bought it and came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, 'I have bought the camel pen of Banu so-and-so.' He said, 'Make it part of our mosque, and its reward is yours.'" They said, "Yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever buys the well of Rumah, God will forgive him'? So I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, 'I have bought the well of Rumah.' He said, 'Make it a drinking place for the Muslims, and its reward is yours.'" They said, "Yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever equips the army of hardship, God will forgive him'? So I equipped them until they were not missing even a hobble-cord or a nose-rein." They said, "Yes." He said, "O God, bear witness. O God, bear witness. O God, bear witness."

    خَرَجْنَا حُجَّاجًا فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَنَحْنُ نُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ فِي مَنَازِلِنَا نَضَعُ رِحَالَنَا إِذْ أَتَانَا آتٍ قَالَ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدِ اجْتَمَعُوا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَفَزِعُوا فَانْطَلَقْنَا وَإِذَا النَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ عَلَى نَفَرٍ فِي وَسَطِ الْمَسْجِدِ وَإِذَا عَلِيٌّ وَالزُّبَيْرُ وَطَلْحَةُ وَسَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَإِنَّا لَكَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ عَلَيْهِ مُلَاءٌ صَفْرَاءُ قَدْ قَنَّعَ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ هَاهُنَا عَلِيٌّ؟ أَهَاهُنَا طَلْحَةُ أَهَاهُنَا الزُّبَيْرُ؟ أَهَاهُنَا سَعْدٌ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ مِرْبَدَ بَنِي فُلَانٍ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ» فَابْتَعْتُهُ بِعِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا أَوْ بِخَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «اجْعَلْهُ فِي مَسْجِدِنَا وَأَجْرُهُ لَكَ»؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ بِئْرَ رُومَةَ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ» فَابْتَعْتُهُ بِكَذَا وَكَذَا فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ قَدِ ابْتَعْتَهَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ «اجْعَلْهَا سِقَايَةً لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَأَجْرُهَا لَكَ»؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَظَرَ فِي وُجُوهِ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ مَنْ جَهَّزَ هَؤُلَاءِ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ يَعْنِي جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ فَجَهَّزْتُهُمْ حَتَّى لَمْ يَفْقِدُوا عِقَالًا وَلَا خِطَامًا؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ

    ✧ We set out as pilgrims and arrived in Madinah intending the Hajj. While we were in our lodgings, setting down our baggage, someone came to us and said, "The people have gathered in the mosque and are alarmed." We went and found the people gathered around a group in the middle of the mosque. There were 'Ali, al-Zubayr, Talha, and Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. As we were thus, 'Uthman b. 'Affan came wearing a yellow cloak, having wrapped it over his head. He said, "Is 'Ali here? Is Talha here? Is al-Zubayr here? Is Sa'd here?" They said, "Yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever buys the camel pen of Banu so-and-so, God will forgive him'? So I bought it for twenty thousand or twenty-five thousand and came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and informed him. He said, 'Make it part of our mosque, and its reward is yours.'" They said, "O God, yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever buys the well of Rumah, God will forgive him'? So I bought it for such and such and came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, 'I have bought it for such and such.' He said, 'Make it a drinking place for the Muslims, and its reward is yours.'" They said, "O God, yes." He said, "I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no deity: do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ looked at the faces of the people and said, 'Whoever equips these—meaning the army of hardship—God will forgive him'? So I equipped them until they were not missing even a hobble-cord or a nose-rein." They said, "O God, yes." He said, "O God, bear witness. O God, bear witness."

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَلَيْسَ بِهَا مَاءٌ يُسْتَعْذَبُ غَيْرَ بِئْرِ رُومَةَ فَقَالَ «مَنْ يَشْتَرِي بِئْرَ رُومَةَ فَيَجْعَلُ فِيهَا دَلْوَهُ مَعَ دِلَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِخَيْرٍ لَهُ مِنْهَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ» فَاشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْ صُلْبِ مَالِي فَجَعَلْتُ فِيهَا دَلْوِي مَعَ دِلَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَأَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ تَمْنَعُونِي مِنَ الشُّرْبِ مِنْهَا حَتَّى أَشْرَبَ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَالْإِسْلَامِ هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي جَهَّزْتُ جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ مِنْ مَالِي؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللهِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ الْمَسْجِدَ ضَاقَ بِأَهْلِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يَشْتَرِي بُقْعَةَ آلِ فُلَانٍ فَيَزِيدُهَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ بِخَيْرٍ لَهُ مِنْهَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ» فَاشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْ صُلْبِ مَالِي فَزِدْتُهَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَمْنَعُونِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللهَ وَالْإِسْلَامَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ عَلَى ثَبِيرٍ ثَبِيرِ مَكَّةَ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَأَنَا فَتَحَرَّكَ الْجَبَلُ فَرَكَضَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِرِجْلِهِ وَقَالَ «اسْكُنْ ثَبِيرُ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ نَبِيٌّ وَصِدِّيقٌ وَشَهِيدَانِ» قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ شَهِدُوا لِي وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ يَعْنِي أَنِّي شَهِيدٌ

    "I was present at the house when 'Uthman looked out over them and said: 'I adjure you by Allah and by Islam, are you aware that when the Messenger of Allah came to Al-Madinah, and it had no water that was considered sweet (suitable for drinking) except the well of Rumah, he said: "Who will buy the well of Rumah and dip his bucket in it alongside the buckets of the Muslims, in return for a better one in Paradise?" and I bought it with my capital and dipped my bucket into it alongside the buckets of the Muslims? Yet today you are preventing me from drinking from it, so that I have to drink salty water.' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'I adjure you by Allah and by Islam, are you aware that I equipped the army of Al-'Usrah (Tabuk) from my own wealth?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'I adjure you by Allah and by Islam, are you aware that when the Masjid became too small for the people and the Messenger of Allah said: Who will buy the plot of the family of so and so and add it to the Masjid, in return for a better plot in Paradise? I bought it with my capital and added it to the Masjid? Yet now you are preventing me from praying two Rak'ahs therein.' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'I adjure you by Allah and by Islam, are you aware that when the Messenger of Allah was atop Thabir -the Thabir in Makkah- and with him were Abu Bakr, 'Umar and myself, the mountain shook, and the Messenger of Allah kicked it with his foot and said: Be still, Thabir, for upon you are a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'Allahu Akbar! They have testified for me, by the Lord of the Ka'bah' -i.e., that I am a martyr." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3608)

    سَمِعَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ الْجَبَلِ حِينَ اهْتَزَّ فَرَكَلَهُ بِرِجْلِهِ وَقَالَ «اسْكُنْ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ أَوْ صِدِّيقٌ أَوْ شَهِيدٌ» وَأَنَا مَعَهُ قَالَ فَانْتَشَدَ لَهُ رِجَالٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُ بِاللهِ رَجُلًا شَهِدَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ بِيعَةِ الرِّضْوَانِ يَقُولُ «هَذِهِ يَدُ اللهِ وَهَذِهِ يَدُ عُثْمَانَ» فَانْتَشَدَ لَهُ رِجَالٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُ بِاللهِ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ جَيْشِ الْعُسْرَةِ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يُنْفِقُ نَفَقَةً مُتَقَبَّلَةً؟» فَجَهَّزْتُ نِصْفَ الْجَيْشِ مِنْ مَالِي فَأَنْشَدَ لَهُ رِجَالٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُ بِاللهِ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يَزِيدُ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ بِبَيْتٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ» فَاشْتَرَيْتُهُ مِنْ مَالِي فَانْتَشَدَ لَهُ رِجَالٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُ بِاللهِ رَجُلًا شَهِدَ رُومَةَ تُبَاعُ فَاشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْ مَالِي فَأَبَحْتُهَا لِابْنِ السَّبِيلِ فَانْتَشَدَ لَهُ رِجَالٌ 6404 أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّلَمِيِّ قَالَ لَمَّا حُصِرَ عُثْمَانُ فِي دَارِهِ وَاجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ حَوْلَ دَارِهِ قَامَ فَأَشْرَفَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ

    ✧ He heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say on the day of the mountain, when it shook and he kicked it with his foot, "Be still, for upon you is none but a prophet, a truthful one, or a martyr," and I was with him. He said, so men testified for him. Then he said, "I adjure by God any man who witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of the pledge of al-Ridwan saying, 'This is the hand of God and this is the hand of 'Uthman.'" So men testified for him. Then he said, "I adjure by God any man who heard the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of the army of hardship saying, 'Who will spend an accepted expenditure?'" So I equipped half the army from my wealth, and men testified for him. Then he said, "I adjure by God any man who heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, 'Whoever adds to this mosque a house in Paradise?'" So I bought it from my wealth, and men testified for him. Then he said, "I adjure by God any man who witnessed Rumah being sold, so I bought it from my wealth and made it available for the wayfarer."
