✧ I said to my father: "O my father, what do you think about the saying of the Exalted: 'Those who are heedless of their prayer'—which of us does not become heedless? [Which of us] does not talk to himself?" He said: "It is not that; it is only wasting the time. He occupies himself until the time passes."

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿIkrimah b. Ibrāhīm narrated it with a connected chain (musnad) from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr and raised it (marfūʿ) to the Prophet ﷺ, while others narrate it from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr as a statement stopping at Saʿd (mawqūf), and that is the correct one. Likewise Ṭalḥah b. Muṣarrif, Simāk b. Ḥarb and ʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrated it from Muṣʿab b. Saʿd from his father as mawqūf, and that is the correct one.

    in المطالب العالية, p. 328
  • Ibn Rajab

machine translationIt is narrated from Saʿd as raised (marfūʿ), but the mawqūf is more sound.
