✧ A man came to Abu Dharr ؓ and asked him about faith. He recited: 'It is not righteousness that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah' until His saying, Exalted is He: 'Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.' The man said: 'I did not ask you about righteousness.' Abu Dharr ؓ said: 'A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about what you asked me. The Prophet ﷺ recited to him what I recited to you, and he said to him what you said to me. When he refused to be satisfied, he said to him: 'Come closer.' He came closer. He said: 'Indeed, when a believer does a good deed, it pleases him and he hopes for its reward; and when he does an evil deed, it grieves him and he fears its punishment.'
