✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ, 'My people have disbelieved,' and I was informed that he had prepared an army against them. So I came to him and said, 'My people are upon Islam.' He ﷺ said, 'Is it so?' I said, 'Yes.' He said: So I followed him that night until morning, and I called the adhan for prayer when morning came. He gave me a vessel to perform ablution from, and the Prophet ﷺ placed his fingers in the vessel, and springs gushed forth. Then he said, 'Whoever of you wishes to perform ablution, let him perform ablution.' So I performed ablution and prayed. He appointed me over them and gave me their sadaqah. Then a man stood up to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'So-and-so has wronged me.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'There is no good in leadership for a Muslim man.' Then another man came and asked for sadaqah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Sadaqah is a headache in the head and a burning in the belly, and a disease.' So I gave him my two documents: the document of my leadership and my sadaqah. He ﷺ said, 'What is the matter with you?' I said, 'How can I accept them when I have heard from you what I heard?' He ﷺ said, 'It is as you heard.'
