   رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ يَنْفُضُ رَأْسَهُ وَلِحْيَتَهُ مِنْ رَدْعِ الْحِنَّاءِ»

   ✧ I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ go out to prayer shaking his head and beard from the traces of henna.

   ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَا أَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ جُدَامَةَ بِنْتِ وَهْبٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ قَالَتْ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنِ الْغَيلَةِ حَتَّى ذَكَرْتُ أَنَّ فَارِسَ وَالرُّومَ يَصْنَعُونَ ذَلِكَ فَلَا يَضُرُّ أَوْلَادَهُمْ»

   ✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us from Mālik; ḥ (turning to another chain) and Abū Yazīd al-Qarāṭīsī narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Ḥakam narrated to us; ḥ (turning to another chain) and Bakr b. Sahl narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh b. Yūsuf narrated to us; they both said: Mālik reported to us, from Abū al-Aswad Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Nawfal, from ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr, from ʿĀʾishah, from Judāmah bt. Wahb al-Asadiyyah, who said: She informed me that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "I had intended to forbid al-ghīlah (sexual intercourse with a nursing mother) until I recalled that the Persians and Romans do that and it does not harm their children."

   حَضَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَاسٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنِ الْغَيلَةِ فَنَظَرْتُ فِي فَارِسَ وَالرُّومَ فَإِذَا هُمْ يُغِيلُونَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ فَلَا يَضُرُّ أَوْلَادَهُمْ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ سَأَلُوهُ عَنِ الْعَزْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاكَ الْوَأْدُ الْخَفِيُّ وَهُوَ (إِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ)

   ✧ I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among some people while he was saying: "I had intended to forbid al-ghīlah (sexual intercourse with a nursing mother), but I looked into the Persians and Romans, and found that they have intercourse with their nursing mothers, yet it does not harm their children at all." Then they asked him about ʿazl (coitus interruptus), and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That is the hidden waʾd (burying alive), and it is: 'When the buried girl is asked' (Qur'an 81:8)."

   سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنِ الْغِيَالِ فَإِذَا فَارِسُ وَالرُّومُ يُغِيلُونَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ وَلَا يَضُرُّهُمْ شَيْئًا»

   ✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "I wanted to forbid al-ghiyāl (sexual intercourse with nursing mothers), but I found that the Persians and Romans have intercourse with their nursing mothers, and it does not harm them at all."

   سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ تَصَدَّقْنَ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَأَتَتْ زَيْنَبُ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ زَوْجِي مُحْتَاجٌ فَهَلْ يَجُوزُ لِي أَنْ أَعُودَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ «نَعَمْ لَكِ أَجْرَانِ»

   ✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Give charity, even from your jewelry, for you are the majority of the people of the Fire." So Zaynab came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my husband is in need; is it permissible for me to give back to him?" He said: "Yes, you will have two rewards."

   أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ غَيَّرَ اسْمَ عَاصِيَةَ وَقَالَ «أَنْتِ جَمِيلَةُ»

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed the name of ʿĀṣiyah and said: "You are Jamīlah."

   ذَهَبَ بِي أَبِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بَعْدَمَا رَدَدْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْإِبِلَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ادْعُ اللهَ لِبِنْتِي هَذِهِ بِالْبَرَكَةِ قَالَتْ «فَأَجْلَسَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي حِجْرِهِ وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِي وَدَعَا لِي بِالْبَرَكَةِ»

   ✧ My father took me to the Prophet ﷺ after I had responded to my father's camels. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for the blessing of my daughter." The Prophet ﷺ sat me in his room, placed his hand on my head, and prayed for me with blessings.

   كُنْتُ مَعَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَا أُمَّتَاهُ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُكُمْ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ بُنَيٌّ لَهَا يَا أُمَّهْ مَا لَهُ يَدْعُو أُمَّهُ؟ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا بُنَيُّ إِنَّمَا يَعْنِي أُمَّتَهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «أَلَا إِنَّ أَعْرَاضَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ وَدِمَاءَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَرَامٌ كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا فِي شَهْرِكُمْ هَذَا»

   ✧ I was with Umm Salamah, the Mother of the Believers, during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "O my mother, have I conveyed to you?" She said: A young son of hers said, "O mother, why is he calling his mother?" She said: I said, "O my son, he means his community (ummah)," and he was saying: "Verily, your honors, your wealth, and your blood are inviolable to you, like the inviolability of this day of yours, in this land of yours, in this month of yours."

   أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «خَيْرُ الْقَرْنِ قَرْنِي»

   ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best generation is my generation."

    أَنَّ جَمِيلَةَ بِنْتَ أُبَيِّ بْنِ سَلُولٍ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَعْتِبُ عَلَى ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ فِي خُلُقٍ وَلَا دِينٍ وَلَكِنِّي لَا أُطِيقُهُ بُغْضًا وَأَكْرَهُ الْكُفْرَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «تَرُدِّينَ عَلَيْهِ حَدِيقَتَهُ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ مِنْهَا مَا سَاقَ إِلَيْهَا وَلَا يَزْدَادُ

    ✧ Jamīlah bt. Ubayy b. Salūl came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not find fault with Thābit b. Qays in character or religion, but I cannot stand him out of dislike, and I hate to commit disbelief within Islam." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Will you return to him his garden?" She said, "Yes." So the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to take from her what he had given her as dowry, and not to increase.

    أَنَّ جَمِيلَةَ بِنْتَ أُبَيِّ بْنِ سَلُولٍ أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا أَعْتِبُ عَلَى ثَابِتٍ فِي خُلُقٍ وَلَا دِينٍ وَلَكِنْ أَكْرَهُ الْكُفْرَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَرُدِّينَ عَلَيْهِ حَدِيقَتَهُ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَرَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ وَفَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمَا جَمِيلَةُ بِنْتُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَفْلَحِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ امْرَأَةُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ

    ✧ Jamīlah bt. Ubayy b. Salūl came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not find fault with Thābit in character or religion, but I hate disbelief within Islam." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Will you return to him his garden?" She said, "Yes." So she returned it to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ separated them. [Note:] Jamīlah bt. Thābit b. Abī al-Aflaḥ al-Anṣārī, the wife of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb.
