حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنْ عِشْتُ نَهَيْتُ أُمَّتِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُسَمِّي أَحَدُهُمْ بَرَكَةَ وَنَافِعًا وَأَفْلَحَ وَلاَ أَدْرِي قَالَ رَافِعًا أَمْ لاَ؟ يُقَالُ هَا هُنَا بَرَكَةُ؟ فَيُقَالُ لَيْسَ هَا هُنَا فَقُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Jabir reported:

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “If I live, I will forbid my community—if Allah wills—that any of them name someone Baraka, Nāfiʿ, Aflaḥ—and I do not know whether he said Rāfiʿ or not—so that it is said, ‘Is Baraka here?’ and it is said, ‘He is not here.’” Then the Prophet ﷺ was taken, and he did not forbid that.
