79. ✧ Safinah, freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ᴿᴬ

أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، أَضَافَ أَضْيَافًا فَصَنَعَ لَهُمْ طَعَامًا فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ: لَوْ دَعَوْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَخَلَ مَعَنَا فَدَعَوْهُ فَجَاءَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى عِضَادَتَيِ الْبَابِ فَرَأَى الْقِرَامَ قَدْ ضُرِبَ مِنْ نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ لِعَلِيٍّ: اذْهَبْ فَانْظُرْ مَا رَجَعَهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ مَا رَدَّكَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنِّي نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَدْخُلَ بَيْتًا مُزَوَّقًا
✧ 'Ali once hosted some guests and prepared food for them. Fatimah said, 'Would that we invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he ate with us.' So they invited him and he came, but when he placed his hand on the two doorposts he saw a decorated curtain that had been hung on one side of the house, and he turned back. Fatimah said to 'Ali, 'Go and see what made him turn back.' He asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, what made you turn back?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I have been forbidden to enter a decorated house.'

" الْخِلَافَةُ بَعْدِي ثَلَاثُونَ سَنَةً ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي سَفِينَةُ: أَمْسِكْ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ سَنَتَيْنِ، وَلِعُمَرَ عَشْرًا، وَلِعُثْمَانَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ، وَلِعَلِيٍّ سِتًّا
✧ "The caliphate after me will last thirty years." Then Safinah said to me, 'Count: two years for Abu Bakr, ten for 'Umar, twelve for 'Uthman, and six for 'Ali.'

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، رَأَيْتُ كَأَنَّ مِيزَانًا دُلِّيَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَوُزِنْتَ بِأَبِي بَكْرٍ فَرَجَحْتَ بِأَبِي بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ وُزِنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِعُمَرَ فَرَجَحَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِعُمَرَ، ثُمَّ وُزِنَ عُمَرُ بِعُثْمَانَ فَرَجَحَ عُمَرُ بِعُثْمَانَ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَ الْمِيزَانُ فَاسْتَهَلَّهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خِلَافَةَ نُبُوَّةٍ ثُمَّ يُؤْتِي اللهُ الْمُلْكَ مَنْ يَشَاءُ
✧ A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I saw in a dream as if a scale was lowered from heaven and you were weighed against Abu Bakr, and you outweighed Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr was weighed against 'Umar, and Abu Bakr outweighed 'Umar. Then 'Umar was weighed against 'Uthman, and 'Umar outweighed 'Uthman. Then the scale was raised.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ considered this a caliphate of prophethood, then Allah gives sovereignty to whomever He wills.

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَكَانَ إِذَا أَعْيَى بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَلْقَى عَلَى سَفِينَةَ تُرْسَهُ حَتَّى حَمَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ مَتَاعًا كَثِيرًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " أَنْتَ سَفِينَةُ
✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. Whenever some of the people became exhausted, they would throw their shields onto Safinah until he carried a great amount of baggage from that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You are Safinah (a ship).'

أَنَّهُ أَشَاطَ دَمَ جَزُورٍ بِجِذْلٍ فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ: أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَأَمَرَهُ بِأَكْلِهَا
✧ He scorched the blood of a slaughtered camel with a wooden block, then asked the Prophet ﷺ about that. He said, 'Did you make the blood flow?' He replied, 'Yes.' So he ordered him to eat it.

✧ Isma'il b. 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Abu Rayhanah, from Safinah, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.

احْتَجَمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، وَقَالَ لِي: " غَيِّبِ الدَّمَ فَذَهَبْتُ فَشَرِبْتُهُ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقَالَ لِي: " مَا صَنَعْتَ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ: غَيَّبْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: " شَرِبْتَهُ ؟ " قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping and said to me: 'Dispose of the blood.' So I went and drank it, then I came, and he said to me: 'What did you do?' I said: 'I disposed of it.' He said: 'Did you drink it?' I said: 'Yes.'

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُسَافَرَ بِالْقُرْآنِ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَنَالَهُ الْعَدُوُّ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade traveling with the Qur'an to enemy territory, fearing that the enemy might get hold of it.

" كُنْتُ فِي الْبَحْرِ فَانْكَسَرَتْ سَفِينَتُنَا فَلَمْ نَعْرِفِ الطَّرِيقَ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِالْأَسَدِ قَدْ عَرَضَ لَنَا فَتَأَخَّرَ أَصْحَابِي فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ: أَنَا سَفِينَةُ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ أَضْلَلْنَا الطَّرِيقَ فَمَشَى بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ حَتَّى أَوْقَعَنَا عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى وَدَفَعَنِي كَأَنَّهُ يُرِينِي الطَّرِيقَ، ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يُهَمْهِمُ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ يُوَدِّعُنَا
✧ I was at sea and our ship broke, and we did not know the way. Then I saw a lion that had appeared before us. My companions fell back, so I approached it and said: 'I am Safinah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we have lost our way.' It walked before me until it brought us to the road, then it withdrew and pushed me as if showing me the way, then it began to make a humming sound, and I thought that it was bidding us farewell.

كَانَ جَالِسًا فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ قَائِدٌ وَخَلْفَهُ سَائِقٌ، فَقَالَ: لَعَنَ اللهُ الْقَائِدَ وَالسَّائِقَ وَالرَّاكِبَ
✧ He was sitting when a man passed on a camel, with a driver before him and another behind him. He said: 'May Allah curse the driver, the one behind, and the rider.'

" أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَعَبَّدَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ، وَاعْتَزَلَ النِّسَاءَ حَتَّى صَارَ كَأَنَّهُ شَنٌّ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ devoted himself to worship before his death, and he kept away from women until he became like a worn-out waterskin.

أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ طَوَايِرُ فَصَنَعْتُ لَهُ بَعْضَهَا، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ أَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ فَقَالَ: " مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكَ هَذَا ؟ " فَقُلْتُ: مِنَ الَّذِي أُتِيتَ بِهِ أَمْسِ قَالَ: " أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ لَا تَدَّخِرَنَّ لِغَدٍ طَعَامًا لِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ رِزْقُهُ ؟ " ثُمَّ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْ عَلَيَّ أَحَبَّ خَلْقِكَ إِلَيْكَ يَأْكُلْ مَعِي مِنْ هَذَا الطَّيْرِ فَدَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ، فَقَالَ: " اللَّهُمَّ وَإِلَيَّ
✧ Some birds were gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I prepared some of them for him. When morning came, I brought it to him, and he said: 'Where did you get this?' I said: 'From what was brought to you yesterday.' He said: 'Did I not tell you not to store up food for tomorrow? Each day has its provision.' Then he said: 'O Allah, bring to me the most beloved of Your creation to You, to eat with me from this bird.' Then 'Ali entered, and he said: 'O Allah, and to me.'
