✧ I was sitting with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: 'Tell me who among the people of faith is most excellent in faith.' They said: 'O Messenger of God, the angels.' He said: 'They are so, and that is rightfully theirs. What prevents them, when God has placed them in the station He placed them in? Rather, others.' They said: 'O Messenger of God, the prophets whom God honored with His message and prophethood.' He said: 'They are so, and that is rightfully theirs. What prevents them, when God has placed them in the station He placed them in? Rather, others.' They said: 'O Messenger of God, the martyrs who were martyred with the enemies.' He said: 'They are so, and that is rightfully theirs. What prevents them, when God has honored them with martyrdom along with the prophets? Rather, others.' They said: 'Then who, O Messenger of God?' He said: 'Peoples in the loins of men who will come after me, who believe in me though they have not seen me, and attest to me though they have not seen me. They find the suspended leaf and act according to what is in it. These are the most excellent of the people of faith in faith.'

machine translationAs for the hadith of al-Minhāl b. Baḥr, from Hishām al-Dastuwāʾī, from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, from Zayd b. Aslam, from his father, from ʿUmar: it is only narrated by the trustworthy memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) from Hishām, from Yaḥyā, from Zayd b. Aslam, from ʿUmar, as a mursal report. This hadith is only known from the hadith of Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥumayd, and Muḥammad is a man from the people of Madinah who is not strong (laysa bi-qawī). Aslam, from his father, from ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, and he also narrated another hadith in which he was not corroborated.
