هَلَكَ عِقْدٌ لِعَائِشَةَ مِنْ جَزْعِ ظَفَارِ فِي سَفَرٍ مِنْ أَسْفَارِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَعَائِشَةُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي ذَلِكَ السَّفَرِ، فَالْتَمَسَتْ عَائِشَةُ عِقْدَهَا حَتَّى انْبَهَرَ اللَّيْلُ، فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَيْهَا وَقَالَ: حَبَسْتِ النَّاسَ بِمَكَانٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ مَاءٌ ! قَالَ: فَأُنْزِلَتْ آيَةُ الصَّعِيدِ، فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ: أَنْتِ وَاللهِ يَا بُنَيَّةُ - مَا عَلِمْتُ - مُبَارَكَةٌ ! فَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ: وَكَانَ عَمَّارٌ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ النَّاسَ طَفِقُوا يَوْمَئِذٍ يَمْسَحُونَ بِأَكُفِّهِمُ الْأَرْضَ، فَيَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ فَيَضْرِبُونَ ضَرْبَةً أُخْرَى فَيَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا أَيْدِيَهُمْ إِلَى الْمَنَاكِبِ وَالْآبَاطِ ثُمَّ يُصَلُّونَ
✧ A necklace of ‘A’ishah made of Yemeni agate was lost during one of the journeys of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and ‘A’ishah was with the Messenger of God ﷺ on that journey. ‘A’ishah searched for her necklace until the night was well advanced. Abu Bakr came and became angry with her and said: 'You have detained the people in a place where there is no water.' He said: Then the verse of tayammum was revealed. Abu Bakr came and said: 'You, by God, my little daughter, as far as I know, are blessed!' ‘Ubayd Allah said: ‘Ammar used to relate that the people began that day wiping the ground with their palms and wiping their faces with them, then they would return and strike another blow and wipe their hands up to the shoulders and armpits, then they prayed.

أَتَى رَجُلٌ عُمَرَ فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَأَجْنَبَ وَلَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ، فَقَالَ: لَا يُصَلِّي، فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ: أَمَا تَذْكُرُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَأَنْتَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَأَجْنَبْنَا فَلَمْ نَجِدِ الْمَاءَ، فَأَمَّا أَنْتَ فَلَمْ تُصَلِّ، وَأَمَّا أَنَا فَتَمَعَّكْتُ فِي التُّرَابِ وَصَلَّيْتُ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ لَكَ: أَمَّا أَنْتَ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَنْبَغِي لَكَ أَنْ تَدَعَ الصَّلَاةَ، وَأَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا عَمَّارُ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَنْبَغِي لَكَ أَنْ تَمَعَّكَ كَمَا تَتَمَعَّكُ الدَّابَّةُ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ يُجْزِئُكَ - وَضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ الْأَرْضَ إِلَى التُّرَابِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا، فَنَفَخَ فِيهَا وَمَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ إِلَى الْمِفْصَلِ، وَلَيْسَ فِيهِ " الذِّرَاعَيْنِ
✧ A man came to ‘Umar and mentioned that he had been on a journey, became junub, and could not find water. He said: 'He should not pray.' ‘Ammar said: 'Do you not remember, O Commander of the Faithful, when you and I were on a military expedition and we became junub and could not find water? As for you, you did not pray, but as for me, I rolled in the dust and prayed. When we came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, we mentioned that to him. He said to you: "As for you, it was not appropriate for you to abandon the prayer. As for you, O ‘Ammar, it was not appropriate for you to roll as an animal rolls. It would have sufficed you"—and the Messenger of God ﷺ struck the ground with his hand to the dust, then said: "like this," and he blew on it and wiped his face and hands up to the wrist, and it does not include the forearms.'

أَجْنَبْتُ وَأَنَا فِي الْإِبِلِ، فَلَمْ أَجِدِ الْمَاءَ، فَتَمَعَّكْتُ كَمَا تَتَمَعَّكُ الدَّابَّةُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ التَّيَمُّمُ
✧ I became junub while I was with the camels and could not find water, so I rolled as an animal rolls. Then I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said: 'Tayammum would have sufficed you.'

" الْفِطْرَةُ الْمَضْمَضَةُ، وَالِاسْتِنْشَاقُ، وَالسِّوَاكُ، وَقَصُّ الشَّارِبِ، وَتَقْلِيمُ الْأَظْفَارِ، وَنَتْفُ الْإِبْطِ، وَالِاسْتِحْدَادُ، وَالِانْتِضَاحُ، وَالْخِتَانُ، وَغَسْلُ الْبَرَاجِمِ
✧ The fitrah is: rinsing the mouth, sniffing water into the nose, using the toothstick, trimming the moustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, washing with water after relieving oneself, circumcision, and washing the knuckles.

رَأَيْتُ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ يَوْمَ صِفِّينَ شَيْخًا آدَمَ، وَإِنَّ فِي يَدِهِ الْحَرْبَةَ، وَإِنَّهَا لَتُرْعَدُ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ وَبِيَدِهِ الرَّايَةُ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ هَذِهِ لَرَايَةٌ قَدْ قَاتَلْتُهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَاللهِ لَوْ ضَرَبُونَا حَتَّى يَبْلُغُوا بِنَا سَعَفَاتِ هَجَرَ لَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ مُصْلِحَتَنَا عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَأَنَّهُمْ عَلَى الضَّلَالَةِ
✧ I saw ‘Ammar ibn Yasir on the day of Siffin, a dark-skinned old man, with a spear in his hand, and it was trembling. He looked at ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, who had the banner in his hand, and said: 'This is a banner I fought against three times with the Messenger of God ﷺ. By God, if they strike us until they drive us to the palm-fronds of Hajar, I would know that our course is upon the truth and that they are upon misguidance.'

✧ The two-faced one in this world will have two faces in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.

قَدِمْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي مِنْ سَفَرٍ فَضَمَّخُونِي بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يُرَحِّبْ بِي وَلَمْ يَبَشَّ بِي، وَقَالَ: " اذْهَبْ فَاغْسِلْ هَذَا عَنْكَ "، قَالَ: فَغَسَلْتُهُ عَنِّي، فَجِئْتُ وَقَدْ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يُرَحِّبْ بِي وَلَمْ يَبَشَّ بِي، وَقَالَ: " اذْهَبْ فَاغْسِلْ هَذَا عَنْكَ "، فَغَسَلْتُهُ عَنِّي، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَرَدَّ عَلَيَّ السَّلَامَ وَرَحَّبَ بِي، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَا تَحْضُرُ جِنَازَةَ الْكَافِرِ بِخَيْرٍ، وَلَا الْمُتَضَمِّخَ بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ، وَلَا الْجُنُبَ، وَرَخَّصَ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ
✧ I came to my family from a journey and they anointed me with saffron. When morning came, I went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and greeted him, but he did not welcome me or show me joy. He said: 'Go and wash this off you.' He said: So I washed it off, and then I came, and some of it remained on me. I greeted him, but he did not welcome me or show me joy, and said: 'Go and wash this off you.' So I washed it off. Then I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and greeted him, and he returned my greeting and welcomed me, and said: 'The angels do not attend the funeral of a disbeliever with good, nor one anointed with saffron, nor one who is junub.' And he gave a concession for the junub, if he wants to eat or sleep, to perform wudu’.

قُلْتُ لِعَمَّارٍ: يَا أَبَا الْيَقْظَانِ، أَرَأَيْتَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ الَّذِي أَتَيْتُمُوهُ بِرَأْيِكُمْ أَمْ شَيْءٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا إِلَّا شَيْئًا عَهِدَهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ
✧ I said to ‘Ammar: 'O Abu al-Yaqzan, do you think that this matter you have brought about is by your own opinion, or is it something the Messenger of God ﷺ entrusted to you?' He said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ did not entrust us with anything except what he entrusted to all the people.'

أَنَّ عَمَّارًا ؓ كَانَ يَنْقُلُ مَعَهُمْ - يَعْنِي الصَّخْرَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَيْحَكَ يَا ابْنَ سُمَيَّةَ، تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ
✧ That 'Ammar ؓ was carrying with them—meaning the rocks—so the Messenger of God ﷺ said: Woe to you, O son of Sumayya—the transgressing party will kill you.

رَأَيْتُ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأَخَفَّهُمَا، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ - أَوْ قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: يَا أَبَا الْيَقْظَانِ، أَخْفَفْتَهُمَا ! قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، هَلْ رَأَيْتَنِي انْتَقَصْتُ مِنْ حُدُودِهِمَا شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: إِنِّي بَادَرْتُ بِالْوَسْوَاسِ، وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ مَا لَهُ مِنْهَا النِّصْفُ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ مَا لَهُ مِنْهَا الثُّلُثُ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ مَا لَهُ مِنْهَا الرُّبُعُ. قَالَ: حَتَّى بَلَغَ الْعُشْرَ
✧ I saw 'Ammar b. Yasir pray two rak'as and made them brief, so I said to him—or a man said to him: O Abu al-Yaqzan, you made them brief! He said: O son of my brother, did you see me shorten any of their limits? He said: No. He said: I hastened to ward off the whisperings, and I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: A man may pray a prayer and have only half of it, and he may pray a prayer and have only a third of it, and he may pray a prayer and have only a quarter of it. He said: until he reached a tenth.

وَذَكَرَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَهُ عَائِشَةَ فَنَالَ مِنْهَا، فَقَالَ: اسْكُتْ مَقْبُوحًا مَنْبُوحًا، أَتُؤْذِي حَبِيبَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ
✧ And a man mentioned 'A'isha in his presence and disparaged her, so he said: Be silent, ugly and rejected—would you harm the beloved of the Messenger of God ﷺ?
