✧ The Imam Should Not Be the Mu'adhdhin

حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى، أَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ شُبَيْلِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، قَالَ:

إِنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ لِجُلَسَائِهِ: « مَنْ مُؤَذِّنُكُمْ ؟ » قَالُوا: عَبِيدُنَا وَمَوَالِينَا، قَالَ: « مَوَالِينَا وَعَبِيدُنَا، إِنَّ ذَلِكَ بِكُمْ لَنَقْصٌ كَثِيرٌ

Translation

✧ Umar ؓ said to his sitting companions: "Who is your mu'adhdhin?" They said: "Our slaves and freedmen." He said: "Our freedmen and our slaves. That is a great deficiency for you."
