كُنَّا قُعُودًا بِالْأَفْنِيَةِ نَتَحَدَّثُ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَامَ عَلَيْنَا، فَقَالَ: مَا لَكُمْ وَلِمَجَالِسِ الصُّعُدَاتِ ؟ اجْتَنِبُوا مَجَالِسَ الصُّعُدَاتِ، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا جَلَسْنَا لِغَيْرِ مَا بَأْسٍ: جَلَسْنَا نَتَذَاكَرُ، وَنَتَحَدَّثُ، فَقَالَ: إِمَّا لَا فَأَدُّوا حَقَّهَا، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَا حَقُّهَا ؟ قَالَ: غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ، وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ، وَحُسْنُ الْكَلَامِ
✧ We were sitting in open areas talking, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and stood over us and said: 'What is it with you and sitting in elevated places? Avoid sitting in elevated places.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we sat for no harmful purpose; we sat to remind each other and talk.' He said: 'If you must, then give them their due.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is their due?' He said: 'Lowering the gaze, returning the greeting, and good speech.'

مَطَرَتِ السَّمَاءُ بَرَدًا، فَقَالَ لَنَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ، وَنَحْنُ غِلْمَانٌ: نَاوِلْنِي يَا أَنَسُ مِنْ ذَاكَ الْبَرَدِ، فَجَعَلَ يَأْكُلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ، فَقُلْتُ: أَلَسْتَ صَائِمًا ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، إِنَّ ذَا لَيْسَ بِطَعَامٍ وَلَا شَرَابٍ، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ بَرَكَةٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ نُطَهِّرُ بِهِ بُطُونَنَا، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: خُذْ عَنْ عَمِّكَ
✧ The sky rained hail, and Abu Talhah said to us while we were boys: 'Hand me some of that hail, O Anas.' He began eating it while fasting. I said: 'Are you not fasting?' He said: 'Indeed I am; this is neither food nor drink. It is only a blessing from the sky with which we purify our stomachs.' Anas said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, and he said: 'Take from your uncle.'

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَتَهَلَّلُ وَجْهُهُ مُسْتَبْشِرًا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّكَ لَعَلَى حَالٍ مَا رَأَيْتُكَ عَلَى مِثْلِهَا. قَالَ: وَمَا يَمْنَعُنِي ؟ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ، فَقَالَ: بَشِّرْ أُمَّتَكَ مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْكَ صَلَاةً، كَتَبَ اللهُ لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ، وَكَفَّرَ عَنْهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ سَيِّئَاتٍ، وَرَفَعَ لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ دَرَجَاتٍ، وَرَدَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ بِمِثْلِ قَوْلِهِ، وَعُرِضَتْ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ while his face was radiant, rejoicing, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you are indeed in a state unlike any I have seen you in before.' He said: 'What would prevent me? Jibril came to me and said: Give your community glad tidings: whoever sends one prayer upon you, Allah records for him ten good deeds, erases from him ten evil deeds, raises him ten degrees, and Allah returns to him the like of what he said, and it will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection.'

دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ، فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ، وَهِيَ أُمُّ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ كَانَتْ تَحْتَ مَالِكٍ أَبِي أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ، إِنِّي قَدْ عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ، فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ قَالَتْ: عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ، وَأَشَارَتْ بِكَفِّهَا، فَقُلْتُ: اصْنَعِي وَانْعَمِي، فَأَرْسَلْتُ أَنَسًا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقُلْتُ: سَارِّهِ فِي أُذُنِهِ وَادْعُهُ، فَلَمَّا أَقْبَلَ أَنَسٌ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: هَذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ جَاءَ بِخَيْرٍ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَأَرْسَلَكَ أَبُوكَ يَدْعُونَا يَا بُنَيَّ ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: اذْهَبُوا بِاسْمِ اللهِ، قَالَ: فَأَدْبَرَ أَنَسٌ يَشْتَدُّ حَتَّى أَتَى أَبَا طَلْحَةَ، فَقَالَ: هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَتَاكَ فِي النَّاسِ، قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى لَقِيتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ عَلَى مُسْتَرَاحِ الدَّرَجَةِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَاذَا صَنَعْتَ بِنَا ؟ إِنَّمَا عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِكَ الْجُوعَ، فَصَنَعْنَا لَكَ شَيْئًا تَأْكُلُهُ، قَالَ: ادْخُلْ وَأَبْشِرْ، قَالَ: فَأَخَذَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَمَعَهَا فِي الصَّحْفَةِ بِيَدِهِ، ثُمَّ أَصْلَحَهَا، فَقَالَ: هَلْ مِنْ ؟ كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي الْأُدْمَ، قَالَ: فَأَتَوْهُ بِعُكَّتِهِمْ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ، أَوْ لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ، فَقَالَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ: فَأَسْكَبَ مِنْهَا السَّمْنُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَدْخِلْ عَلَيَّ عَشَرَةً عَشَرَةً، فَأَكَلُوا كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلْفَضْلِ الَّذِي فَضَلَ: كُلُوا أَنْتُمْ وَعِيَالُكُمْ، فَأَكَلُوا وَشَبِعُوا
✧ I entered the mosque and recognized hunger in the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I went out until I came to Umm Sulaym, who was the mother of Anas b. Malik; she had been married to Malik, the father of Anas b. Malik. I said: 'O Umm Sulaym, I recognized hunger in the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; do you have anything?' She said: 'I have something,' and she gestured with her hand. I said: 'Prepare it well.' She sent Anas to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I said: 'Whisper to him in his ear and invite him.' When Anas came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Here is a man who has come with good.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Did your father send you to invite us, O my son?' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions: 'Go in the name of Allah.' Anas hurried back until he came to Abu Talhah and said: 'Here is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ coming to you with the people.' So I went out until I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the door, at the top of the step, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what have you done to us? I only recognized hunger in your face, so we prepared something for you to eat.' He said: 'Enter and rejoice.' He took it and gathered it in the bowl with his hand, then arranged it, and said: 'Is there any?' as if he meant condiment. They brought him a small skin containing something, or containing nothing, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ worked it with his hand, and ghee poured from it. Then he said: 'Let ten enter upon me at a time.' They all ate and were satisfied, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said concerning what remained: 'Eat, you and your families.' So they ate and were satisfied.

✧ The sword fell from my hand on the day of Badr because of the drowsiness that overcame us. Allah says: 'When He was covering you with drowsiness as a security from Him.'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ بِأَرْبَعَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ رَجُلًا مِنْ صَنَادِيدِ قُرَيْشٍ، فَقُذِفُوا فِي طَوِيٍّ مِنْ أَطْوَاءِ بَدْرٍ خَبِيثٍ مُخْبِثٍ، وَكَانَ إِذَا ظَهَرَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُقِيمَ بِعَرْصَتِهِمْ ثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِبَدْرٍ يَوْمَ الثَّالِثِ، أَمَرَ بِرَاحِلَتِهِ فَشُدَّ عَلَيْهَا رَحْلُهَا، ثُمَّ مَشَى وَاتَّبَعَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ، وَقَالُوا: مَا نَرَاهُ يَنْطَلِقُ إِلَّا لِيَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ، حَتَّى قَامَ عَلَى شَفَةِ الرَّكِيِّ، فَجَعَلَ يُنَادِيهِمْ بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِهِمْ: يَا فُلَانُ بْنَ فُلَانٍ، يَا فُلَانُ بْنَ فُلَانٍ، أَيَسُرُّكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَطَعْتُمُ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ؟ فَإِنَّا قَدْ وَجَدْنَا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا حَقًّا، فَهَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا ؟ قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا تُكَلِّمُ مِنْ أَجْسَادٍ لَا أَرْوَاحَ لَهَا ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: أَحْيَاهُمُ اللهُ حَتَّى أَسْمَعَهُمْ تَوْبِيخًا، وَتَصْغِيرًا، وَنِقْمَةً، وَحَسْرَةً، وَنَدَامَةً
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered on the day of Badr that twenty-four men from the leaders of Quraysh be thrown into a foul, stinking pit of the pits of Badr. When he was victorious over a people, he liked to stay in their courtyard for three nights. When it was the third day at Badr, he ordered his riding camel to be brought, and its saddle was fastened on it. Then he walked, and his companions followed him. They said: We do not think he is going except to relieve himself. Until he stood at the edge of the well, and he began calling them by their names and their fathers' names: O so-and-so son of so-and-so, O so-and-so son of so-and-so, would it please you that you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? We have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? He said: Umar b. al-Khattab said: O Messenger of Allah, why do you speak to bodies that have no souls? The Prophet ﷺ said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, you are not more able to hear what I say than they are. Qatadah said: Allah brought them to life so that He could make them hear rebuke, belittlement, vengeance, regret, and remorse.

إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَا تَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ تَصَاوِيرُ وَلَا كَلْبٌ. فَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ لِأَبِي طَلْحَةَ: مُرَّ بِنَا إِلَى عَائِشَةَ نَسْأَلْهَا عَنْ هَذَا، فَأَتَيَا عَائِشَةَ، فَسَأَلَاهَا، فَقَالَتْ: أَمَّا هَذَا فَلَا أَحْفَظُهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَكِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي مَغْزًى لَهُ، فَتَحَيَّنْتُ قَفْلَتَهُ فَكَسَوْتُ عَرْشَ الْبَيْتِ نَمَطًا، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي نَصَرَكَ وَأَعَزَّكَ وَأَكْرَمَكَ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَرَأَيْتُ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ فِي وَجْهِهِ
✧ The angels do not enter a house in which there are images or a dog. Zayd b. Khalid al-Juhani said to Abu Talhah: Let us go to A'ishah and ask her about this. So they came to A'ishah and asked her. She said: As for this, I do not remember it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a military expedition of his, and I waited for his return. I covered the canopy of the house with a patterned cloth. When he entered, I met him and took his hand, and I said: Praise be to Allah who granted you victory, honored you, and ennobled you. He looked at it, and I saw displeasure in his face.
