«أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جُبَّةٌ صُوفٌ وخُفَّيْنِ فَلَبِسَهُمَا حَتَّى تَخَرَّقَا وَلَمْ يَسْأَلْ عَنْهُمَا ذَكَّيْنَاهُمَا أَمْ لَا»
✧ “A woolen jubba and two leather socks were gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he wore them until they were worn out, and he did not ask about them whether they had been properly slaughtered or not.”

أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ ؓ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى دَغْفَلٍ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ وَعَنْ أَنْسَابِ النَّاسِ وَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ النُّجُومِ فَإِذَا عَالِمٌ فَقَالَ يَا دَغْفَلُ مِنْ أَيْنَ حَفِظْتَ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ «حَفِظْتُ هَذَا بِلِسَانٍ سَئُولٍ وَقَلْبٍ عَقُولٍ وَإِنَّ آفَةَ الْعِلْمِ النِّسْيَانُ» قَالَ فَاذْهَبْ بِيَزِيدَ فَعَلِّمْهُ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ وَأَنْسَابَ قُرَيْشٍ وَالنُّجُومَ
✧ Mu'awiya ؓ sent to Daghfal and asked him about Arabic, about the genealogies of people, and about the stars, and he found him a scholar. He said, 'O Daghfal, from where did you memorize this?' He said, 'I memorized this with an inquiring tongue and a comprehending heart, and the bane of knowledge is forgetfulness.' He said, 'Then go with Yazid and teach him Arabic, the genealogies of Quraysh, and the stars.'

✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ died at the age of sixty-five years.”

كَانَ عَلَى النَّصَارَى صَوْمُ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَكَانَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلِكٌ فَمَرِضَ فَقَالَ لَئِنْ شَفَاهُ اللهُ لَيَزِيدَنَّ عَشْرًا ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلِكٌ بَعْدَهُ فَأَكَلَ اللَّحْمَ فَوَجِعَ فَقَالَ لَئِنْ شَفَاهُ اللهُ لَيَزِيدَنَّ ثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ كَانَ مَلِكٌ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَ مَا نَدَعُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَيَّامِ أَنْ نُتِمَّهَا وَنَجْعَلُ صَوْمَنَا فِي الرَّبِيعِ فَفَعَلَ فَصَارَتْ خَمْسِينَ يَوْمًا
✧ The Christians were required to fast the month of Ramadan. A king ruled over them and fell ill, so he said, 'If Allah heals him, he will increase by ten.' Then another king ruled after him and ate meat, and it caused him pain, so he said, 'If Allah heals him, he will increase by eight days.' Then another king ruled after him and said, 'We will not leave any of these days but we will complete them and make our fasting in the spring.' So he did, and it became fifty days.

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا بِبَلَدٍ بَارِدٍ وَإِنَّا نَشْرَبُ شَرَابًا نَتَقَوَّى بِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَهَلْ يُسْكِرُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهُ» ثُمَّ أَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ فَقَالَ ﷺ «يُسْكِرُ؟» فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ «لَا تَقْرَبُوهُ» قَالَ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يَصْبِرُوا عَنْهُ قَالَ «فَمَنْ لَمْ يَصْبِرْ عَنْهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ»
✧ He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: O Messenger of Allah, we are in a cold land and we drink a beverage to gain strength from it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Does it intoxicate?" He said: Yes. He said: "Then do not approach it." Then he repeated the question to him, and he ﷺ said: "Does it intoxicate?" He said: Yes. He said: "Do not approach it." He said: They will not be able to abstain from it. He said: "Whoever does not abstain from it, then kill him."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ شَرَابًا مِنْ هَذَا الْقَمْحِ نَتَقَوَّى بِهِ عَلَى أَعْمَالِنَا وَعَلَى بَرْدِ بِلَادِنَا قَالَ «هَلْ يُسْكِرْ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ» ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ «هَلْ يُسْكِرُ» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ» قُلْتُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ غَيْرُ تَارِكِيهِ قَالَ «فَإِنْ لَمْ يَتْرُكُوهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ»
✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: O Messenger of Allah, a drink made from this wheat that we use to gain strength for our work and against the cold of our land. He said: "Does it intoxicate?" I said: Yes. He said: "Then avoid it." Then I came to him from in front of him and said the same thing to him. He said: "Does it intoxicate?" I said: Yes. He said: "Then avoid it." I said: The people will not leave it. He said: "If they do not leave it, then kill them."

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا بِأَرْضٍ بَارِدَةٍ شَدِيدَةِ الْبَرْدِ نَصْنَعُ بِهَا شَرَابًا مِنَ الْقَمْحِ أَفَيَحِلُّ شُرْبُهُ قَالَ «أَيُسْكِرُكُمْ؟» قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ «فَإِنَّهُ خَمْرٌ»
✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, we are in a cold land, intensely cold, where we make a drink from wheat. Is drinking it lawful? He said: "Does it intoxicate you?" I said: Yes. He said: "Then it is khamr."

أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أَرْبَعِمِئَةِ رَاكِبٍ نَسْأَلُهُ الطَّعَامَ فَقَالَ «يَا عُمَرُ اذْهَبْ فَأَطْعِمْهُمْ وأَعْطِهِمْ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا آصُعٌ مِنْ تَمْرٍ مَا يَقْتَاتُهُنَّ عِيَالِي فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ اسْمَعْ وَأَطِعْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ سَمْعٌ وَطَاعَةٌ فَانْطَلَقَ عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى عُلَيَّةَ فَأَخْرَجَ مِفْتَاحًا مِنْ حُجْزَتِهِ فَفَتَحَهَا فَقَالَ لِلْقَوْمِ ادْخُلُوا فَدَخَلُوا وَكُنْتُ آخِرَ الْقَوْمِ دُخُولًا فَأَخَّرْتُ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا مِثْلُ الْفَصِيلِ مِنَ التَّمْرِ
✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as four hundred riders asking him for food. He said: "O Umar, go and feed them and give them." Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, I have only a few measures of dates, which my family subsists on. Abu Bakr ؓ said: Hear and obey. Umar ؓ said: Hearing and obedience. Umar went until he came to an upper room, took out a key from his waistband, opened it, and said to the people: Enter. They entered, and I was the last of the people to enter, so I delayed. Then I turned and found the like of a weaned camel of dates.

أَنَّ دِرْهَمًا جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ جِئْتُكَ أَسْتَفْتِيكَ فِي الْغَزْوِ قَالَ «لَكَ أُمٌّ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَالْزَمْهَا»
✧ That a dirham came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: I have come to ask you for a ruling about going on military expeditions. He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: Yes. He said: "Then stay with her."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ مَعَهُ بِبَدَنَةٍ فَقَالَ «إِنْ عَطِبَ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَخَشِتَ مَوْتَهَا فَانْحَرْهَا ثُمَّ اغْمِسْ نَعْلَهَا فِي دَمِهَا ثُمَّ اضْرِبْ بِهَا صَفْحَتَهَا وَلَا تَطْعَمْ مِنْهَا أَنْتَ وَلَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ رُفْقَتِكَ وَاقْسِمْهَا»
✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a sacrificial camel with him and said: "If any of it becomes defective and you fear it will die, then slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood, then strike its side with it. Do not eat from it yourself, nor anyone of your traveling companions, and distribute it."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَبْعَثُ مَعَهُ بِالْبُدْنِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ «إِنْ عَطِبَ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَخَشِيتَ مَوْتًا فَانْحَرْهَا ثُمَّ اغْمِسْ نَعْلَهَا فِي دَمِهَا ثُمَّ اضْرِبْ بِهَا صَفْحَتَهَا وَلَا تَطْعَمْ مِنْهَا أَنْتَ وَلَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ رُفْقَتِكَ وَاقْسِمْهَا» وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ زُرَيْعٍ وَقَالَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ذُؤَيْبُ بْنُ قَبِيصَةَ
✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to send sacrificial camels with him and then say: "If any of it becomes defective and you fear it will die, then slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood, then strike its side with it. Do not eat from it yourself, nor anyone of your traveling companions, and distribute it." The wording is from the hadith of Yazid b. Zuray', and Khalid b. al-Harith said: Dhu'ayb b. Qabisa.
