✧ His father prepared a meal for Uthman b. Affan at Qudayd. Tharid was brought with partridge on it. He said to the people, "Eat, for it was only hunted for my sake." The people said, "This Ali forbade us to eat it." So he sent for Ali. He came while wiping leaves from his hands. Uthman said to him, "Eat it." He, meaning Ali, said, "I adjure by God any man who witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ when a bedouin came with the leg of a wild ass and the Messenger of God ﷺ returned it and said, 'Go to the people outside the sanctuary, for we are in a state of ihram,' or something like that." Some people stood up and testified. Then he said, "I adjure by God—or he said, I remind by God—any man who witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ when a bedouin came to him with ostrich eggs and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Take them to the people outside the sanctuary, for we are a people in a state of ihram.'" Some people stood up and testified. Uthman turned on his side and entered his house, and the people left the food. Then the people outside the sanctuary came and ate it.
