حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شَاكِرٍ ثنا عَفَّانُ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمُودٍ الْبُنَانِيُّ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

«لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ حَبَّةٌ مِنْ كِبْرٍ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي جَدِيدًا وَرَأْسِي دَهِينًا وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِي جَدِيدًا قَالَ وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عِلَاقَةَ سَوْطِهِ فَقَالَ «ذَاكَ جَمَالٌ وَاللَّهُ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ بَطِرَ الْحَقَّ وَازْدَرَى النَّاسَ»

✧ “No one enters Paradise who has in his heart a grain’s weight of pride.” A man said: “O Messenger of Allah, I like my garment to be new, my head to be oiled, and the strap of my sandal to be new” — and he mentioned other things until he mentioned the thong of his whip. He said: “That is beauty, and Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. But pride is rejecting the truth and looking down on people.”
