حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ الرِّشْكُ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، قَالَ:

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَرِيَّةً، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَ لَهُ: يَا عَلِيُّ، السَّرِيَّةَ، قَالَ عِمْرَانُ: كَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِذَا قَدِمُوا مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتُوا رِحَالَهُمْ، فَأَخْبَرُوهُ مَسِيرَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَأَصَابَ عَلِيٌّ جَارِيَةً، فَتَعَاقَدَ أَرْبَعَةٌ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ بِمَسِيرِهِمْ، فَقَامَ أَحَدُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَأَصَابَ عَلِيٌّ جَارِيَةً، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّانِي، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، صَنَعَ عَلِيٌّ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّالِثُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، صَنَعَ عَلِيٌّ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الرَّابِعُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، صَنَعَ عَلِيٌّ كَذَا وَكَذَا، قَالَ: فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُغْضَبًا، الْغَضَبُ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَقَالَ: مَا تُرِيدُونَ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ ؟ عَلِيٌّ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ، وَهُوَ وَلِيُّ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ بَعْدِي

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent out a military detachment and put Ali b. Abi Talib in command. He said to him, "O Ali, [take charge of] the detachment." Imran said: When the Muslims returned from a campaign, they would come to the Messenger of God ﷺ before going to their own lodgings and tell him of their journey. He said: Ali obtained a slave girl. Four men made a pact and told him of their journey. One of the four stood up and said, "O Messenger of God, Ali obtained a slave girl." He turned away from him. Then the second stood up and said, "O Messenger of God, Ali did such and such." He turned away from him. Then the third stood up and said, "O Messenger of God, Ali did such and such." He turned away from him. Then the fourth stood up and said, "O Messenger of God, Ali did such and such." The Messenger of God ﷺ turned to him angrily, anger visible on his face, and said, "What do you want from Ali? Ali is from me and I am from him, and he is the guardian of every believer after me."

    machine translationJaʿfar b. Sulaymān was alone in narrating it, and he is a Shīʿī, indeed extreme (ghālin) in his Shīʿism. So it is clear from all of this that the addition of the word "after me" in this hadith is not preserved (maḥfūẓ); rather, it is rejected (mardūd).
