✧ Ransoming captives

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو حَصِينٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ:

لَيْسَ عَلَى عَرَبِيٍّ مِلْكٌ، وَلَسْنَا بِنَازِعِينَ مِنْ يَدِ رَجُلٍ سَبْيًا أَسْلَمَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَكِنَّا نُقَوِّمُهُ خَمْسًا مِنَ الْإِبِلِ

Translation

✧ There is no ownership over an Arab, and we will not take from a man's hand a captive who has embraced Islam under him; but we will value him at five camels.
