✧ The Blessing of His Supplication ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْبُرْجُمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي ظِلَالٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ - ؓ قَالَتْ:

كَانَتْ لِي شَاةٌ، فَجَمَعْتُ مِنْ سَمْنِهَا فِي عُكَّةٍ، فَمَلَأْتُ الْعُكَّةَ، ثُمَّ بَعَثْتُ بِهَا مَعَ رَبِيبَةَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَبِيبَةُ، أَبْلِغِي هَذِهِ الْعُكَّةَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْتَدِمُ بِهَا فَانْطَلَقَتْ بِهَا رَبِيبَةُ، حَتَّى أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذَا سَمْنٌ بَعَثَتْ بِهِ إِلَيْكَ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ؓ قَالَ ﷺ: فَرِّغُوا لَهَا عُكَّتَهَا، فَفُرِّغَتِ الْعُكَّةُ، فَدُفِعَتْ إِلَيْهَا، فَانْطَلَقَتْ، فَجَاءَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ؓ، فَرَأَتِ الْعُكَّةَ مُمْتَلِئَةً تَقْطُرُ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ؓ: يَا رَبِيبَةُ، أَلَيْسَ أَمَرْتُكِ أَنْ تَنْطَلِقِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِهَا ؟ قَالَتْ: قَدْ فَعَلْتُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تُصَدِّقِينِي فَانْطَلِقِي، فَسَلِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَانْطَلَقَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ؓ، وَمَعَهَا رَبِيبَةُ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، بَعَثْتُ إِلَيْكَ مَعَهَا بِعُكَّةٍ فِيهَا سَمْنٌ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: قَدْ فَعَلَتْ، جَاءَتْ بِهَا، فَقَالَتْ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ، إِنَّهَا لَمُمْتَلِئَةٌ تَقْطُرُ سَمْنًا ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ: أَتَعْجَبِينَ إِنْ كَانَ اللهُ أَطْعَمَكِ كَمَا أَطْعَمْتِ نَبِيَّهُ ؟ كُلِي، وَأَطْعِمِي، قَالَتْ ؓ: فَجِئْتُ الْبَيْتَ، فَقِسْتُ فِي قَعْبٍ لَنَا كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَتَرَكْتُهَا فِيهَا مَا ائْتَدَمْنَا بِهِ شَهْرًا أَوْ شَهْرَيْنِ.

✧ I had a ewe, and I collected its ghee in a small skin and filled the skin. Then I sent it with a foster daughter, saying, ‘O foster daughter, deliver this skin to the Messenger of God ﷺ so he may use it as a condiment.’ The foster daughter went with it until she came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, ‘O Messenger of God, this is ghee that Umm Sulaym ؓ sent to you.’ He ﷺ said, ‘Empty her skin for her.’ The skin was emptied and returned to her, and she left. Umm Sulaym ؓ came and saw the skin full and dripping. She said, ‘O foster daughter, did I not command you to take it to the Messenger of God ﷺ?’ She said, ‘I did. If you do not believe me, go and ask the Messenger of God ﷺ.’ Umm Sulaym ؓ went with her foster daughter and said, ‘O Messenger of God, I sent you with her a skin containing ghee?’ He ﷺ said, ‘She did; she brought it.’ She said, ‘By the One who sent you with the truth and the religion of truth, it is full and dripping with ghee?’ He ﷺ said, ‘Do you marvel that God fed you as you fed His Prophet? Eat and feed others.’ She ؓ said, ‘I came home and measured in a bowl of ours so-and-so much, and left it with what we used as condiment for a month or two.’”
