  1. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 811Sahih

    أَنَّهُ لَمَّا وَفَدَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَعَ قَوْمِهِ فَسَمِعَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُمْ يُكَنُّونَهُ بِأَبِي الْحَكَمِ فَدَعَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَكَمُ وَإِلَيْهِ الْحُكْمُ فَلِمَ تَكَنَّيْتَ بِأَبِي الْحَكَمِ؟ قَالَ لاَ وَلَكِنَّ قَوْمِي إِذَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِي شَيْءٍ أَتَوْنِي فَحَكَمْتُ بَيْنَهُمْ فَرَضِيَ كِلاَ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ قَالَ مَا أَحْسَنَ هَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا لَكَ مِنَ الْوَلَدِ؟ قُلْتُ لِي شُرَيْحٌ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ وَمُسْلِمٌ بَنُو هَانِئٍ قَالَ فَمَنْ أَكْبَرُهُمْ؟ قُلْتُ شُرَيْحٌ قَالَ فَأَنْتَ أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ وَدَعَا لَهُ وَوَلَدِهِ

    ✧ When he came to the Prophet ﷺ with his people, the Prophet ﷺ heard them giving him the kunya Abu'l-Hakam. The Prophet ﷺ called him and said, "Allah is the Judge (al-Hakam), and to Him belongs judgment. So why have you taken the kunya Abu'l-Hakam?" He said, "No, but my people, when they disagree about something, come to me and I judge between them, and both parties are satisfied." He said, "How excellent this is!" Then he said, "What children do you have?" I said, "I have Shurayh, ʿAbdullah, and Muslim, the sons of Hani'." He said, "Who is the eldest of them?" I said, "Shurayh." He said, "Then you are Abu Shurayh." And he supplicated for him and his children.

  2. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 812Weak

    قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ يَسُوقُ إِبِلَنَا هَذِهِ؟ أَوْ قَالَ مَنْ يُبَلِّغُ إِبِلَنَا هَذِهِ؟ قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ فُلاَنٌ قَالَ اجْلِسْ ثُمَّ قَامَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ فُلاَنٌ فقَالَ اجْلِسْ ثُمَّ قَامَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ نَاجِيَةُ قَالَ أَنْتَ لَهَا فَسُقْهَا

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who will drive these camels of ours?" or he said, "Who will deliver these camels of ours?" A man said, "I will." He said, "What is your name?" He said, "So-and-so." He said, "Sit down." Then another stood up and he said, "What is your name?" He said, "So-and-so." He said, "Sit down." Then another stood up and he said, "What is your name?" He said, "Najiyah." He said, "You are suited for them, so drive them."

    عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أَقْبَلَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ مُسْرِعًا وَنَحْنُ قُعُودٌ حَتَّى أَفْزَعَنَا سُرْعَتُهُ إِلَيْنَا فَلَمَّا انْتَهَى إِلَيْنَا سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَدْ أَقْبَلْتُ إِلَيْكُمْ مُسْرِعًا لِأُخْبِرَكُمْ بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَنَسِيتُهَا فِيمَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الأوَاخِرِ

    ✧ Ibn ʿAbbas said: The Prophet of Allah ﷺ came toward us quickly while we were sitting, until his haste toward us alarmed us. When he reached us, he greeted, then said, "I came to you quickly to inform you about the Night of Power, but I forgot it between myself and you. So seek it in the last ten nights."

    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِأَسْمَاءِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَأَحَبُّ الأسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَصْدَقُهَا حَارِثٌ وَهَمَّامٌ وَأَقْبَحُهَا حَرْبٌ وَمُرَّةُ

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves with the names of the prophets. The most beloved of names to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are ʿAbdullah and ʿAbd al-Rahman. The most truthful are Harith and Hammam. The ugliest are Harb and Murrah."

  5. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 815Sahih

    عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقُلْنَا لاَ نُكَنِّيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ وَلاَ كَرَامَةَ فَأُخْبِرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَمِّ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ

    ✧ Jabir said: A son was born to a man among us, and he named him al-Qasim. We said, "We will not give you the kunya Abu'l-Qasim, nor any honor." The Prophet ﷺ was informed of that, and he said, "Name your son ʿAbd al-Rahman."

  6. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 816Sahih

    عَنْ سَهْلٍ قَالَ أُتِيَ بِالْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ وُلِدَ فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ وَأَبُو أُسَيْدٍ جَالِسٌ فَلَهَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِشَيْءٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَمَرَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ بِابْنِهِ فَاحْتُمِلَ مِنْ فَخِذِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَاسْتَفَاقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ الصَّبِيُّ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ قَلَبْنَاهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ مَا اسْمُهُ؟ قَالَ فُلاَنٌ قَالَ لاَ لَكِنِ اسْمُهُ الْمُنْذِرُ فَسَمَّاهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُنْذِرَ

    ✧ Sahl said: Al-Mundhir b. Abi Usayd was brought to the Prophet ﷺ when he was born. He placed him on his thigh while Abu Usayd was sitting. The Prophet ﷺ became distracted by something in front of him, and Abu Usayd ordered that his son be taken, so he was lifted from the Prophet's thigh. The Prophet ﷺ came to attention and said, "Where is the child?" Abu Usayd said, "We took him away, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "What is his name?" He said, "So-and-so." He said, "No, rather his name is al-Mundhir." So he named him al-Mundhir that day.

  7. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 817Sahih

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْنَى الأسْمَاءِ عِنْدَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ تَسَمَّى مَلِكَ الأمْلاكِ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most vile of names in the sight of Allah is a man who names himself King of Kings."

  8. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 818Sahih

    سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ النَّارِ بَعْدَ دُخُولٍ وَنَحْنُ نَقْرَأُ الَّذِي تَقْرَأُ

    ✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "They will come out of the Fire after entering it, and we recite what you recite."

  9. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 819Weak

    حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ حِذْيَمَ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ يُدْعَى الرَّجُلُ بِأَحَبِّ أَسْمَائِهِ إِلَيْهِ وَأَحَبِّ كُنَاهُ

    ✧ My grandfather Hanzalah b. Hidhyam narrated to me. He said: The Prophet ﷺ liked for a man to be called by the name he loved most and the kunya he loved most.

  10. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 820Sahih

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ غَيْرَ اسْمَ عَاصِيَةَ وَقَالَ أَنْتِ جَمِيلَةُ

    ✧ The Prophet changed the name ʿAsiyah and said, "You are Jamilah."

  11. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 821Sahih

    أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلَتْهُ عَنِ اسْمِ أُخْتٍ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ؟ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ اسْمُهَا بَرَّةُ قَالَتْ غَيِّرِ اسْمَهَا فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَكَحَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ وَاسْمُهَا بَرَّةُ فَغَيَّرَ اسْمَهَا إِلَى زَيْنَبَ وَدَخَلَ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ حِينَ تَزَوَّجَهَا وَاسْمِي بَرَّةُ فَسَمِعَهَا تَدْعُونِي بَرَّةَ فَقَالَ لاَ تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْبَرَّةِ مِنْكُنَّ وَالْفَاجِرَةِ سَمِّيهَا زَيْنَبَ فَقَالَتْ فَهِيَ زَيْنَبُ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا سَمِّي فَقَالَتْ غَيِّرْهُ إِلَى مَا غَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِّهَا زَيْنَبَ

    ✧ He entered upon Zaynab bt. Abī Salama and she asked him about the name of a sister of his who was with him. He said: I said, “Her name is Barra.” She said: Change her name, for the Prophet ﷺ married Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh when her name was Barra, and he changed her name to Zaynab. And he entered upon Umm Salama when he married her, and my name was Barra. He heard her calling me Barra, so he said: Do not praise yourselves, for Allah knows best who among you is righteous and who is sinful. Call her Zaynab. She said: So she is Zaynab. I said to her: Give a name. She said: Change it to what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed it to, so call her Zaynab.

  12. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 822Weak

    عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ الصَّرْمَ فَسَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَعِيدًا قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ ؓ مُتَّكِئًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ

    Ibn 'Abdu'r-Rahman ibn Sa'id al-Makhzumi, whose name was as-Surm, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him Sa'id (happy). He related that he had seen 'Uthman reclining in the mosque.

  13. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 823Weak

    عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ لَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحَسَنُ ؓ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْنَا حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ ؓ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْنَا حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ حُسَيْنٌ فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الثَّالِثُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْنَا حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ مُحْسِنٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِأَسْمَاءِ وَلَدِ هَارُونَ شِبْرٌ وَشَبِيرٌ وَمُشَبِّرٌ

    Shabr, Shubayr, and Mushabbir.'"

  14. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 824Weak

    عَنْ أَبِيهَا قَالَ شَهِدْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حُنَيْنًا فَقَالَ لِي مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قُلْتُ غُرَابٌ قَالَ لا بَلِ اسْمُكَ مُسْلِمٌ

    ✧ From his father, who said: I was present with the Prophet ﷺ at Ḥunayn, and he said to me, “What is your name?” I said, “Ghurāb.” He said, “No, rather your name is Muslim.”

  15. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 825Hasan

    عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ شِهَابٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَلْ أَنْتَ هِشَامٌ

    'A'isha said, "A man called Shihab (flame) was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Rather you are Hisham.'"

  16. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 826Sahih

    سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ لاَ يُقْتَلُ قُرَشِيٌّ صَبْرًا بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَلَمْ يُدْرِكِ الإِسْلاَمَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ عُصَاةِ قُرَيْشٍ غَيْرُ مُطِيعٍ كَانَ اسْمُهُ الْعَاصَ فَسَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مُطِيعًا

    ✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say on the day of the conquest of Makkah: “No Qurayshī will be killed in retaliation after today until the Day of Rising.” None of the disobedient Quraysh embraced Islam except Muṭīʿ, whose name had been al-ʿĀṣ, and the Prophet ﷺ named him Muṭīʿ.

  17. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 827Sahih

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا عَائِشُ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكِ السَّلاَمَ قَالَتْ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ قَالَتْ وَهُوَ يَرَى مَا لا أَرَى

    'A'isha said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "'A'ish! Jibril sends you greetings." She said, "And peace be upon him and the mercy of Allah." She remarked, "He sees what I do not see."

  18. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 828Weak

    عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ قَالَتْ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ قَالَتْ أَمَّا أَنَا فَأَشْهَدُ عَلَى أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ فِي هَذَا الْبَيْتِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ قَائِظَةٍ وَنَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ وَجِبْرِيلُ يُوحِي إِلَيْهِ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَضْرِبُ كَفَّ أَوْ كَتِفَ ابْنِ عَفَّانَ بِيَدِهِ اكْتُبْ عُثْمُ فَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ يُنْزِلُ تِلْكَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ مِنْ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ رَجُلاً عَلَيْهِ كَرِيمًا فَمَنْ سَبَّ ابْنَ عَفَّانَ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ

    ✧ From ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān, she said—and upon him be peace and the mercy of Allah—she said: As for me, I bear witness that I saw ʿUthmān in this house on a scorching night while the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and Jibrīl were revealing to him, and the Prophet ﷺ was striking the palm or shoulder of Ibn ʿAffān with his hand, saying, “Write, ʿUthm.” Allah would not have bestowed that station upon His Prophet ﷺ except for a man noble in His sight. So whoever reviles Ibn ʿAffān, upon him is the curse of Allah.

  19. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 829Sahih

    حَدَّثَنَا بَشِيرٌ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ زَحْمٌ قَالَ بَلْ أَنْتَ بَشِيرٌ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا أُمَاشِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ الْخَصَاصِيَةِ مَا أَصْبَحْتَ تَنْقِمُ عَلَى اللهِ؟ أَصْبَحْتَ تُمَاشِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي مَا أَنْقِمُ عَلَى اللهِ شَيْئًا كُلَّ خَيْرٍ قَدْ أَصَبْتُ فَأَتَى عَلَى قُبُورِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ سَبَقَ هَؤُلاَءِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا ثُمَّ أَتَى عَلَى قُبُورِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ هَؤُلاَءِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ سِبْتِيَّتَانِ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ الْقُبُورِ فَقَالَ يَا صَاحِبَ السِّبْتِيَّتَيْنِ أَلْقِ سِبْتِيَّتَكَ فَخَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ

    ✧ Bashīr narrated to us, saying: He came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “What is your name?” He said, “Zaḥm.” He said, “Rather, you are Bashīr.” While I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ, he said, “O son of al-Khaṣāṣiyya, what have you come to resent against Allah? You have come to walk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” I said, “By my father and mother, I do not resent anything against Allah. Every good I have attained.” Then he came upon the graves of the polytheists and said, “These have already gone ahead with much good.” Then he came upon the graves of the Muslims and said, “These have attained much good.” Then there was a man wearing two sandals of sibtiyya leather walking among the graves, and he said, “O owner of the two sibtiyya sandals, cast off your sibtiyya sandals.” So he took off his sandals.

  20. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 830Sahih

    عَنْ بَشِيرِ ابْنِ الْخَصَاصِيَةِ وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ زَحْمًا فَسَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَشِيرًا

    ✧ From Bashīr b. al-Khaṣāṣiyya, whose name was Zaḥm, and the Prophet ﷺ named him Bashīr.

  21. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 831Sahih

    أَنَّ اسْمَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ كَانَ بَرَّةَ فَسَمَّاهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ جُوَيْرِيَةَ

    ✧ The name of Juwayriyya was Barra, and the Prophet ﷺ named her Juwayriyya.

  22. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 832No grade recorded

    عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَ اسْمُ مَيْمُونَةَ بَرَّةَ فَسَمَّاهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَيْمُونَةَ

    ✧ From Abū Hurayra, who said: The name of Maymūna was Barra, and the Prophet ﷺ named her Maymūna.

  23. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 833Sahih

    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنْ عِشْتُ نَهَيْتُ أُمَّتِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُسَمِّي أَحَدُهُمْ بَرَكَةَ وَنَافِعًا وَأَفْلَحَ وَلاَ أَدْرِي قَالَ رَافِعًا أَمْ لاَ؟ يُقَالُ هَا هُنَا بَرَكَةُ؟ فَيُقَالُ لَيْسَ هَا هُنَا فَقُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ

    ✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “If I live, I will forbid my community—if Allah wills—that any of them name someone Baraka, Nāfiʿ, Aflaḥ—and I do not know whether he said Rāfiʿ or not—so that it is said, ‘Is Baraka here?’ and it is said, ‘He is not here.’” Then the Prophet ﷺ was taken, and he did not forbid that.

  24. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 834Sahih

    سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ يَقُولُ أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَنْهَى أَنْ يُسَمَّى بِيَعْلَى وَبِبَرَكَةَ وَنَافِعٍ وَيَسَارٍ وَأَفْلَحَ وَنَحْوَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ بَعْدُ عَنْهَا فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا

    ✧ He heard Jābir b. ʿAbdillāh say: The Prophet ﷺ wanted to forbid naming with Yaʿlā, Baraka, Nāfiʿ, Yasār, Aflaḥ, and the like of that. Then he fell silent about them afterwards and did not say anything.

  25. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 835Hasan

    حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ قَالَ لَمَّا اعْتَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نِسَاءَهُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَبَاحٍ غُلاَمِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَنَادَيْتُ يَا رَبَاحُ اسْتَأْذِنْ لِي عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

    'Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "When the Prophet ﷺ withdrew from his wives, I was with Rabah, the slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I called, 'Rabah, ask permission for me to come in to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.'"

  26. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 836Sahih

    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنِّي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ

    ✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya, for I am Abū al-Qāsim.”

    عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي

    ✧ From Anas b. Mālik, who said: The Prophet ﷺ was in the market, and a man said, “O Abā al-Qāsim.” The Prophet ﷺ turned to him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, I only called this one.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya.”

  28. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 838Sahih

    حَدَّثَنِي يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلاَّمٍ قَالَ سَمَّانِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُوسُفَ وَأَقْعَدَنِي عَلَى حِجْرِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِي

    ✧ Yusuf b. 'Abdullah b. Salam narrated to me: The Prophet ﷺ named me Yusuf and seated me on his lap and wiped my head.

  29. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 839Sahih

    قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فِي حَدِيثِ مَنْصُورٍ إِنَّ الأَنْصَارِيَّ قَالَ حَمَلْتُهُ عَلَى عُنُقِي فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَفِي حَدِيثِ سُلَيْمَانَ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ فَأَرَادُوا أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا قَالَ تَسَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنِّي إِنَّمَا جُعِلْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ

    ✧ Shu'bah said in the hadith of Mansur: The Ansari said: I carried him on my neck and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. And in the hadith of Sulayman: A son was born to him, and they wanted to name him Muhammad. He said: Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya. I was made a Qasim; I distribute among you. And Husayn said: I was sent as a Qasim; I distribute among you.

  30. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 840Sahih

    عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ وُلِدَ لِي غُلاَمٌ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَمَّاهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَحَنَّكَهُ بِتَمْرَةٍ وَدَعَا لَهُ بِالْبَرَكَةِ وَدَفَعَهُ إِلَيَّ وَكَانَ أَكْبَرَ وَلَدِ أَبِي مُوسَى

    ✧ From Abu Musa: He said: A son was born to me, and I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. He named him Ibrahim, and he chewed a date for him, and prayed for blessing for him, and handed him to me. He was the eldest son of Abu Musa.

  31. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 841Sahih

    أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ حَزْنٌ قَالَ أَنْتَ سَهْلٌ قَالَ لاَ أُغَيِّرُ اسْمًا سَمَّانِيهِ أَبِي قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَمَا زَالَتِ الْحُزُونَةُ فِينَا بَعْدُ

    ✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: What is your name? He said: Hazn. He said: You are Sahl. He said: I will not change the name my father gave me. Ibn al-Musayyib said: And roughness has remained among us ever since.
