✧ I saw Abu Dharr in the mosque of Quba' praying, wearing a Qatari striped cloak. I greeted him, but he did not return my greeting. When he finished his prayer, he returned my greeting. I said: 'Are you Abu Dharr?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I found the climate of Madinah unhealthy, so the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered for me a small herd of camels and commanded me to drink from their milk and their urine'—then Ayyub fell silent at 'their urine'—'and I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ among a group of his companions in the shade of the mosque. When he saw me, he said: "O Abu Dharr." I said: "I am ruined, O Messenger of God." He said: "What has ruined you?" or he said: "What is that?" I said: "O Messenger of God, I am far from water and I become junub. Should I pray without wudu'?" or he said: "without purification?" He called for water for me, and a black slave girl came with a wooden bowl containing water that was sloshing, not full. I concealed myself behind the camel and performed ghusl.' He said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: "O Abu Dharr, pure earth is sufficient for you even if you do not find water for ten years, but when you find water, let it touch your skin."
