✧ Take compensation for what I have done and go.' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Will you grant it to me?' He said: 'I will not do that.' He ﷺ said: 'What do you want then?' He said: 'I want to exact retaliation from you, O Prophet of God.' He ﷺ said: 'Yes.' The man said: 'Come out from among these people.' So he came out from among them and gave the man the palm branch to exact retaliation from him ﷺ. He uncovered his belly, and ʿUmar ؓ came to hold the Prophet ﷺ from behind. He said: 'You stumbled with your sandal and your teeth broke.' When the man drew near to strike the Prophet ﷺ, he threw down the palm branch, kissed his navel, and said: 'O Prophet of God, this is what I wanted, so that the tyrants after you might be subdued.' ʿUmar ؓ said: 'You are more reliable in deed than I.' Thus in the Dār al-ʿĀṣima edition and in the sources of extraction in Abū Yaʿlā (Abū Hirm). Al-Ḥāfiẓ in Taʿjīl al-Manfaʿa said about Abū Hirm: 'Thus it is in the original, and al-Ḥusaynī wrote it in his own hand, and those who followed him, without a zāy, and that is what is in the History of Ibn ʿAsākir in the handwriting of the author's son. Ibn ʿAsākir affirmed that he is Abū Hurayra al-Ḥimṣī, and he pointed out in the biography of Ṣadaqa that the correct is Abū Hurayra, and that whoever said Abū Hirm erred, and that he is unknown. God knows best.'
