✧ Indeed my people disbelieved, so I was told that the Prophet ﷺ had prepared an army against them. I came to him and said: Indeed my people are upon Islam. He said: 'Is that so?' I said: Yes. He said: I followed him that night until morning, and I called the adhan for prayer when morning came. He gave me a vessel from which I performed ablution. The Prophet ﷺ placed his fingers in the vessel, and water gushed forth as springs. He said: 'Whoever among you wishes to perform ablution, let him do so.' So I performed ablution and prayed, and he appointed me over them and gave me their sadaqah. Then a man stood up and went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: So-and-so has wronged me. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no good in rulership for a Muslim.' Then another man came asking for sadaqah, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Indeed sadaqah is a headache in the head and a burning in the belly — or a disease.' So I gave him my two scrolls, or the scroll of my rulership and my sadaqah. He said: 'What is the matter with you?' I said: How can I accept it when I heard from you what I heard? He said: 'It is as you heard.'
