✧ Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

« لَلَّهُ تَعَالَى أَفْرَحُ بِتَوْبَةِ عَبْدِهِ الَّذِي قَدْ أَسْرَفَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ مِنْ رَجُلٍ أَضَلَّ رَاحِلَتَهُ، فَسَعَى فِي بُغَائِهَا يَمِينًا وَشِمَالًا، حَتَّى أَعْيَى أَوْ أَيِسَ مِنْهَا وَإِذْ قَدْ هَلَكَ نَظَرَ فَوَجَدَهَا فِي مَكَانٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَرْجُو أَنْ يَجِدَهَا فِيهِ، فَاللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَفْرَحُ بِتَوْبَةِ عَبْدِهِ الْمُسْرِفِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ بِرَاحِلَتِهِ حِينَ وَجَدَهَا

Translation

✧ “Allah, Exalted is He, is more pleased with the repentance of His servant who has transgressed against himself than a man who lost his mount, so he searched for it right and left until he became exhausted or despaired of it, and when he thought he had perished, he looked and found it in a place he had not expected to find it. For Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is more pleased with the repentance of His prodigal servant than that man with his mount when he found it.”
