✧ Recite the Quran as long as your hearts are united upon it, but when you differ about it, then stop. He said: I was a young boy during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

  2. Musnad Abi Ya'la 1519No grade recorded

✧ Adam and Musa argued. Musa said: You are Adam, whom Allah created with His hand, and to whom He prostrated His angels, and whom He settled in His Garden, yet you expelled people from the Garden? Adam said: You are Musa, to whom Allah spoke intimately and gave the Torah. Do you blame me for a matter that was decreed for me before He created me? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: So Adam defeated Musa, so Adam defeated Musa.

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a bearer of good news came to him from a military expedition he had sent, informing him of the victory Allah granted his expedition and the conquest Allah opened for them. He said: O Messenger of Allah, while we were pursuing the enemy and Allah had defeated them, I caught up with a man with my sword. When he sensed that the sword had reached him, he turned while running and said: I am a Muslim, I am a Muslim. But I killed him, and he was only seeking protection, O Prophet of Allah. He said: Why did you not split open his heart to see whether he was truthful or lying? He said: If I had split open his heart, the heart would not have informed me; is his heart anything but a lump of flesh? He said: You killed him; you did not know what was in his heart, nor did you believe his tongue. He said: O Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for me. He said: I will not ask forgiveness for you. They buried him, but he appeared on the surface of the earth three times. When his people saw that, they were ashamed and humiliated by what had happened to him, so they carried him and threw him into a ravine among those ravines.

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a bearer of good news came to him from a military expedition he had sent, informing him of the victory Allah granted his expedition and the conquest Allah opened for them. He mentioned something similar and added to it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said at that point: After me there will be trials like pieces of dark night, striking like the striking of snakes and strong bulls. A man will become a Muslim in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and become a Muslim in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning. A man among the Muslims said: What should we do at that time, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Enter your houses and conceal your mention. A man among the Muslims said: What if one of us is entered upon in his house? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let him restrain himself with his hand, and let him be the servant of Allah who is killed, not the servant of Allah who kills. For a man may be within the dome of Islam, yet he consumes his brother's wealth, sheds his blood, disobeys his Lord, disbelieves in his Creator, and Hellfire becomes obligatory for him.

He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Am I older or the Remembrance?' He said: 'The Remembrance.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'So Adam argued with Musa, and Adam defeated Musa in argument.'

✧ A man said: 'By Allah, Allah will not forgive so-and-so.' Allah said: 'Who is this who swears by Me that I will not forgive so-and-so? I have indeed forgiven so-and-so, and I have made your deeds worthless.'

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a group and appointed Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah over them. When he was about to set out, he wept out of longing for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So he sent a man in his place named Abdullah b. Jahsh, and wrote him a letter, and commanded him not to compel anyone of his companions to proceed with him. When he read the letter, he said: 'We belong to Allah and to Him we return,' and said: 'Hearing and obedience, meaning to Allah and His Messenger.' He informed them of the news and read the letter to them. Two men went back, and the rest went on. They met Ibn al-Hadrami and killed him, and they did not know whether that day was from Rajab or Jumada. The polytheists said to the Muslims: 'You did such and such in the sacred month.' They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him the story. Allah revealed: 'They ask you about fighting in the sacred month. Say: Fighting therein is great' up to His saying: 'and fitnah is greater than killing.' He said: 'Polytheism.' One of those who were in the expedition said: 'By Allah, only one killed him. If it is good, you have done it; if it is a sin, you have committed it.' Some Muslims said: 'If they did not incur sin in their month, they have no reward in it.' Allah revealed: 'Indeed, those who have believed and those who emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah - those expect the mercy of Allah, and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'
