✧ I said to Abu al-Zubayr: "Why do you not narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as so-and-so and so-and-so narrate from him?" He said: "I never separated from him since I embraced Islam, but I heard a word from him. I heard him say: 'Whoever lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.'"

✧ When it was revealed: 'And warn your nearest kindred,' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cried out on Abu Qubays: O Banu Abd Manaf, I am a warner. Quraysh came to him, and he warned them and alarmed them. They said: You claim that you are a prophet to whom revelation is sent, and that Sulayman had the wind and the mountains subjected to him, and that Musa had the sea subjected to him, and that Isa used to revive the dead? So call upon Allah to move these mountains away from us and to make the earth burst forth with rivers for us, so that we can make them into cultivated fields and plant and eat. Otherwise, call upon Allah to revive our dead for us so that we can speak to them and they speak to us. Otherwise, call upon Allah to turn this rock beneath you into gold so that we can carve from it and it can spare us the winter and summer journeys. For you claim that you are like them. While we were around him, revelation descended upon him. When it was lifted from him, he said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, He has given me what you asked. If I willed, it would be. But He gave me the choice between your entering through the gate of mercy, so that your believers would believe, and between leaving you to what you chose for yourselves, so that you would stray from the gate of mercy and no believer among you would believe. I chose the gate of mercy, so that your believers would believe. And He informed me: If He gave you that and then you disbelieved, He would punish you with a punishment with which He has punished no one in the worlds.' Then it was revealed: 'And nothing prevented Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them' until he recited three verses. And it was revealed: 'If there were a Quran by which mountains were moved, or by which the earth was split, or by which the dead were made to speak...' the verse.

But there beside him was a man of the Ansar who had been killed, and had been done to as was done to Hamzah. We felt shame and shyness that Hamzah should be shrouded in two garments while the Ansari had no shroud. So we said: For Hamzah one garment, and for the Ansari one garment.
