لَمَّا قُتِلَ عَلِيٌّ قَامَ حَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ خَطِيبًا، فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ، وَاللهِ لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلًا فِي لَيْلَةٍ نَزَلَ فِيهَا الْقُرْآنُ وَفِيهَا رُفِعَ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ وَفِيهَا قُتِلَ يُوشَعُ بْنُ نُونٍ فَتَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
✧ When 'Ali was killed, al-Hasan b. 'Ali stood up as a speaker. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: 'Now then, by Allah, you have killed tonight a man on a night in which the Qur'an was sent down, in which 'Isa son of Maryam was raised up, and in which Yusha' b. Nun, the servant of Musa ﷺ, was killed.'

وَفِيهَا تِيبَ عَلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ. وَقَالَ: وَاللهِ مَا سَبَقَهُ أَحَدٌ كَانَ قَبْلَهُ وَلَا لَحِقَهُ أَحَدٌ كَانَ بَعْدَهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُهُ فِي السَّرِيَّةِ وَجِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، وَاللهِ مَا تَرَكَ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا ثَمَانِمِائَةٍ أَوْ سَبْعَمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ أَرْصَدَهَا لِخَادِمٍ يَشْتَرِيهَا
✧ 'And in it the Children of Israel were forgiven.' And he said: 'By Allah, no one before him surpassed him, and no one after him will reach him. The Prophet ﷺ would send him on a military expedition with Jibril on his right and Mika'il on his left. By Allah, he left neither gold nor silver except seven hundred or eight hundred dirhams, which he had set aside to buy a servant.'

مَا تَحْفَظُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يَدْعُو فِي هَذَا الدُّعَاءِ: اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنَا فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ، وَعَافِنَا فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ، وَتَوَلَّنَا فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَقِنَا شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ، إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ، وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ، تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ
✧ What do you memorize from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: 'I heard him supplicating with this supplication: O Allah, guide us among those You have guided, grant us well-being among those You have granted well-being, take us under Your care among those You have taken under Your care, bless us in what You have given, and protect us from the evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none decrees against You. And none whom You befriend is humiliated. Blessed and exalted are You.'

✧ Pray in your houses and do not make them graves. Do not make my grave a place of festivity. Send blessings upon me and greet me, for your blessings and greetings reach me wherever you are.

وَجَدْتُ تَمْرَةً مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَأَلْقَيْتُهَا فِي فِيَّ، فَأَخَذَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ فِيَّ بِلُعَابِهَا، فَأَلْقَاهَا فِي التَّمْرِ، فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لِمَ أَخَذْتَهَا ؟ قَالَ: لِأَنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لَا تَحِلُّ لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ.
✧ I found a date from the dates of charity and put it in my mouth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it out of my mouth with its saliva and threw it among the dates. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why did you take it?' He said: 'Because charity is not lawful for the family of Muhammad.'

كُنْتُ بَيْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ وَالْحَسَنِ، وَمَرْوَانَ يَتَشَاتَمَانِ، فَجَعَلَ الْحَسَنُ يَكُفُّ الْحُسَيْنَ، فَقَالَ مَرْوَانُ: أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ مَلْعُونُونَ، فَغَضِبَ الْحَسَنُ، فَقَالَ: أَقُلْتَ: أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ مَلْعُونُونَ ؟ فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ لَعَنَكَ اللهُ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ وَأَنْتَ فِي صُلْبِ أَبِيكَ
✧ I was between al-Husayn and al-Hasan while they and Marwan were insulting each other. Al-Hasan began to restrain al-Husayn. Marwan said: 'A cursed household.' Al-Hasan became angry and said: 'Did you say a cursed household? By Allah, Allah cursed you on the tongue of His Prophet ﷺ while you were in your father's loins.'

عَلَّمَنِي جَدِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ فِي قُنُوتِ الْوِتْرِ: اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ، وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ، وَاهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ، وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ، وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ، سُبْحَانَكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ
✧ My grandfather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, taught me words to say in the qunut of the witr: O Allah, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me under Your care among those You have taken under Your care, guide me among those You have guided, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ، وَالْحُسَيْنَ مَرَّ بِهِمَا مَرْوَانُ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا قَوْلًا قَبِيحًا، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ، أَوِ الْحُسَيْنُ: وَاللهِ، ثُمَّ وَاللهِ، لَقَدْ لَعَنَكَ اللهُ وَأَنْتَ فِي صُلْبِ الْحَكَمِ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: فَسَكَتَ مَرْوَانُ
✧ Al-Hasan and al-Husayn passed by Marwan, and he said something vile to them. Al-Hasan—or al-Husayn—said: 'By God, and again by God, God cursed you while you were still in the loins of al-Hakam upon the tongue of His Prophet ﷺ.' He said: Marwan fell silent.

كُنْتُ بِالْكُوفَةِ فَقَامَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ خَطِيبًا فَقَالَ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ رَأَيْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ فِي مَنَامِي عَجَبًا، رَأَيْتُ الرَّبَّ تَعَالَى فَوْقَ عَرْشِهِ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى قَامَ عِنْدَ قَائِمَةٍ مِنْ قَوَائِمِ الْعَرْشِ، فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ عُمَرُ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَكَانَ نَبْذَةً، فَقَالَ: رَبِّ سَلْ عِبَادَكَ فِيمَ قَتَلُونِي ؟ قَالَ: فَانْثَعَبَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مِيزَابَانِ مِنْ دَمٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ، قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لِعَلِيٍّ أَلَا تَرَى مَا يُحَدِّثُ بِهِ الْحَسَنُ، قَالَ: يُحَدِّثُ بِمَا رَأَى
✧ I was in Kufa when al-Hasan b. Ali stood up to give a sermon and said: 'O people, last night I saw something wondrous in my sleep. I saw the Lord, exalted is He, above His Throne. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ came and stood beside one of the supports of the Throne. Then Abu Bakr came and placed his hand on the shoulder of the Messenger of God. Then Umar came and placed his hand on the shoulder of Abu Bakr. Then Uthman came and was a short distance away, and said: "Lord, ask Your servants why they killed me." He said: Then two spouts of blood poured down from the sky to the earth. He said: It was said to Ali: "Do you not see what al-Hasan is relating?" He said: "He relates what he saw."

لَا أُقَاتِلُ بَعْدَ رُؤْيَا رَأَيْتُهَا، رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَاضِعًا يَدَهُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ، وَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَاضِعًا يَدَهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَرَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ وَاضِعًا يَدَهُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَرَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ وَاضِعًا يَدَهُ عَلَى عُمَرَ، وَرَأَيْتُ دِمَاءً دُونَهُمْ، فَقُلْتُ: مَا هَذِهِ الدِّمَاءُ ؟ قِيلَ: دِمَاءُ عُثْمَانَ يَطْلُبُ اللهُ بِهِ
✧ I will not fight after a dream I saw. I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ placing his hand on the Throne, and I saw Abu Bakr placing his hand on the Prophet ﷺ, and I saw Umar placing his hand on Abu Bakr, and I saw Uthman placing his hand on Umar, and I saw blood below them. I said: "What are these bloods?" It was said: "The blood of Uthman, for which God is seeking retribution."

✧ From al-Hasan b. Ali that he said to Abu al-A'war: 'Woe to you! Did not the Messenger of God ﷺ curse Ri'l, Dhakwan, and Amr b. Sufyan?'

حَجَّ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، وَحَجَّ مَعَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَسَبِّ النَّاسِ لِعَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: فَمَرَّ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ، وَحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَنَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ جَالِسٌ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: هَذَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ السَّابُّ لِعَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: عَلَيَّ الرَّجُلَ قَالَ: فَأَتَاهُ رَسُولٌ، فَقَالَ: أَجِبْهُ، قَالَ: مَنْ ؟ قَالَ: الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يَدْعُوكَ، فَأَتَاهُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ: أَنْتَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَرَدَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَأَنْتَ السَّابُّ لِعَلِيٍّ ؟ قَالَ: فَكَأَنَّهُ اسْتَحْيَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ: أَمَا وَاللهِ لَئِنْ وَرَدْتَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَوْضَ، وَمَا أُرَاكَ تَرِدُهُ، لَتَجِدَنَّهُ مُشَمِّرًا الْإِزَارَ عَلَى سَاقٍ يَذُودُ عَنْهُ رَايَاتِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ ذَوْدَ غَرِيبَةِ الْإِبِلِ، قَوْلَ الصَّادِقِ الْمَصْدُوقِ، وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ افْتَرَى
✧ Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan performed the Hajj, and Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj performed it with him; he was among the people most abusive to Ali. He said: They passed through Madinah while al-Hasan b. Ali and a group of his companions were sitting. It was said to him: "This is Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj, the one who abuses Ali." He said: "Bring the man to me." He said: A messenger came to him and said: "Answer him." He said: "Who?" He said: "Al-Hasan b. Ali is calling you." So he came to him and greeted him. Al-Hasan said to him: "Are you Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj?" He said: "Yes." He said: He repeated that to him. He said: "So you are the one who abuses Ali?" He said: It was as if he felt ashamed. Al-Hasan said to him: "By God, if you come to him at the Pool—and I do not think you will reach it—you will find him with his garment tucked up to his shin, driving away from it the banners of the hypocrites as a man drives away strange camels. This is the saying of the truthful one who was believed, and whoever fabricates has failed."
