✧ I entered the mosque and recognized hunger in the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ. I went out until I came to Umm Sulaym ؓ, the mother of Anas b. Malik ؓ, who was married to Malik, the father of Anas. I said, “O Umm Sulaym, I recognized hunger in the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Do you have anything?” She said, “I have something,” and gestured with her hand. He said to her, “Prepare it and make it good.” So she sent Anas ؓ to the Messenger of God ﷺ. I said, “Whisper it in his ear and invite him.” When Anas ؓ came, the Messenger of God ﷺ said, “Did your father send you to invite us, my son?” He said, “Yes.” He ﷺ said to his Companions ؓ, “Go in the name of God.” Anas ؓ turned and hurried back until he came to Abu Talhah ؓ and said, “The Messenger of God ﷺ has come to you with the people.” He said, “I and he went out until we met the Messenger of God ﷺ at the door on the resting place of the step. I said, ‘O Messenger of God, what have you done to us? We only recognized hunger in your face, so we prepared something for you to eat.’ He ﷺ said, ‘Enter and rejoice.’ He said, ‘The Messenger of God ﷺ took it and gathered it in the dish with his hand, then prepared it.’ He ﷺ said, ‘Is there any—’ as if he meant condiment. He said, ‘They brought him ﷺ a small skin with something—or nothing—in it. The Messenger of God ﷺ handled it with his hand and extracted the ghee from it, then said ﷺ, ‘Let ten enter upon me, ten at a time.’ They all ate and were satisfied. The Messenger of God ﷺ said concerning the surplus that remained, ‘Eat, you and your families.’ So they ate and were satisfied.”
