✧ Umar ؓ said to Suhayb: O Suhayb, you have three traits that I dislike for you. He ؓ said: Your feeding of food while you have no wealth, your taking a kunya while you have no son, and your claiming Arab lineage while your tongue has an accent. He ؓ said: As for what you mentioned about food, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: The best of you is the one who feeds food. By God, I will never stop feeding food. And he mentioned the kunya, and he said: Upon it I live and upon it I die. And he mentioned the claim, and he said: I am Suhayb b. Sinan, until he traced his lineage to al-Namir b. Qasit. I used to tend sheep for my family, and the Romans raided and enslaved me, so they taught me their language, and that is the accent you see in me.
