سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُ النِّسَاءَ أَنْ يُرَاعِينَ التَّسْبِيحَ وَالتَّهْلِيلَ وَالتَّقْدِيسَ وَيَعْقِدْنَ بِالْأَنَامِلِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّهُنَّ مَسْئُولَاتٌ وَمُسْتَنْطَقَاتٌ وَقَالَ ابْنُ دَاوُدَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ الثَّوْرِيَّ سَأَلَ هَانِي عَنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ
✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding women to attend to glorification, declaring God's oneness, and sanctification, and to count them on their fingertips, saying, "They will be questioned and made to speak." Ibn Dawud said, "It has reached me that al-Thawri asked Hani about this hadith."

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ابْنُ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَمِّهِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنْ قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ فَقَالَ ثُلُثُ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَعْدِلُهُ
✧ Al-Qa'nabi narrated to us; Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah b. Muslim, the nephew of al-Zuhri, narrated to us, from his uncle Ibn Shihab, from Humayd b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf, from his mother Umm Kulthum bt. 'Uqbah b. Abi Mu'ayt, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about "Say: He is Allah, the One" (Qul huwa Allahu ahad), and he said, "It is a third of the Quran or equal to it."

✧ From his mother Umm Kulthum bt. 'Uqbah, one of the first emigrant women, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "He is not a liar who reconciles between people, saying good or conveying good."

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمِّهَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ عُقْبَةَ وَكَانَتْ مِنْ صَوَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَذَّابِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا»
✧ He informed him that his mother, Umm Kulthūm bt. ʿUqbah, who was among the female companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ and among the first female emigrants who gave allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ, said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, “He is not a liar who reconciles between people and conveys good or says good.”

مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُرَخِّصُ فِي الْكَذِبِ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَعُدُّهُ كَذِبًا «الرَّجُلُ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ يَزِيدُ فِي الْقَوْلِ يُرِيدُ بِهِ الْإِصْلَاحَ وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَدِّثُ امْرَأَتَهُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تُحَدِّثُ زَوْجَهَا»
✧ I never saw the Messenger of God ﷺ permit lying in anything except in three cases. The Messenger of God ﷺ would not count it as lying: a man who reconciles between people, adding to the speech while intending reconciliation; a man who speaks in war; and a man who talks to his wife, and a woman who talks to her husband.”

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُرَخِّصُ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا أَعُدُّهُ كَذِبًا «الرَّجُلُ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَدِّثُ امْرَأَتَهُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تُحَدِّثُ زَوْجَهَا»
✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ permit lying except in three cases. The Messenger of God ﷺ would say, “I do not count it as lying: a man who reconciles between people, a man who speaks in war, and a man who talks to his wife and a woman who talks to her husband.”

عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَكَانَتْ صَلَّتِ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»
✧ From Umm Kulthum bt. ʿUqba b. Abī Muʿayṭ, and she was the wife of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, and she had prayed in the direction of both qiblas with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “He is not a liar who makes peace between people and says good or conveys good.”
