✧ The companions of Ibn Masʿud ؓ were bitten by the cold, and they began to feel ashamed to come in their old worn-out garments and cloaks. He missed them, and it was said to him, “Their situation is such-and-such.” So Abu Abd al-Rahman came in the morning wearing a cloak, and they said, “Ibn Masʿud ؓ has come in a cloak.” Then the second day came, then the third day. When they saw him in the cloak, they came in their cloaks, and he recognized faces he had missed. He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘No one will enter Paradise who has in his heart an atom’s weight of arrogance,’ or he said, ‘a speck of arrogance.’”
