✧ Umar b. al-Khattab wrote to Utba b. Farqad: Peace be upon you. To proceed: Wear cloaks and wrappers, discard trousers, put on sandals and cast off boots, shoot at targets and cut the knees, leap upon horses vigorously. Keep to the Jarmi and Maaddi style, and beware of affectation and the dress of the Persians, for the Messenger of God ﷺ forbade silk except something like this—three fingers—or like this—four fingers.
