✧ “A man among those before you met a learned man or a worshipper and said: ‘The other has killed ninety-nine people, all of them unjustly. Do you find any repentance for me?’ He said: ‘No,’ so he killed him. Then he met another and said: ‘The other has killed a hundred people, all of them unjustly. Do you find any repentance for me?’ He said: ‘If I told you that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, does not accept the repentance of one who repents, I would have lied. Here is a monastery in which there are people who worship. Go to them and worship Allah, Mighty and Majestic, along with them. Perhaps Allah, Exalted, will accept your repentance.’ So he set out toward them and died before reaching them. The angels of punishment and the angels of mercy disputed over him, so Allah, Exalted, sent an angel saying: ‘Measure between the two places; whichever he was closer to, he belongs to them.’ They measured and found him closer to the monastery of the penitents by a fingertip, so Allah, Mighty and Majestic, forgave him.”
